Yeah.. There are people like you who have been making the same suggestion about erasing history since at least the 1960s.
Good grief! Do you have a "hankering" for the "good old daze" when gays were in the closet and blacks were denied a decent education and access to jobs that paid living wages? Just because wealthy "whitey" was lord and master of the plantation does not mean that everyone was satisfied with being treated like second class citizens in the land of their birth.
The Founding Fathers gave slavery a 20 year grace period in the Constitution with the expectation that it would then be overturned by an amendment to the Constitution.
I am a student of American History and never heard the statement in bold font. Is that someone's modern assessment or found in the papers of some of the Founding Fathers. Lord Bless the 3/5ths clause. They still counted for something. Do ferigners know the 3/5ths clause?
Have you read, "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair? It's about factory life 40 years later. Have you given any thought to the life of a Yankee Factory worker circa 1850? Whatever you say in reply. Please answer the above. Gracias Doesn't mid 1800's wage slavery count for anything.
So were you against pulling down statutes of Hitler and Mussolini after WWII? Pulling down statutes of Hussein after the Iraw war?
Wow -- and *you* whine about white-washing history? I guess it's OK when you to white-wash history when it fits your ideology/political purposes, but not when others do it? I'm starting to see why you get so bent up over confederate statutes put up to extol confederate values.
James McPherson, "Battle Cry of Freedom" https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Cry-F...preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch History book that is considered pretty worthy. There are others too. Have you ever explored history outside the classroom? Like in a book. I was not raised or schooled to be at all sympathetic to the CSA. What sympathy I have was developed on my own. It evolved from considering those who didn't own slaves fighting for the CSA. In 1860 most identified as a citizen of their State. Their first loyalty was to their State. Ref.: Robert E. Lee and although he disagreed with succession, his first loyalty was to his State of Virginia. If it wasn't Loyalty to their State, why did all those who did not own slaves fight for that Right? What a shame the causes of the War Between The States is not taught academically, but PC and "programming".
NO title MORE equals slavery and the most horrific levels of racism than "The Democratic Party." The Civil War is just a subset of the racism of the Democratic Party. Shouldn't that title be dropped - replaced with the Progressive Party or ANYTHING but well over 120 years of "Democrat" = RACIST in the most murderous, evil and real ways.
Right. The Civil War had nothing to do about slavery. Sure. Complete hypocrisy on the white-washing history, there. It's only bad when other folk do it, OK for you.
I think they should rename Austin. Backlash across the state would near instantly move the capitol to another city in Texas. If moved to Houston or Dallas, would be nearly as bad... nearly... as having it in Austin, but not -as- bad. Because Austin does in fact celebrate its bat population, "Moonbat" would be a perfect new name. Or perhaps they could name it after the sounds their precious moonbats make under the various bridges, "REEEEEEEEEEEE!" Moonbat, Texas or REEEEEEEEEEE, Texas, which sounds better? Which would better celebrate the bats of Austin, both bat-bats and human moonbats? Then we can get about the business of renaming every city and country in the world, redesigning every flag, rewriting every anthem, removing every statue, that ever presided over slavery via conscription. No? It's only African slavery in the United States, about 1% of world-historical slavery, that matters? Mhmm. I see. Wonder who Islam will choose as its new prophet instead of slave-owning Muhammad? Oh, that's right, they probably won't do anything because THEY STILL PRACTICE SLAVERY. If snowflakes spent half the time worrying about real world slavery that is ongoing in 2018 all over the world that they spend whinging about history, we might be able to eradicate slavery for good instead of looking like precious, squealing, virtue-signaling fools.
I guess you never studied outside classroom programming and can only resort to mocking. Here are two considerations for you. 1) The 10th Amendment and the Rights of States. 2) Economic depression as the agricultural south saw the national wealth move north. Reply academically, I look forward to discussion. Reply mockingly and have the last word. The ball is in your court.
Typical from you. Pulling down statues in cities reduced to rubble by the subjects of the statues over the past decade is a very different thing than pulling down 100+ year old statues in flourishing cities... because... "feelz."
Tell that to Margaret Mitchell. Similar to Robert E. Howard, both grew up hearing grandparents and their generation telling glorious tales of the old South. I think it was Mitchell who was in a child's conundrum when she grew up a bit to learn the South lost the war. With the exception of Mark Twain pandering for a buck there is very little written of the old South by those of the South. The M.O. of the Yankee was to destroy. Destroy! Destroy! And that included the culture of gallantry and ladies fair. After the war, it was done by "Reconstruction" and those termed, "Carpetbaggers". Reconstruction did not end until 1877 with the South's acceptance of the minority elected President Hays over the Democratic Party candidate Tilden (of New York I believe). And the coercion to accept the 3 Civil War Amendments to the Constitution. Including the 14th now interpreted in ways to expand Federal powers in ways never imagined by the authors. How would we really know today how much was "myth" when there has been a concerted effort to destroy that culture by the Yankees. Common "Southern manners" seems to grant people more space and courtesy than Yankees. Think of a New Yorker in your face. There was a cultural difference beyond slavery. Consider the architecture. Moi Restore the 10th Amendment Powers not granted the Federals are reserved for the States! (paraphrase) Too Polite. They need a Yankee Lesson! Good movie of the South in 1905. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Reivers_(film) Story by William Faulkner who did write of the post war south. Also wrote "Long Hot Summer". Cold, Sassy Tree was written by a native of Georgia, Olive Burns, working from family stories. Made into a movie with Richard Widmark and Faye Dunaway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_Sassy_Tree "The Walton" TV show demonstrates Southern manners more than Yankee influences. Look for such courtesy no more. As something to be read in books regarding manners. A cultural trait gone with the wind. <fade to music> I believe the manners books not written by Jews were written by Southerners if you check.
