    My brother goes there on business trips on occasion - related to manufacture in SA of military stuff.

    If a female coworker goes with him, she has to stay at a different hotel, has to travel separately, wear head covering, and basically suffer the disrespect they see as due a female in the workplace. Also, the factory building there doesn't have any women's bathrooms.

    The female coworker who has gone in the past refuses to do so. She served in the US military in the ME on active duty. She's fully experienced with the what and how of conforming to their rules, and just sees it as over the top compared to other nations where she has served.


    Basically, we're propping up that unbelievably, in fact, criminally repressive regime as a US military asset in the ME. And, the result is the establishment of America as a nation fully willing to compromise any principle we ever thought we have when it's handy for us.

    We did this in Egypt, too. The result was that after their revolution, those there saw every American idea with deep suspicion as belonging to a nation that supported the previous regime. And, that was a very real contribution to the political mess that followed through today.
