First Look: African American Museum Opening on National Mall

They are white only because that's the focus. No one cares about that though like they shouldn't care about a museum focused on black history and culture. We have many ethnic museums across the country, just like we have ethnic restaurants, ethnic neighborhoods, etc. It really is ok that black citizens have a museum too. If it's not a big deal for everyone to have theirs, it shouldn't be a problem for black citizens to have theirs either. Besides, Black history, especially in America is still a part of White history.

 

Your logic would work against what I think you are trying to get at. You'd have to build a Washington monument for Frederick Douglass. You would have to build a Lincoln Memorial for Martin Luther King. You would be very busy. Instead of doing all that, they built a museum.

There are thousands of museums dedicated to White people. Basically all of them that are not specifically labeled for minorities. As there are about 35,000 active museums, I'm going to hazard a guess that about 10% of them are specifically recognizing minority achievements. So let's conservatively say roughly 31,500 are built to recognize 'Whiteness'.

Coming out with a White museum would simply be redundant. One passing thought would make this obvious to anyone bored enough to consider it.

You introduce the 'only' clause and your argument falls apart. The African American history museum isn't Blacks only. In fact, if it were, how would you reconcile many many many African Americans having European genetics?

You made up this 'Blacks only' concept.

I have not been in the African American museum yet, but I think the probability is very high that White people are featured in it.

It would be just like going to the American history museum and seeing majority exhibits about White people and a few about Black people. It's a museum about Whiteness and the White experience in America - Blacks are a footnote.

History is not history in my opinion. It depends on the author and his or her biases. If history were completely objective, as I believe you are trying to argue that it is, then there would be no such thing as revision. Human beings can't compose much of anything without bias.

It's probably natural. If you are White, and the majority of your audience and customers are White, you are going to curate in a way that caters to what they would want to see. The US is White. Most people that go to museums are white by default. And by default, it's set up for a White audience - it's a White museum. I'm not sure how this would be hard to understand.

If you take issue with tax dollar funding, seperate issue entirely. Have no concern there as you did not make any logical errors with that comment.

Hint: THE REASON SO MANY MUSEUMS ARE FULL OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF WHITE PEOPLE IS BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE HAD SO MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Think about it.... White people started out living in "Stone Age" civilizations, just like Black and Asians. But, Whites and Asians advanced far beyond that. Whites gave us Greece, Rome, Western Europe, and ultimately, the Americas. Asians civilizations were very possibly the most advanced on Earth until the Renaissance!

But Black civilization remained almost entirely at primitive levels, with warring tribes living in simple villages, practicing slash-and-burn agriculture, and hunting animals for food. They captured and sold each other into slavery, where, under admittedly disgusting, horrible situations, they were broadly exposed to White civilization, and through the centuries they have advanced along with those of other races. Deny or rationalize it if you wish, those are the simple facts....

Prediction: within 200 years from now there will be only one race -- a mixture of all of the best parts of White, Black, and Asian races. And, yes, THAT will be a very good thing, indeed! And we'll have museums full of all of those accomplishments, too.
