Harry has made it very clear that his decision to leave the UK was based not wanting to subject his family to the same negative press interference his mother had to endure. Negative press which began when he chose to marry a divorced American of mixed race. The tabloid press in the UK is toxic and I don't blame him for wanting to get away from it. After all it was the same toxic press that was at least partially responsible for the death of his mother. Unfortunately I don't think he's going to find America any less toxic as shown by the numerous posters attacking his wife in this thread and others. Support for the nuclear family seems conditional from the very people who claim to support it.

Whether America is toxic or not, they shouldn't have come here. A Commonwealth country makes more sense. Apparently we disagree in Meghan's culpability in all this, which is fine, but I very much would prefer that she and Harry be the UK's problem and not ours.
I agree, I think that's why they chose Canada first. However, according to Harry, at around the time their security was withdrawn the Daily Mail printed their address in Toronto which left them feeling vulnerable. They were then offered free accommodation and protection in California so they took it. Their subsequent decision to buy their own place in Beverly Hills is probably based on Meghan wanting to pursue her acting career at some point. If I were Harry I'd have chosen New Zealand.

Most people outside America didn't have a clue who she was. Maybe he just fell in love with Meghan and her skin colour played no part in his decision to marry her.

I have only seen the freebie small bites on TV but I have read the entire transcript....every word. I conclude that the only thing they wanted to achieve out of it was to encourage public sympathy for themselves, put schit of Harry's Family, and perhaps it was even an attempt to extort the Palace.
