The government has tanks, and airplanes, and warships, and a few thousand nuclear warheads. If they really want to 'take us over', your guns aren't going to a frakking thing to stop them. "Do what we say, or we'll drop a 10 megaton bomb on your town." People will do what they say.

So lock up all the men to stop mass murder... it's simple.

So now you use your delusional, paranoid thinking about your own government to support your need to have a gun and to feed your own paranoia that "the government wants to take your gun?"

    Talk about circular thinking!

They were his mothers guns, she would have been prevented from owning them too.

And it would have taken him how much longer to find a gun on the street? Even more so as if they were illegal, it would be a much more profitable underworld trade than it already is.

Actually, the guns are going the other way; to Mexico and we all know whats going on there, with guns from America. But people don't care it seems.

Your obsession with guns is ruining both your country and your neighbours.

You can hyothesise this all day long, but the proof of the pudding happens frequently in the US and is the MASACRES which frequently happen.

Part of being free is accepting the deaths of yet another 20 children, that comes with it.

    How big of you.

The dead so far from mass shooting is about the same as the number of dead from lightning. So shouls we all walk around carrying a lightning rod with fifty feet of ground wire trailing along behind us?

I've used this in an argument on one of the thousand other threads on the same topic. Should we make guns illegal, it wouldn't make guns unavailable. We've sent enough firearms across the border to equip every man, woman, and child in the US twice over. Should it become illegal in the US, the value of the illicit trade of firearms in the US would be worth more than the illiicit trade of firearms in South America. Those weapons would come back across the border the same way that drugs do now. And look how good we are at stopping that

Oh do (*)(*)(*)(*) off with this BS hyperbol, utter nonsense! The US army has is worlds most powerful and would crush you. That and you are far too apathetic.

Plus, you seem to have had all the excuses to do it thus far and have not taken it. Apparently having a communist POTUS is not enough to kick you into action.

Really? Have you looked at crime statistics in Australia versus the US?

As an elderly woman, I'll take my chance with a "home invasion" in a country without a "gun addiction" any day of the week, versus seeing so many children fall victims to that addiction and walking in ths streets wondering who is carrying a concealed weapons who may "snap" at any moment if I happen to step on his foot!

If you get struck by lightning, you're the one who's dead. If you go on a rampage with a gun, it's a bunch of other people who are dead (though also possibly you, by the end). See the difference?

And not all shootings are mass shootings, so even if you're not just making that stat up, it's not a valid comparison. You'd have to only look at 'mass' lightning strikes (whatever that would entail).

Stupid argument. Acts of nature aren't known for deliberately seeking-out victims to murder because they are accidental.

Bringing the crazy into your arguments is not helping your cause

You probably have a point about there being less gun violence if we stopped allowing people to own guns across the entire country

    Stick with that

Needless attacks using guns as weapons will not be stopped by passing more laws. Deadly attacks can never be totally stopped. That is not the answer unless you can find a way to confiscate every weapon in existence and stop all weapons from entering the Country and ban all materials needed to make a weapon/gun and ammunition. That is just not realistic.

I suspect given the current atmosphere we will need to start controlling the entrance of public places with metal detectors much as exists at airports. At schools, malls, movies, sports complexes and so on.

We can never stop the violent acts totally, but this would be a good start.

Indeed. I could put together a firearm using a linear magnetic accelerator in a couple days in my garage using materials that are virtually impossible to regulate. It's easy enough a child could do it.

I don't know of any quantifiable data to tell you how many people keep their firearms in secure locations. But acquiring a firearm illegally from trade is almost as easy as acquiring narcotics.

so, you also advocate illegal searches? Doors getting kicked in during the middle of the night....occupants dragged out into the street while their houses are ripped apart? When do we surrender our Right to Free Speech? Sounds more and more like a PO-lice State to me. To ask that everyone surrender all rights equates into another Mexico where only the government, drug cartels, and criminals own..yep, that sounds rrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal balanced ..yep, it's working there... it'll pretty much work the same way here.
