This is a repeat of the presidential election where Cross Check and registration stunts decided an election race. Looks like another cheated election.

    They vastly preferred Trump to Hillary because Trump supported mostly Republican policies and currently Republicans and Trump are about 90% in line on issues. Also if Hillary took office she would have likely nominated liberal supreme court justices making it liberal for the next generation. That is why Reince Priebus the head of the RNC personally helped Trump in his debate prep against Hillary and is now part of his top counsel.

    I think they preferred jeb bush and settled for trump after he won the nomination.

    Actually I believe the rnc and republican leaders in congress have no agenda or goals except to remain in power

    And they did not need the white house to do that

    So they see trump as a liability rather than an asset

    The problem with just remaining in power is that they had no power. With a democratic president they could do virtually nothing as he turned the Supreme Court liberal able to legislate from the bench and strike down anything they do. If they viewed Trump as a liability they wouldn't be voting more than 90% of his proposals. They saw that unlike them he had popular support and many of them legitimately are Trump supporters like most Republicans.

    Maybe so many people are anti-status quo that the media declaring a candidate is winning by the polls is a political kiss of death?
