Sanders is factually putting forth a religious test, due to questioning the appointee about religion. No reasonable person could take it any other way. He is taking issue with the main stream Christian view that unless you accept Jesus as the savior, you will be condemned. Incidentally, Muslims have a similar view of "infidels". He is ignorantly violating the Constitution, and he should be at a minimum censured. Bernie Sanders is not a very bright person. He was a better choice for your side than Hillary, but his depth of intellect isn't enough to get his whole foot wet.

Bernie Sanders has just lost all of my respect. I thought he was an ok candidate but now I see I was wrong. Christians do not deserve to be treated this way. More evidence some on the left have a problem with Christians as if we are evil people in their eyes. Bernie needs to step out of politics. He is an old man and anything he was going to do he has done already. Time for him to retire.

I am not an American Grumblenuts. I did a search and everything I came up with believed he was wrong due to this article on religion. However after I came off it did strike me that if he is as he sounds, an extremist Christian, then that may not be covered by this. I doubt you would say you cannot criticise someone with ISIS's views due to religious freedom.

Well I have told you where I got it from now. I am in agreement with Bernie myself. Your press then seems overwhelmingly to have taken this stance.
again just what I read and why I said even. Surely the question is if you have a rule that makes it impossible to keep people out of public service due freedom of religion - is what this man said a genuine Christian position. In other words is Christianity itself a bigoted religion or is he rather a Christian Right, some of whom according to Chris Hedges have views very similar to extremist Islam - stoning women for adultery and not needing to take people to court because they will just be summarily executed. The Christian Right seem entrenched in your Government and Hedges believes that if you are moving towards fascism, which he believes you are, it will be the ideology of the Christian Right which will prevail.
I thought he answered claiming he was not an Islamophobe. I agree with you that Sanders was right which I think is further confirmed by his position over the only black female Professor being sacked for showing what I would have thought was Christian solidarity towards Muslims.

Well lets hope not but that is what seems to be being argued here and was what your papers seemed to be criticising him on. Like I said though it hopefully is a bit more searching than that. Is it Christian to think as he did or is that an extreme form of Christianity which does not allow for other parts of your constitution to be allowed - for instance him giving equal rights to all people regardless of their religion.

Again I am not an American so you will no doubt know more on the issues concerning your constitution and what not than me. That was just a quick first thought from me and I will say again my sympathies go with Sanders position.

Ironic since you are fallaciously applying the standard BACKWARDS!

The government cannot force anyone to BELONG to any SPECIFIC religion as a REQUIREMENT for holding office. Bernie is not imposing any such requirement whatsoever!

What Bernie is correctly objecting to is that this candidate has openly CONDEMNED 30% of all Americans for not belonging to the candidate's specific religion.

That is a DISQUALIFICATION since the position requires the candidate to serve ALL Americans equally and without prejudice or discrimination.

Having a basic working knowledge of the language is an asset when it comes to actually understanding the terms of the Constitution.

Bernie exposed the fact that the candidate is a religious bigot who refused to back down from his bigotry towards Muslims during the hearings thereby disqualifying himself from holding federal office.

The worst thing about him on the other hand is his bow before the scandal of the stupid DNC elite. You worry about the hillbillies that would marry their sisters if Trump was to tell them doin so... Don't you forget the Lollitas of Waco !

Why asking a question of which the answer is given in the quote you made right above it? Is that one of those Simpson customs or somethin?

Padre please, this is not one of those Catholic forums...
Mr Vought can shove that path to salvation right up to his ass because the US is a secular country. Period!

I'm inclined to agree. I see that entire campaign as a test where Bernie's goals went far beyond the current election. But he had to win first. As always here, the people were too cowed and deluded by all the corporate noise to fight back hard enough. Anticipating that, which I'm sure he did, he never should have run as a corporate Party candidate to begin with. Ironically though, if we held the election today, he'd win by a landslide. But Bernie goes way back and has always seen further ahead than myself, so who knows. Maybe his decisions will prove the wisest or he just screwed up. But what he definitely needs to do now is abandon the Democrats altogether and promote a "People's Party" alternative to the corporate duopoly.

