The simple answer is that I want to choose whether to participate. Since I choose not to participate, you can draw the lines anywhere you want.

We were discussing my voluntary program. I choose not to participate. You get to choose who gets paid.

Nah, not elderly yet, still have a good 15 years before retirement, I've been working since I was old enough to ride a bicycle to my job and before that I bummed rides from my parents. Something I can't say for millions that are much more lazy than I am or ever will be. And the progressives want to give them incentives to do less? Ridicules.

Friedman was wrong about several things.

He was talking about self interest, not greed.

The OBSESSION with greed is now HARMING We the People.

So according to you the wealthy are all lazy layabouts because they have no incentive to work.

    Got it!

Then I choose not to work. Why work my tail off when someone else is going to pay me for not working and, if I did work, I have to pay a large part of it to the government for people who chose not to work. Not a tough choice at all.

A “progressive” society where no one has to work if they dont want to will end up as one giant opium den where libs lay around and work on their poetry

Maybe I should get me list together for all the free stuff I expect liberal policy to then deliver to me. A beach house... maybe a place in the mountains.. and have to have cools cars to travel around in... and gas money.. lots of gas money... and technology... yup. oh and food.. lots of food....

And when the folks who just love working for the plantation find the money to support all that, you just let me know.

Why stay in slavery, only trading one master for another?

True freedom and happiness comes from independence. Nobody is forcing you to play the current game. I don’t. I never have been dealt in. I’m not playing any game where someone else with a history of cheating shuffles and deals. I’m certainly not going to play a game where that dealer also prints the cards.

You guys pick whatever slaver you prefer. I already know how to prosper either way you go.

Holding a job is baked into American DNA. Lose your job and depression and anxiety quickly roll into your life . Americans are the world's most productive workers, but as all things, that comes at a price to one's personal and family life. I am skeptical of utopian idealism. It seldom works out too well.

America is progressing (or sliding if you prefer) to socialism and has been for decades. Unemployment insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, family leave, and progressive taxation are arguably social programs implicit in a socialist society. A large majority of Americans are comfortable with this. What's on the table now is Medicare for all. Americans are unsure how this would play out. Being paid for not working wouldn't play well at all.

Americans see the value in work and the rewards that come to those that work hard. The American social contract; you work hard and be loyal and we will provide you a job for life began slipping away in the 1960's. Labor became mobile and businesses became very unstable because of technology and changing societal norms. The social contract was shattered when IBM dropped their job for life philosophy. Globalism finished it off.

The American economy and social order are in a state of extreme volatility and the middle class is getting buffeted by some very negative headwinds. Perhaps no headwind is greater than the enormous, historical, and unsustainable gap in wealth between the middle class and what has become known as the 1%. This is exactly the kind of thing that will push a nation either hard left to an egalitarian government (socialism, communism) or, worse, hard right to an Authoritarian government (dictatorship, fascism).

Americans have some big choices and hard times ahead.

Liberal Oppressives do not want anyone to work. That way people will need to rely on government for survival. Stalin would be proud!

nah, the wealthy just are smarter and work harder and have more incentive to build up their finances to a greater level than I desire. I don't need millions to be happy, but I'm not jealous or upset that others are more driven than I am or have enjoyed the benefits of hard work, luck, or privilege, I don't wish to make the extremely hard sacrifices necessary to build a large estate and would rather spend the extra time with family and friends as long as I don't become a burden for my peers.

I live quite comfortably, work about 35 hours a week, spouse works 40, we do well enough, paying down the mortgage faster than expected, on track for a comfortable retirement thanks to good (not great) wages, moderate lifestyle and diligent savings for the past 3 decades of marriage. We drive older cars (as in old enough to vote cars) but the savings obtained from that choice is used to travel frequently and under budget to various parts of usa, canada, europe several times a year. Both of us have spent 30+ years with the same employer, 25 years same home, etc. No other debt, life is pretty good.

In a nutshell the progressive message doesn't offer a dam thing to me except false promises, federal debt and more incentives for those lazier than myself to do nothing. Sorry to say this but UBI a load of crap, same goes for the majority of the progressive idea's being tossed around, hot garbage.

I won't vote for any progressive candidate, if a progressive wins the 2020 nomination, I'll be forced to vote for Trump.

edit, one more note: my mother who is in her mid 70's and has been a diehard democrat for her entire life, informed me Monday that she thinks the democrat's and their give aways are a load of crap, I was floored when she said that she'll vote for Trump in 2020, but i'm glad she's finally on board, go mom!

Thanks & have a nice day.

Read “1984” to get an idea of what a leftist future would be like.

We have gone over this enough times but I'll repeat it again for your benefit: UBI is NOT socialist as it was initially proposed by Founding Father Thomas Paine, 25 years BEFORE Marx was born. Click search for my earlier posts on the subject.

    I doubt it.

Look at California's progressive experiment. :roflol:

Corporations and manufacturing have fled from the once Golden State of California.

    You got milk ?

You who remember back when California was the Golden State are likely old enough to remember the milk man or saw those glass bottles of Broguiere milk especially Broguiere's chocolate milk. in the grocery stores shelves.
