Why do you call an army protecting Christians and other civilians from terrorists fiends? Is it just Christians you hate or all Syrians?

As for the base, it didn't have cover. Assad never expected a false flag chemical attack, and the US to attack his forces. Now he knows better, so Russia will supply them with missile defenses.

The s 400's are in Russia as far as I know.

The S 300's are radar guided. Cruise flies below radar. It is Nap technology.

To counter Soviet AA superiority, we developed a way of flying called Nap of the Earth.
We fly at 50 feet, This is below the radar shadow from the curvature of the earth.

During the Iraq war, Tomahawks were reported to have been seen flying through the streets, turning at junctions etc
Essentially the missile uses a GPs like in your car.

At this height, it doesn't get detected by RADAR.

    Here's some captured on film.

I have news for you, I know Syrians that moved back before the US decided to destroy the country, because life was so lovely under Assad. So tell me, how lovely is life where you live... or do you just work from day to day to survive?

    From Jeanette's link:

    "
Yes, the insane American/Israeli neoconservatives are this determined to exercise hegemony over the world.

Yes, Washington is sufficiently criminally insane to risk the destruction of life on earth based on the supposition that Washington’s offense will work perfectly and Russia and China’s capabilities will be so degraded that no retaliatory response will occur.

One might hope that the American and Western populations would be outraged that Washington is so power-crazed that Washington is subjecting all life to such risks. But there is no sign of an anti-war movement. The Western leftwing has degenerated into Identity Politics in which the only threat comes from white heterosexual males who are portrayed as misogynists, racists, and homophopes. The Western leftwing is no longer war-conscious. Indeed, the leftwing has become diverted into such silly irrelevancies as transgender rights to toilets of their choice. The impotence of the Western left is so overwhelming that the left might as well not exist.
Yes, the insane American/Israeli neoconservatives are this determined to exercise hegemony over the world...."

Roberts has had some fairly "out there" opinions in the past, though.

@MrFirst and you were right about the S-400s' capabilities. They can't do nothing to low altitude cruising missiles. I was wrong. And I think the US did not just hit Assad's airport but Russia as well, that's how the message supposed to be read.

On the other hand, Turks hit the US by hitting their terrorist allies in Sinjar (Iraq) and Karachuk (Syria) and that's exactly how the message we delivered supposed to be read :)

    Why would Norway want missiles?

Why would any country want to invade Norway?

Norway is turning itself into a target.

So the US wants to prevent one tin-pot country from developing its own nuclear arsenal yet at the same time supplies another tin-pot country with a ready-made one? Double standards, or what!

    This is not entirely true.
If we look at the top video of cruise missiles in flight, you will see they are easily spotted from above.

Russian AA systems are all linked. Their RADARs all talk to each other.
So an AWACs plane , looking down from above, can detect a cruise missile and that information is networked out to all the other planes and RADAR systems.

Unlike NATO forces the Russians don't do a lot of AWACS, all their planes work as AWACs, all their RADAR is networked. Not just AWACS,
Each plane in the sky is operating as a mini awacs at all times. It can target an enemy and even a friendly helicopter can use that lock to fire it's own missiles.

So their ability to defend against cruise missiles of this nature is in no small way tied to the level of vigilance they are willing to maintain. Aerial patrolling.

I'm a Brit mate. No one buys our AA systems at all. They suck. We have to give them away just like the Yanks do.

No one me buys S400's because they aren't for sale. Likewise US stealth bombers aren't for sale. Nor are our nuclear bombs. And so on.

Many people buy the S300 however. Best selling system in it's class.

    For their women.
Norway has a lot of natural resources. Germany invaded it to get them for it's war machine last time.
Also it's technology and industry. Norway was the centre of Nazi atom bomb development.

It's also got ports on the Baltic, probably it's good place to control entrance to the entire Baltic sea from. Sort like a Baltic Gibralatar.

In the end too many battles have been lost to Soviet AA systems in the past not to take them 100% seriously.
    Korea, Vietnam. Israel. Egypt. Serbia.
We know what they can do Litwin, we have been arse raped by them in the past.

Russians use S 400 as a diplomatic bargaining chip. Because those systems will greatly amplify the difficulty of any attack vs the west's preferred method. Air power.

I read them Litwin, but many of the times, the language barrier between us makes them undecipherable to me. I apologise to you for that.

I sort of just assume they translate to "Russia sucks...blah blah blah" by default.

    This topic?
I know the Russians sold NASA all their rocket engines from the thousands of ICBM's they have decommissioned.
Those suckers work, but they were made in the 50's and 60's and there was a finite supply of them.
So your news stories seem credible to me.
Presumable this is a new batch of engines, which will then come with all the teething problems associated with that.

Rocket science? Well you know, it's not easy. It's rocket science.
You don't have to be a brain surgeon to work that out.

All new developments will suck for a while. Jets, tanks, cars, computers, mobile phones.. all of them.
Par for the course. You should expect failures, Ours all failed like that too.

NASA is working on it's own launch systems, so it won't be dependent on Russian launches for much longer.
Take note however, they will have their fair share of problems with it also. Russians will be laughing at their soon to be had failures just as hard as the Yanks have been laughing at North Korea's.

But it's their turn to bring out a new one next. So many laughs will be enjoyed by all, at their expense.

Cruise missiles are "cruising" and adjust their route to the "terrain" while they keep their low altitude on a pre-set course. Help me to understand how s-400s hit them while they zigzag right above the trees.

They can very easily be converted to attack-missile launchers with warheads of WMD.

    From above, goody.

An owl can snatch a bird from between the blades of grass because it strikes from above.

Just as the mouse is difficult to spot by the cat amongst the grasses, ground radar has trouble with Cruise missiles.
    Aerial radar does not.

These are integrated defence systems. They work together with each other. Planes talk to the ground . Telemetry is transmitted between allied units.

I'll see if I can find some examples of missiles zig zagging so that you can see exactly how manouverable these things are. It's not like a plane. Turning circle is miniscule.

I'm looking for a video of an anti missile test to demonstrate this to you visually.

To test this missile with a range of 500 miles or whatever, they didn't actually fire it 500 miles and then go and recover it.
They just got it fly around in circles until it was almost out of fuel and then do the test. So look out for the spiralling vapour trails.

This one doesn't really 100% show off what I am trying to explain but it was too beautiful not to share.

Point being, they change direction on a dime at maximum speed, they can pretty much stop dead and then spin in the same spot if they like, before going on again.

Here's an interesting picture from Norway.
Some accredit this as being UFO, others a Russian missile test.
That is a very precise manoeuvre if it is. Very neat.

The Daily Mail (Daily Fail) contends that it is a Bulava missile test. A nuke that dodges anti missiles.
