Only to those who can't think for themselves anyways. Lol. Who changes their political views (which are usually pretty strongly held) for some poster on a message board, Foreigner or American citizen?

Most women do. Some even border on obsessive. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

I like dogs too, but I don't obsess over them; to me they're animals, end of! [IMG]

You'll see that my previous 2 posts differentiate between liking and obsession?? I don't approve of them being used as fashion accessories nor as a small-minded obligatory addition to make up the nuclear family, and that they should have a purpose - such as those you mention above: I've often posted the same justifications for them as you just have viz. a friend for lonely people in being something on which to focus their love and attention; and as guide and guard dogs, and herding dogs. Like us they need stimulation, and are not fulfilled by being pampered and fed scraps from the table thence to get overweight.

Yes, but you can love your dog and not let it get fat and stuff. Just don't feed it table scraps, only dog food with maybe a healthy snack. Besides that, I don't see why you should care if another person wants to love their dog and treat it like a member of the family. I would certainly treat any of my pets that way because that is what they are, a member of the family.

You should see how I treat my rabbit! He's a very happy and pampered bunny rabbit. :D

YOU are the one who is giving other people a hard time. Nobody is giving you a hard time over your views on animals. That is fine that you feel that way, but don't expect everyone else to feel the same way that you do about their pets.

I know I'm more observant of a few of our cats, over others.

Probably due to having helped deliver a couple of them though.

But if you had a dog (or if your wabbit went AWOL  ), and your son went out and found it in dire circumstances, which is usually in danger of drowning in dangerous waters, would you want your son to risk his life trying to save it? As to your love of animals, did you not post something once that gave me the impression that you're a huntin' and shootin' kinda gal?

I don't mean to give anyone a hard time, all I'm doing is expressing an opinion which happens to differ from the mainstream; that doesn't mean I don't have a valid viewpoint though. I differ from the mainstream on dozens of things but I'm used to that. In fact I like being different.

Just to butt in... I know plenty of huntin & shootin types what love & treat their domesticated critters like family.

In that case they can't be called 'animal lovers' then?

Well, here in the States, & as a former hunter I can attest, hunting types' care & love for animals is a big reason for hunting.

Thinning populations, & consuming the kill.

Circle of life, & all that too.

Well I couldn't do that - I couldn't kill anything: even spiders I go to great lengths to capture under a pyrex bowl and chuck them out of the window. And even when I do that, I always hope they survive the fall from eight floors up. I always console myself that being weightless they would have floated down, and lived to tell the tale! Mind you, I'm grateful to whoever it was who killed the cow that supplied the sirloin steak I had for dinner last night.

Actually I don't know how they get up here. They certainly don't use the lift because they couldn't put enough pressure on the 8 button to activate it.

Ooh that reminds me - think I'll do a rabbit stew for tonight's dinner. I haven't had one for ages. I'm looking forward to it already . . . :knifefork:

Hunters get a bad rep way too often. Ive known more than a few hunters and all were responsible caring people...to animals and people.
