Yes . . . they have. They just bought the FOX Marvel properties, like X-Men and Fantastic Four. They've been involved in the MCU movies since, what, 2015? Maybe earlier? You guys are behind the times. Disney has made the most successful and popular Marvel movies.

Technically correct, Marvel Studios made the movies.

I've heard lots of complaints, mostly from people who don't remember the originals.

Watching that video, I can say some of those are not blunders but just nitpicks. I will, however, agree that Holdo not saying anything to Poe right away was a problem I had that could've been fixed immediately.

Luke tossing his lightsaber behind him does look strange but considering him refusing to train more Jedi after the Ben incident, it makes sense. Speaking of which, him trying to kill him in his sleep didn't bother me mainly because when fans complain about it, they're talking about Luke from the OT and not current Luke. Fact of the matter is it's been 30+ years and it's foolish to think he'd be the exact same person he was back then. It also makes sense when you consider that the last time a Jedi Master sensed the dark side in a student and failed to act on it, that resulted in the near extinction of the Jedi Order last time and rise of the Empire a.k.a. Anakin turns to Darth Vader. In "The Phantom Menace," Obi-Wan and the ENTIRE Jedi council sensed there was something wrong with Anakin but he was trained anyway, and.....it ended poorly.

Also, I tend to remember that fans don't always know what they want and a lot of them in their rush to hate the movie tend to forget other things.

Hooray WhatCulture! I love that channel! But I'm into the first point and he's already full of BS. Luke dealt with murderous rage impulses in the past, so why not now, even for a few seconds? The speaker is picking one aspect of Luke's character from the original films and assuming that any variation from that supposed defining character, even for literally 10 seconds, even if the end result is still that he sticks with that defining characteristic, is somehow a mistake. That's just plain dumb. He's basically asking us to assume that someone who is mostly a peaceful person must never even for a fraction of a second feel any impulse (even if he doesn't act on it) to feel violent. So dumb.

Especially since even the original trilogy had its own things you could nitpick. I mostly liked the new ones because I found the characters more likable (younger Luke was always too whiney for my tastes), the whole "bury the past" theme and messing with expectations, and because I love the idea of a deserter Storm Trooper being a main character.

The WhatCultuure narrator also mentioned time inconsistencies with the start of TLJ, but there's also one in ESB: how long was Luke training on Dagobah in relation to how long it took Han and Co. to get to Bespin. There was no mention of time frame, only Han saying "Bespin, it's pretty far but I think we can make it."

Sidenote: CinemaSins is the absolute perfect channel for anyone who wants humorous criticism of even the best movies.

Bwahaha, I literally looked up what WC said about the original trilogy while you were writing this. I haven't seen much of CinemaSins, but if it is anything like How it Should Have Ended or WhatCulture, I'll probably love it. I'll give it a shot.

I gotta admit, Wonder Woman having an abortion would be the ultimate in liberal subject matter. You could call it, Wonder Woman: 2nd Trimester. Her arch nemesis is a pro life evangelical.

    Movie gold!

I think this is a pretty fair and good review, I agree about Black Panther. Was definitely a good movie, but there are a lot better in the Universe. It is obviously a very personal thing and everyone is going to have their favorites.

I for instance LOVE Doctor Strange and have it ranked ahead of a lot of movies most people don't. I think that one of the more agreed upon "things" though is that Black Panther is weighted WAY TOO HIGH on the spectrum on things like Rotten Tomatoes because of its "Political Story" being about Black People and Slavery

Me personally, I have Black Panther ranked at #9 (of 19) movies. But again, still a GREAT movie and I give it an 89 or 90% personally.

As for me, my two big biases are Iron Man 1 and Doctor Strange. But the list below is pretty standard (top 5/6 are shifted around) for most Marvel Nerds. (obviously arguable) :

    1 - Infinity War
    2 - Iron Man 1 - (My Bias)
    3 - Avengers 1
    4 - Thor: Ragnarok
    5 - Civil War
    6 - Winter Soldier
    7 - Doctor Strange - (My Bias)
    8 - Guardians of the Galaxy 1
    9 - Black Panther

Hilariously I agree with this, I was not sure why but the SJW "press" I saw was SERIOUSLY up in arms about Wonder Woman. I was incredibly shocked and surprised, no one on the right cared, Wonder Woman is a decidedly built character and has always been a member of DC's "Squad". Of course she was going to get a movie.

