I was 15 years old are a friends house. His older brothers best friend had just come back from Viet Nam. He was missing his two legs and one arm and my friends brother had to carry him into the house. The first monumental moment was when Armstrong stepped off the platform which was just fascinating that they did it. Then we waited for about an hour to watch them plant the flag and then we all broke out in cheers and YEA AMERICA!! It was unbelievable the outpouring or American Pride.

You STILL don't get it. The landing and the step off the step with the relief, the we did it. The planting of the flag was when the emotions came out and the goal memorialized. To put AMERICANS on the moon within the decade. The planting of the flag represented that.
