Sure, it was a "mankind" kind of moment when he stepped onto the moon. Planting the flag and saluting it was an "America" moment. Why omit that?

Because "leftist progressive politics", that's why.

Ah, but did he plant the **UN** flag, or the **AMERICAN** flag? Seems he FORGOT to bring along the UN flag, though.

I wrote why in my post. What's the point of quoting me if you didn't read it?

The American flag is in the movie several times.

Going from mankind to America is a downgrade, America is part of mankind.

That and it seems like mankind isn't even that important, they wanted to concentrate on Armstrong, which is a good decision.

“I wanted the primary focus in that scene to be on Neil’s solitary moments on the moon — his point of view as he first exited the LEM, his time spent at Little West Crater, the memories that may have crossed his mind during his lunar EVA,”

Armstrong’s sons Rick and Mark, and First Man author James R. Hansen, in a separate statement, also backed the movie’s choices, saying it’s “a film that focuses on things you didn’t see or may not remember about Neil’s journey to the moon.”

You're just finding reasons to complain.

You didn't see the movie. You're having a strong opinion while being uneducated about the subject.

He doesn't plant the UN flag in the movie, so what's your point? You don't see him plant a flag in the movie (from what I've read), it doesn't mean it didn't happen. We all know he planted a flag. From what I read, the movie decided to concentrate on Armstrong and what we don't know, which is an incredibly better idea and probably makes for a better movie.

The film is called "First Man" not "First Nation".

The film is called "First Man", not "First Nation" or "Victory of capitalism over communism".

They obviously wanted to concentrate on Armstrong and not on the bigger picture. You are talking about another movie from that same story.

All due respect, but this is a deliberate decision by the movie makers, given the politics of the day and their aversion to the old fashioned patriotism and respect for our country that was in that iconic and historic moment.

It was a deliberate choice on their part. I, too, shall make a deliberate choice not to patronize them or give them my money.

This has nothing to do with my feelings about Neil Armstrong, and I'm sorry the movie makers decided to do what they did.

Leftists cringe at even the THOUGHT of said victory (and they don't really consider it a "victory" anyway).

What a great opportunity they had to take a mere, what, FIVE seconds out of a 2 hour movie to show American Exceptionalism....but they didn't take that opportunity.

He didn't (of course) plant the UN flag because it was not, as such, like Gosling claims, a victory for humanity, but a victory for America - otherwise he would have planted the UN flag.

Then you must think Armstrong was severely confused : "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for MANKIND."

And it doesn't matter, they went for the personal story, not the big picture. As I wrote now 3 times and will keep writing, the film is called "First Man", not "First Nation".

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for America" just doesn't sound as catchy, I'll admit, but it's basically true.

An excellent point. They could have shown the flag, no matter how briefly then focused on the plaque but noooooo....they had to take a Hollywood knee on it and give all Americans the finger.

Hehe, just better not show Mohammad's IMAGE, or 10,000 all-male Muslim marchers will take to the streets like they did in Pakistan the other day, and they'd have to cancel the movie because of all the death threats!!

Good point. They DEFEND the flag kneelers, so showing a flag SALUTER/hero would be a no no - just think what their liberal friends would say at their next Hollywood party!
    Keep posting!

BTW, I've improved the saying in your signature line: "Throw your vote away - Vote Libertarian on November 6th!"

No, seriously, I couldn't resist - no offense.
