Here's a quote from Lavrov's speech at the Valdai Discussion Club:

"In the areas supervised by the US - east of the Euphrates and all the way to Syria’s state borders - they (US) create authorities in such a way that they have no ties with Damascus providing them with assistance in various forms. All that can be a very serious problem from the point of view of compliance with the UN Security Council’s demands on ensuring Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," he explained.

Here is something from Ermine Erdogan which confirms everyone's suspicions that Turkey wants to conduct a mass ethnic cleansing campaign in Afrin:

"After Operation Olive Branch, nearly 500,000 people (refugees) are expected to return to Afrin," she noted.

The problem is that the majority of refugees in Turkey are Arabs, and Afrin is historically a Kurdish majority region. This means Turkey is planning a major change in the demographics of the area.

Oh, the US is absolutely out to destabilize Syria. People tend to forget that the US is AT WAR WITH ASSAD. We got sidetracked by the IS but now that that is done we're back at it. The (Syrian) Kurds however have no desire for independence however, only autonomy.

That's not what Washington said. They said they were in Syria to fight the terrorists, but as usual they lied. As for Assad, Washington wants regime changes whenever a leader does what its people want rather than what Washington wants. Everyone knows that. As for what it's doing now East of the Euphrates, it's just another land and resource grab.

We were in Syria BEFORE the IS. The mission had to change but now that the IS is done, we're back at it.

According to Lebanese Al-Mayadeen TV and reported by Greek pronews, Kurdish YPG volunteers have been allowed to pass through the Syrian areas, and together with Syrian government troops are arriving at Afrin. They are greeted with joy by the people in the area, although as yet they haven't entered the city because of Turkish bombardment - no doubt the civilian areas.

As for Turkish Foreign Minister Tsavosoglou, he said if the Syrian troops are there to clean out the YPG, then there is no problem. If they come to support the terrorists then no one will stop us. This concerns Afrin, Manbij, and Euphrates.

Yeah right! As if the Turks have the courage to attack the Americans in Manbij and Euphrates. We are not little Cyprus with its population of 700 thousand compared to your 75 million.

Turkey isn't going to do **** in the east with the US on the ground and with the Syrians in the west now, the Turks will be either be packing it up or provoking a war with Russia.

And now we have this from Sputnik:

...The statement was made following reports made by Syrian state TV claiming that Syrian government forces would enter Afrin "within hours.

However, this information has been denied by YPG representative in Afrin Brusk Haseke, who called them false and fake news in his interview to Sputnik.

It's not feasible for Syria to risk the lives of its men fighting the Turks, if the Kurds are going to turn their guns on them later on. Had the Kurds handed the city back to Syria as Russia asked them to, Moscow would have stopped the Turkish invasion - but the YPG didn't.

What is beneficial to Damascus, is to allow the Kurds a free passage through Syrian controlled territory, that way they can go to Afrin and save their people. So the choice is theirs, hold on to the oil and gas rich territory that doesn't belong to them, or leave that territory and save their people in Afrin.

I have a feeling that's what's causing all that confusion. Damascus is showing that if they want their help, then they have to come to a deal, otherwise it's no go.