But when most on the "alt-Left" (SJW's) got SUPER PISSED I was surprised, apparently having a woman star in a movie wasn't enough, they wanted it to have the exact political message they wanted as well. I thought it was pretty stupid ... personally I thought it was an ok movie. The first 80% was good, but the end was horrible. Aeries as a bad guy was horribly done.

DC in general has a hard time IMO with their bad guys (which is funny because Marvel is accused of the same).

But if you look at how they 'made' and killed Aeries and Steppenwolf, Enchantress and even The Joker (IMO), they are HORRIBLE characters.

Out of curiosity, why? Is it truly because of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) or do you enjoy the stories/villians/heroes more?

I think DC's biggest problem is that there is such a massive difference in their heroes. Superman is a HUGE problem for DC, he is simply the "I win" button for anything.

That is also my biggest fear for what they will do with Captain Marvel in the MCU

As far as movies go, DC's main problem I think is them trying too hard to be different from what Marvel is doing. DC has a ton of characters and storylines from the comics they can use but doesn't really know what to do with them. Take Batman V. Superman for example, that movie had a mix of The Dark Knight Returns and Death of Superman involved in it, and all of that was in the 3rd act of the movie.

No, he is right. They didn't technically "fail". But those of you trying to say it was a massive success kidding yourselves as well.

The Last Jedi did however "break the mold" in that it was the first star wars movie take a big step backwards as to ticket sales and review scores.

    https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchise/Star-Wars#tab=summary

The above link is a good look at the numbers themselves, as to days 1 and 2, the movie was on pace to do as well if not better than "The Force Awakens" and then days 3-5 it takes a MASSIVE DUMP.

This was due to the reactions from the hard core fans coming out and yes, the far right people who HATED the political message being preached. I had no political dog in the fight but even I could obviously see there absolutely WAS a political message being preached.

The political stuff didn't bother me, but the following made me HATE the movie and unless the next episode changes a lot, I hate to say but I may be turned off from Star Wars forever. As you can see from the numbers, I am definitely not alone.

1 - My biggest 'thing' is the so called combat system. Yes, I am obviously a huge nerd and at the same time, I have practiced MMA for 16 years including a few years of instruction with a Katana/sword. Light sabers have no weight, coupled with The Force this would (and did) produce incredibly fast battles that even in the books were said to be often faster than a normal human could watch. The ObiWan vs Skywalker fight is (like it or not) what the battles were SUPPOSED to look like. It is more of a mental dance than a sword fight.

The Last Jedi made sabers LITERALLY have weight behind them making the duels look like normal sword fighting. It completely changed the system and makes basically the entire history of Star Wars and all of the duels taken part in it, non existent. That was my biggest problem

2 - Hated how they made the main character (don't care that it's a woman) the so called "Mary Sue" who was amazing at everything. It is my same gripe with DC and Superman, you cannot have an "I Win" button, it is boring and people will react as so, the numbers provided show a lot of people agreed.

3 - The scope of "The War" itself. The Battle of Endor and The Battle of Yavin included dozens of capital ships and several full squadrons to take down. Then all of the sudden, in the "New" Star Wars movies, the main battles include zero capital ships and only 24 fighters (first battle) and the second "battle" where Poe counterattacks was only a handful of fighters as well.

To give you the "scope" I am talking about, your typical Star Destroyer has a minimum of 70 fighters onboard and at it's height, The Empire had over 25,000 Star Destroyers.

All of that just doesn't add up, there is too much "missing" IMO and it made me feel like the entire thing is just a waste of time.

As of now, "The Rebellion" consists of one ship and like 10 people and "The First Order" consists of like 5 capital ships and no leader. Kylo is hardly yet a leader, although we will see what happens in the next movie.

If you read the books and were as big a nerd as I am, you would know that there are multiple systems/people/governments that in this case would rise up and kick the crap out of both of them

Fair enough, I can respect that.

However just to counter with my views, I think Superman WAS the problem with that movie. They had to have a bad guy that was strong enough to win a fist fight with superman, basically make the other characters useless.

The only way to balance the scales is with krypotnite (sp?) and a lot of people including myself think that is incredibly boring.

I actually was kinda surprise that I liked Afflecks batman as much as I did. I personally think the Bale movies were better, but I went into the BvsS movie expecting to HATE Affleck's batman, I think he is actually pretty darn good.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree because I'm in the camp that actually liked TLJ a lot, but I do have to comment.

