I'm a big fan of states' rights, but good luck with that one. Individuals have rights also.

and you none, then. You have already forfeited your Right to own and converted to a government privilege. No one should ever confer their right to chose. It is your Individual Right to own a firearm. I guess how you choose to exercise your Right is up to you. However, you cannot tell someone else they must do it your way. That Right does not exist.

sound like a stupid law, no one should have to register a gun.... period
everyone should be able to own guns.. period

everyone has the right to own a gun, it's not a privilege... it's a right

I guess this law was designed to keep guns out of Americans hands that have lost the privilege to own a gun.... oh wait, it's a right, not a privilege

when we let the gov take guns from the least among us, we opened this door, we should of been fighting for the least to also have the right too, cause by not doing so, some in gov now think owning a gun is a privilege rather than a right

now the gov is using laws to make sure guns do not fall into the hands of these people that lost the privilege to own a gun.. nice... not

background check... NOT NEEDED if it's a right all Americans have

license to carry... NOT NEEDED if it's a right all Americans have

only American citizens or Permanent Residents of the USA can own a firearm in the USA

how the (*)(*)(*)(*) are we supposed to know who they are without a background check?

how the (*)(*)(*)(*) we supposed to know they aren't a fugitive from the law...or broke out of prison?

a birth certificate or proof of citizenship would be plenty, what does a background check prove, that someones American, or is it a list of Americans that don't have the PRIVILEGE to own a gun? if it's really a RIGHT and not a PRIVILEGE, then a background check is not needed, just proof of citizenship

birth certificate doesn't mean you haven't escaped from prison, have a warrant for you arrest, etc..

no background check is a criminal's dream come true.

A Texas driver's license works in Texas and our violent crime is no worse than similar high gun restriction states. Universal Background Checks is a micromanaging government's dream come true. It's a backdoor gun registration.

New York has two houses of the legislature, the Senate and the Asembly.

    they all support handgun permits.

its been this way for decades.

if your friend doesn't like it, maybe he should move.

simply requiring a background check for all gun purchases, has nothing to do with registration.

without background checks, guys who escape prison or are wanted on a warrant for murder, can buy a gun.

    this is unacceptable.

The security and domestic tranquility of that free State is the responsiblity of the State militias.

Why any need for the Expense of a war on crime?

I believe this may have some application even in State venues with our Constitutional form of limited government.

Texas is up there. It has something like the 15th-highest violent crime rate.

But that probably misses the point. Studies have shown that widespread availability of guns is associated with more violent crime, more successful killings/suicides, etc. That is completely logical -- there will be fewer successful suicides/murders if the only weapon available to everyone is baseball bats. Such an obvious relationship really ought to be a non-controversial.

But there are other, bigger factors that drive violent crime: high poverty rates, low education rates, etc. Gun ownership has an effect, but it's not even close to being the biggest effect.

Which is why the top 10 states for violent crime don't seem to bear much relationship to the relative strictness/laxness of gun laws.

The top 10 states for violent crime:
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/10/05/most-dangerous-states/2925679/

    1. Tennessee
    2. Nevada
    3. Alaska
    4. New Mexico
    5. South Carolina
    6. Delaware
    7. Louisiana
    8. Florida
    9. Maryland
    10. Oklahoma

Read the story, and you'll see that the main explanation for each state's ranking is slightly different. In Tennessee, it's a high poverty and low educational attainment; In Nevada, it's mostly the tourists in Vegas and Reno. In Alaska, it seems to be something about the frontier lifestyle. For New Mexico, it's poverty again.

Gun laws can make this problem better or worse, but aren't the main factor in violent crime rates.

The People of NY elect our Legislators.

We have required permits for handguns, for decades.

Clearly the people of the state have no problem with this.

    Its called States Rights.

Individual rights are superior. New York's gun laws violate those. But nobody seems to care.