Ehm ... but you understood why Sanders brought this up at least?
You know your own constitution well about freedom of religion and no religion has to have influence in governments heading?

I am atheist and out of these simple facts I still get always a deadly laugh when any US President comes with "God bless America" in his speeches! Hell ... which god please?

He didn't. Sanders, as always, posed his questions directly and carefully. Vought, on the other hand, to desperately cover his behind, immediately prefaced all his responses with "As a Christian," or the equivalent. Bernie was effectively asking "As a Candidate for federal office, where it will be your duty to treat everyone without preference or prejudice, are you going to continue promoting the firing of Muslims because YOU, AS AN INDIVIDUAL, are bigoted against them?" Yes or no? Vought never answered. He always, like Mr. Screamy Pointy above, idiotically presumed to lecture Sanders on the teachings of Christianity instead. Nobody offered Christianity a federal public office. Nobody cares. Nor should they.

He got threatened by the DNC elite who wanted Hillary being the candidate from the start. They used Bernie to make Hillary appear close to the center while she got nothing different than the republicans on certain stuff. Bernie had to be alright with that and told his supporters to back down and support the candidate of the elite by the time Hillary screwed up, instead of using the opportunity that comes once in a trillion years.

Kasich vs Bernie would have saved the planet.

Yes, he did, and it pissed me off no end. Except rather than being "alright with that", I believe he just did a potential risk/benefit miscalculation. He had succumbed. at least temporarily, to all the trumpeted, least worst fear mongering. But again, I don't know.

"Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated."

How does the bigot wish to accomplish that, with German ovens or Muslim?

"Medina is like a pair of bellows (furnace): It expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good"

Muslims that reject the Word of God, which is what Jesus represents, and reject the Holy Spirit, and replace it with the word of the slaver MoHamMad, are condemned as they condemn those that reject their communications.

See, DivineComedy just answered the question. Disqualified! Why couldn't Vought?

"Muslims {yada, yada} are condemned". Boom, done.

Well we got a user called Manda who's got many problems with Muslims. He's a nazi dude and he wants ovens opened up to muslims and Turks.

There's no historic fact regarding Jesus' existence by the way. And I report your cheeky insult to Mohammad. Thus thread is BIGOT magnet... That's fa sho dawg...

Calling someone a stupid bigot is really bigoted. This Christian is being singled out and condemned by a Socialist Bigot for what he sincerely believes to be true. If Bernie Sanders would even begin to listen, he would have heard Vought say that he believes "all humans are made in the image of God and worthy of respect." That should have ended the tirade right then and there. Bernie doesn;t believe that. The godless tend to believe "if you don't believe the way I do, I am going to label you a bigot and remove you from the rest of humanity". "I am going to condemn you myself."

The facts are, Christian believes all humans stand condemned by their own actions. Vought himself would say he was condemned by his own nature. But be the saving Grace of Christ, he was redeemed. Vought does not condemn anybody. They are condemned already. Vought appears to me to be a very humble man, being condemned by Bernie Sanders. This is what the secularists are beginning to do more and more openly. Christians, when acting appropriately to their own teachings, do not individually condemn anyone. It is not their position.

If only for that inconvenient Muslim woman being fired simply for displaying her pride in being Muslim your screed might actually have some veracity here. But she was. And Vought did assist. Obviously.

On August 30, 2001 10:35 PM I asked this question of muslim (New Member Member # 1324) for a reason:

The question was never answered, then a member pointed out where the Muslim, in another topic, asked for forgiveness for what they were about to do.

Yabberefugee was right is saying, “Christians, when acting appropriately to their own teachings, do not individually condemn anyone. It is not their position.”

Honestly I am unfamiliar with the totality of that case. I only heard Bernies words and it was that I addressed.
Are you saying a woman "displayed her pride in her faith" in a government job, and for that she was fired? Isn't that all that Vought did and he is being condemned by Sanders? There seems to be a contradiction here. Christianity seems to be the selective target.
