What? People will think twice before assaulting others?

12 million CCW's and you were able to find 1 story. Why aren't there thousand and thousand of these stories? One anecdote hardly makes your point. Nice try. Do the research and find out exactly how often this happens. You will find how rare this is.

Because that is their move. Take one or very few incidents and make it an indictment of the whole culture. Its not really about safety and its not about control. Its about bending the knee to your moral betters.

Stories of CCW holders like this are much more common than the one that you cited. Here is a very recent story.

    http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/36305746-story

DETROIT - Another robbery victim fights back after he's targeted at a Detroit bus stop. The 23-year-old had officially become a Concealed Pistol License holder a couple of weeks ago and after what happened Sunday night - it was just in time.

Tremain, who doesn't want to be identified because his family fears retaliation, says his brother had just finished work and was waiting for the bus at Schaefer and West Outer Drive on the west side when three teens confronted him.

One pulled out a gun and demanded his money.
"They threatened him and told him if he moved they were going to blow him which is a term for I'm going to kill or shoot you if you move," Tremaine said. "And that's what ended up happening."
One of the suspects reached into the victim's pocket and stole $220. The trio became excited about the money they just nabbed and became distracted - at that moment the CPL holder pulled out his gun and fired.

He hit the16-year-old in the chest and the 17-year-old in the leg. The 19-year-old took off running.

"We are glad that he didn't lose his life and he protected himself," said Tremaine. "He was in fear of his life he didn't know what to do he didn't know this was going to happen to him."

The 23-year-old CPL holder called Detroit police. FOX 2 learned the two wounded suspects went to find medical help at Sinai Grace Hospital across the street from the scene. They told the ER they were walking down the street when they were held up and shot.

But investigators put it together and realized they had their suspects. One of the teens eventually confessed to this crime and others and further evidence was found on their Facebook pages.

Tremain, who is also a CPL holder, believes this is a perfect example of why he and his brother have no choice but to carry in a city that is plagued by this sort of crime.

Another successful defensive use of a firearm by a licensed concealed carry gentleman.

Ruben Kendrick had just stepped out of the bathroom of a Citizens Bank in Warren when he was confronted with a bank robber pointing a gun in his face.

Moments later, Kendrick, 60, was able to draw a pistol of his own – and he emptied the gun as the suspect tried to flee, authorities said.

New details emerged in Monday’s bank heist that ended with the alleged robber, Henry Mann, 43, of Ypsilanti, bloodied and on the ground outside. He had been shot by Kendrick, a customer, before collapsing with $11,000 in cash and a Colt Mark IV pistol.

Mann was taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries. Kendrick was uninjured.

“The good guy won out over the bad guy,” said Warren’s mayor, Jim Fouts. Kendrick could not be reached for comment.

The robbery took place on Monday afternoon, at the bank near 9 Mile and Van Dyke.

When Mann walked in, he did not make clear that he was robbing the bank immediately – in fact, he asked a teller how he could set up a “direct deposit,” according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI in federal court.

But Mann was later found to be wearing tape on his fingertips, in an apparent attempt to conceal his fingerprints, the criminal complaint said. He also has a violent criminal history, having been convicted of second-degree murder and assault/bodily harm less than murder in 1989.

The teller asked him to have a seat. But instead of waiting, Mann took out a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at her, according to the complaint.

I could post these all day long.....

    http://www.walb.com/story/29575061/veteran-did-what-he-had-to-do-shooting-armed-robber

    SYCAMORE, GA (WALB) -

An Army veteran speaks, out after firing three shots at an armed robber in Sycamore. The store clerk says Don Rogers may have saved his life.

Investigators left the gas station Friday afternoon, with glass was shattered earlier from Rogers' shots. It's damage the clerk would take any day if it means his life was saved.

Today has not been the day Don Rogers was expecting. "I wish the day could've went by without this happening," said Rogers. "I just did what I had to do"

This Vietnam veteran was in this Sycamore gas station getting change for a 20 when his day took a bizarre turn. "I heard somebody say "put the money in the bag". So I looked up and I seen this gentleman holding a pistol on the clerk," said Rogers.

Fear quickly came over Rogers, but he knew what he had to do. The gun-carrying veteran pulled his weapon on the robber. "And when I did, he looked over at me and turned my way and I fired a shot. And he grabbed his side and then I fired two more shots before he got out the door," said Rogers.

Two of the shots hit 18-year old Devin Burton. Burton got into a car driven by, 17-year old Marleigh Agner, and the couple took off down Denham Road, but Burton's condition worsened so they stopped to call 911.

Assisting residents had no idea what happened just three miles away. "Then I saw them take the driver of the car in handcuffs to the police car and they took the passenger who had been shot, placed him in an ambulance and left," said Leon Pirkle.

Rogers and the clerk also called 911 and responding deputies quickly pieced together the crime and the call from Denham Road.

The clerk and customer are both thankful to be alive and uninjured. "Well, I was hoping nothing like this would ever happen, but I was glad I had my weapon with me," Rogers said.

A weapon Rogers says every legal gun owner should have on them, as well.

"People are just sick of people running them up," said Turner Co. Sheriff Andy Hester. "And robbing, and stealing, and pillaging, and people are tired of it. These people that'll go out and do this kind of stuff need to realize- it ain't always gonna fare to their favor, just because they're a predator."

Marleigh Agner is in jail charged with party to a crime of armed robbery. At last check, Burton is in critical condition in a Macon hospital.

He was shot in the chest. That means this was a face-to-face confrontation. Someone got out of their seat. Who? This is the hinge-point in deciding who to defend here.

If someone got out of their seat and assaulted me in a movie theater, I'd defend myself. He assaulted the wrong guy and got shot for it. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. You don't toss your popcorn in anger, without intention to escalate beyond there, without intentionally trying to solicit an angry reaction. Behind that smoke-screen of popcorn was probably going to be a much larger physical attack. At least, I'd have thought so. I'd have defended myself if that was the situation, too.

More Americans are armed than you think. And its pretty rare.

    - - - Updated - - -

No, he threw a bag of popcorn in the mans face. Many would say that is a distraction to further advance and continue the assault.
Remember, you are talking about a 70+ year old man vs a 30 something.

I read the article and the one thing that stands out in the stand your ground law is that “a defendant must be able to show that he had a ‘reasonable belief’ in a threat before using deadly force, not that the threat actually existed.”
This is very similar to sexual harassment laws where it is the perception or belief of the person filing the claim, whether or not it is true.

So a 70 year old man gets popcorn thrown in his face by a 30 something year old man, put yourself in his shoes, would you feel threatened?

Logical fallacy of your argument: 1 idiot makes terrible decision, all people will make the same decision.

this is old news and has no relevance to the second amendment

the main was a RETIRED POLICE captain who would have been able to carry no matter what the state law was
people like you claimed that if honest citizens could CCW, there would be all kinds of road rage shootings etc

guess what it didn't happen. so why are you gun restrictionists trying to pretend a shooting involving a retired cop can be used to smear millions of honest gun bearing citizens?

The shooting was justified. Popcorn guy got out of his seat and initiated violence against the shooter. If I was him, I'd have drawn on him too. My initial response to this thread was correct: bullies should be careful who they pick on these days.

Its not subjective. Its a case by case issue.

    - - - Updated - - -

Being a "retired" officer gives you no more rights than anyone else. At that point he was just a citizen.

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes, its a terrible decision to throw anything in anothers face.

Seems I remember the shooter being a retired cop with a superiority complex. Could be wrong.

Retired police officers have the right to carry concealed across the United States per federal law. They do have more privileges than we do.