Where exactly did they say lightsabers have no weight? In all the previous movies and canon before TLJ, Jedi and Sith used to swing them around as though they had some form of weight to them.

Eh, I kinda get people's complaints about Rey being "Mary Sue" but these weren't that much different than Luke in the OT, like him using a lightsaber effectively with minimal actual lightsaber training in the movies. Same with him learning to fly an X-wing just moments before the Battle of Yavin, though I did read that he was familiar with the controls because he piloted a T-16 back on Tatooine, which was made by the same company as the X-wings.

Actually, just the one in The Force Awakens featured no capital ships fighting. Rogue One and The Last Jedi had fleets going against each other, but the Empire and First Order respectively had more resources and thus a bigger advantage in terms of strength and firepower. The Rebels and Resistance never had the numbers or strength and had to rely on unconventional methods. Hell, the Battle of Yavin only had 30 Rebel fighters go against the Death Star and its full complement of fighters, no Star Destroyers strangely enough.

Not too much different from ESB, the Empire still had all its ships plus a Death Star secretly being built and the Rebels had their fleet. The First Order does have several capital ships but Kylo Ren is the "leader" as of now. Whether he's a good leader is the question.

Those systems might not necessarily want to get involved in the conflict. Also, it's been established that the First Order has a huge grip on the galaxy with the destruction of the New Republic so they control a lot of territory, again not that much different from the Empire gaining ground. If anything I picture the First Order as like a terrorist group that became way too powerful.

I don't mean this in a mocking way but lots of people have said this but won't follow through. They said the same thing about the prequels during their prime and yet still tuned in to see all 3 movies completed, regardless of their feelings on George Lucas.

----- No, they didn't. I posted the numbers that show the DRASTIC drop off that happened right after 7 came out. The Audience gave 7 a try and was willing to see 8, but a few days after 8 came out .... in tanked. Badly.

The numbers show that the last Star Wars movie was a HUGE drop from the last, something that had never happened before.

I just think it's funny that adults care so much about comic book movies, let alone get worked up over what a studio does with the characters. So they're not making the kind of movies you wish they would. The solution? Don't watch. Don't throw money at them. Freedom of choice.

It's just a shame how intellectual property laws work, isn't it? Whoever pays the big bucks gets the legal rights to use those characters, and no one who might want to do things differently can legally do so in film or any other medium.

I just looked at the lightsaber battles and it doesn't look terribly different from the previous ones. If you're referring to how folks like Rey or Finn were just kinda swinging them around, well Finn doesn't know how to use a lightsaber so he's naturally gonna be awkward with it. Rey, when fighting Kylo Ren in Episode 7, was just fighting defensively in a clumsy way compared to Kylo Ren who was on offense 90% of that fight. After being shot with a very powerful gun in his side, mind you.

True, he never beat Vader in ESB but did in ROTJ, and that's because he had some kind of training, albeit offscreen. Come of think of that, the only on-screen training Luke had with a lightsaber was in ANH when he was practicing with that probe on the Millennium Falcon.

In Rogue One, the Empire's fleet at the end battle was just 2 Star Destroyers and the shield generator with a full squadron of TIEs while the Rebel fleet was almost everything they had. The Battle of Yavin was nowhere near even, it was only 30 Rebel ships vs. the entire might of the Empire's Death Star plus all their fighters and Vader himself. Only 3 fighters survived and if Han hadn't shown up at the last second Luke would be dead and so would the rest of the Rebellion.

Starkiller Base was more or less the same, a handful of Rebel fighters vs. all the might of the First Order, but no Star Destroyers or other support craft in either battle. Realistically, in both battles the Rebels should've been curb stomped to oblivion.

The First Order losing their biggest weapon was indeed a huge blow but that doesn't mean they'd be any less of a threat, considering the sheer number of resources and ships at their command, case and point their main fleet throughout most of Episode 8. Also, they're all over the galaxy by this point and are the ruling government party with no Republic. As for Mandalore, they would fight back but there's no mention of what Mandalore's been up to since the end of ROTJ.

A huge drop from the last? Same thing happened with Episode 2 in relation to Episode 1, in fact the 2nd movie in each respective trilogy has made less than the first movie. Also, despite the 67% drop from weekend one, the percent changes is pretty par for the course for every almost other SW movie.
