    For sure.
I was joking about the Cuban flag being just outside of the frame (unseen.) :)

Yes, in BOTH cases leftists just don't understand how important the US flag is to many Americans.
The producers of this film were basically thinking "ok, we'll celebrate an American, but not AMERICA."

    Good article: https://www.dailywire.com/news/35314/hollywood-just-cut-flag-out-moon-landing-heres-why-ben-shapiro
...Now, the real reason that the film won’t include the planting of the American flag is that the distributors obviously fear that Chinese censors will be angry, and that foreign audiences will scorn the film. But it’s telling that the Left seems to attribute every universal sin to America, and every specific victory to humanity as a whole. Slavery: uniquely American. Racism: uniquely American. Sexism: uniquely American. Homophobia: uniquely American. Putting a man on the moon: an achievement of humanity....

So what? I'll take the man's sons word before I take it from a man who was known to be obscenely jealous of actual astronauts.

It has been explained why the flag wasn't shown. This is a film about the man, and what the public does not know about him. Everyone knows he planted the flag, this film explores his life in total, not just one iconic moment in time.

Great minds think alike - I JUST READ THAT a few minutes ago, and was thinking the same thing! I'd also glanced at it earlier in the day but didn't actually realize that Shapiro had written it. I think that's the first place I heard that China might be one reason for all this (as I wrote in a previous post.)

I assume that his descendents have some direct or at least indirect financial interest in the success of this film and/or Armstrong's image.

Why didn't Hollywood just cut the scene for China and leave it in for everyone else? Still seems to be a far Left decision IMO.

No, it was deliberate - leftists cringe at the thought of American Exceptionalism. Keep in mind that this was a victory in a war - the Cold War, and capitalism beat communism - something that no leftist can tolerate. We won, they lost (and eventually fell - the USSR.) They beat us to space, but we beat them to the moon.

Not everyone is in it for the money, but your sad assumption is duly noted.

Look, if they had common sense like that then they wouldn't be leftists in the first place.

Don't forget that the Muslim market hates us, as well, so it's not just the commies.

Because the Islamic texts themselves teach to kill us until the whole world is Islamic, under Sharia Law, such as Qur'an 8:39: "And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism, i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world ]......"

Apparently you need to study Islam a lot more.

That's cool, Ericb, but there are lots of Americans who have suffered for this country, showing great courage, and enduring great sacrifice. I cannot believe that Neil Armstrong planting the American flag on the moon and saluting it was omitted because "it's a story about an ordinary man".

I'm sorry Ericb, but I can't buy that.

Thank you for your service, Sir.

You guys have no idea about storytelling. The stepping on the moon is far more powerful than the flag. You don't go from 10 to 8 like that, you end the scene on the most powerful moment.

That and what Armstrong said is : "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." He didn't say : "on giant leap for America." Because it would have been a worst saying.

Also, from what I've read, the flag appears several times during the film.

And Chazelle wanted to concentrate on how Armstrong felt and not on an already known iconic moment. It's a good decision to go for the human element.

“I wanted the primary focus in that scene to be on Neil’s solitary moments on the moon — his point of view as he first exited the LEM, his time spent at Little West Crater, the memories that may have crossed his mind during his lunar EVA,”

Armstrong’s sons Rick and Mark, and First Man author James R. Hansen, in a separate statement, also backed the movie’s choices, saying it’s “a film that focuses on things you didn’t see or may not remember about Neil’s journey to the moon.”

You guys are offended by nothing. They are right to concentrate on Armstrong, and Armstrong was right when he said the word "mankind."

Basically the flag on the moon represented the victory of democracy/capitalism over totalitarianism/communism, so leftists don't want to celebrate that flag AT ALL.

Oh My Darwin - he SALUTED that flag!? Seriously did he do that? I'll admit that I'm not sure.
If so, then OF COURSE the leftists would want that left out!! Can't have a hero SALUTE/HONOR the flag of the Great Satan, now can we!?
