Romney has no core beliefs, other than his own self-righteousness; and that's about all we can expect to see from him for the next six years.
Romney might be your typical moderate repub, and you may be a right-winger, but I don't doubt that you both love your country and have its best interests at heart. I don't have the same opinion about trump. I have known him for over 30 years and nothing in his character or actions would indicate that he would ever put any person or country above his personal interests. Even more, I suspect that he nurses a grudge against the banks and companies that denied him loans and ridiculed his vainglorious buffoonery over the years. He often seems to be purposely trying to hurt the US with his capricious, petulant dictates.
funny, Romney was Republican top Republic pick, now they want to claim he is a democrat.... my how the right has changed
Whos "they"? I didn't select him for the candidate and I am here saying hes a weak republican. And before you call me a Trumper, I think Trump too is a democrat deep down.
Trump is a Republican through and through and I never commented on you or your choice of candidate, your protesting something I never said about you
he showed that when he showed his support for Trump, to late now from him to act better then Trump, my guess is Romney plans to run for President in 2020
he's just protecting his own arse, needs to side with infidels on the left to remain relevant... most of washington 'hates' trump for exposing their uselessness and many others will bash him eventually for the same reason, not anything else although they will disguise it as treason so the 'blind faith followers' won't realize the truth...
Fine, but I said nothing of the sort. I made no reference to Trump, whatsoever. Anything you inferred is completely in your head.
He is? Is that why for 20 years he wasn't? Is that why for the past 20 years hes switched back and forth between republican and democrat registrations?
Excuse me? Romney hs a true Republican and successful businessman and Governor. He got along with the legislature because this was the intelligent thing to do, instead of Trump's denigrating and insulting attitude which will get him nowhere. Romney portrayed Trump as he is whether you believe it or not. Trump is not a stealth Republican.
This whole thread is about Romney standing up to Trump. If I can't infer that you were posting in some way to that extent, then you were off topic.
So a "true" republican capitulates to democrats? When was the last time we saw democrats capitulating to republicans? If they don't, are they not "true" democrats? Romney was a governor in a state where he had zero power to do anything because the democrats have held a super majority in MA for decades.
Romney is a class act. Trump is a bully. I don't think either style is bad. Sometimes you need one or the other personality types to win the election and get things done. I am afraid it takes a bully to take on the current dems however.
So, when all the folks try to deny Trump when he crashes and burns, they are JUST trying to stay relevant? Bookmarked.
A true Republican, in my view, is a person who has Republican ideals and does not fall in line with the party of Trump. This was in response to a remark that Romney is a "stealth" Democrat. A smart Governor works closely with the legislature, be they Republican or Democrat, in order to get things done. "Capitulates" is hardly the word to describe Senator Romney. This should not be a "we" against "them" and it works much better when it is "us". Romney had power. He just did not flaunt it like the buffoon in the Whitehouse.
The issue is that Romney did nothing but criticize President Trump - he mentioned a number of policy differences he has with the President, but I did not once read in his editorial that he wanted to work with or compromise with President Trump on any of those issues.
I don't understand why he would talk about compromise. Trump never compromises about anything and just talks about the subject. Romney will simply wait and see.
Thread is accusing Romney of being a stealth democrat and how he's standing up to someone in his party. It's completely irrelevant that it's Trump. It could be any Republican. The same as if any democrat stood up to another democrat. I'd be pleased to see that as well.
I don't think he's a stealth democrat but he has a republican that's is in good standing with the oligarchy that runs this country and that club is on both sides of the isle.
Nobody has any love for Romney. Not only from a policy point of view do I disagree with him and his robotic personality not to mention his religion, but worst of all his sense of entitlement for power. His father ran for President and he's rich. When he ran for President in 2012, he was 'shell shocked' that he lost. He was reluctant to concede on election night. That was because of not only his belief (although not objectionable) that Obama was very beatable, but because of his sense of entitlement. He is like Drumpf in some respects. No, Democrats see him more as a useful idiot rather than an example of all that is good in politics.
Had to laugh at this comment on Twitter. Romney reminds me of what Gene McCarthy once told me about a fair weather political ally: “He’s the type of person who in a war, would go out on the battlefield and shoot our own wounded.”
