They American ship was in international waters. They are allowed to be there legally. They aren't bothering anyone by just existing and occupying space. Iran has a history of harassing ships of all kinds from all different countries. They boarded a Chinese ship last week and then disembarked as soon as they found out it was a Chinese ship. China won't mess around with them. They need to understand that we won't mess with them either. I hope that some idiot challenges the resolve of the Navy. It will be a clear message not to harass our ships.

That is wrong/false on all points. First, Trump had explicitly warned that Iran would be immediately attacked with devastating force if any American lives or assets were struck by Iran in response to the assassination of General Soleimani. Second, your own military expected to suffer significant losses and casualties when they learned the attack was coming, but did nothing to try to either preempt or attack the source of fire. Finally, there are dozens of US servicemen, including some who have not recovered, who will dispute your characterization of their injuries.

Who is anyone here kidding? Trump, like much of the rest of his cult followers, supposedly cannot abide a young Iranian sailor on a speedboat waving his finger towards US vessels, but suddenly are tolerant of a barrage of ballistic missiles leveling a good part of a major US military base? If the US really wanted to start a war with Iran, it has known Iran's address all along during various US administrations under whose watch each, the US has alleged (with varying degrees of credibility) that Iran has been responsible for deaths of US servicemen (albeit servicemen who died because they were sent to places they didn't belong to in the first place). Otherwise, while the bellicose talk and actions by the US might raise the chances of an accidental war, no one in their right mind with any clue of what war would entail for both sides, would knowingly start such a war. We are no longer even in the circa 2003 period, when the motto in the Pentagon was "everyone wants to go to Baghdad, but only real men want to go to Tehran." Only the deranged now would entertain the thought.

 

Anyone who knows the applicable international legal standards and the real facts relevant to most of these incidents, understands that, while it might be annoying to Americans, there is nothing illegal about Iranian speedboats operating in those waters in close proximity to US vessels. Vessels that are very close to Iran and very far from the US. Taunting and irritating Americans isn't the standard for when force can be used. It is merely the standard that a bully like the US would like to impose on its adversaries, but to succeed, that bully needs to be one willing to take a poke in the eye and find its face smashed. Not a bully that thinks it can get away bullying Iran by just raising the level of the noise and propaganda.

Your sources are basically the same folks who claimed Iran had 'hit sand' in the missile strike against the Al Asad airbase until satellite imagery showed the facts. I am not even sure the tweet from the 'unnamed defense official" quoted in a tweet by a FOX reporter on 22 April, is even available any more, as it seemed to have been taken out. Even FOX (the leader in such nonsense) hasn't run with this line since the US government has basically conceded the facts.

While the US looks desperate to change the topic, with Trump tweeting 'threats' about a naval incident from several days ago, and others talking about everything but the real message from Iran's successful launch of a military satellite into space, this was a pretty notable move by Iran's revolutionary guards. The fact that it was done without the US being able to pick up what was being done, that it used a space launcher the US didn't even know Iran had developed, that it used a site that was never previously used, that it involved a multi-function military satellite and not one of the mini-satellites Iran had previously successfully put into orbit, showing the capability of this SLV to carry a large payload, and the fact that this was all done during the era of "maximum pressure" on Iran and during the Covid-19 pandemic, simply shows a lot more than many people want to acknowledge. So much for the US imagining that by infiltrating Iran's civilian space agency and sabotaging some of its systems, it has made a real dent in Iran's capabilities. I just hope the US is equally clueless about Iran's nuclear program and that Iran hasn't been as idiotic as I have suspected, genuinely letting its enemies have free reign to comb through everything Iran has done and developed on that front.
