Oh come on I have been more or less retired since my mid 40's and I've never run out of stuff to do to keep me busy.. Granted I work from time to time BUT, it takes some guilting and know me personally to get me to do it

People, if made comfortable without work wont work! We see it today, welfare fraud, subsidized housing/entertainment/food/energy/medicine/drugs and the list goes on and on and these folks simply adjust, sell dope, barter snap cards for cents on a dollar ect-ect!

I'm just saying, hell ya, sounds great, but look around this country OBJECTIVELY and the signs are up front and clear as a bell what this country would be under that type of program.. It would collapse from lack of productivity at the least!

I retired from corporate America a couple of years ago and since then I have started one business that just broke even 18 months after launching and I am investing in a spinoff that should increase revenue for the original business. I helped a buddy launch his own business and within a month he was doing business with large corporations. I am currently working on another business that I hope to launch in the 4th quarter.

I can only do all of this because I have the equivalent of UBI in the form of my retirement income and Medicare. By not having to worry about the basics and having the free time from not having to work I can now be creative and start all these new businesses.

TBH I would be bored stiff doing nothing all day. I enjoy working and setting my own schedule and being my own boss is highly rewarding. I feel like I have a new lease on life only now I can do what I want and that means seizing opportunities and making them productive.

I have come into contact with many other retirees who feel exactly the same way. They volunteer for all kinds of activities from reading to children to cleaning up waste and running shelters for both animals and humans. They can do all these things because they too have UBI.

 

Theres a lot of jobs that only get done because people need money. Who's gonna go in your sewers to fix stuff so your toilet doesnt back up? Cuz it sure as hell wont be me anymore if I can get paid to stay home.

 

Does that mean only people who are in favor of it should benefit from it as well?

Sorry but I'm still just not on board what this whole find yourself thing. I even took the time to listen to Yang's entire interview with Shapiro which was very interesting, and presented in a thoughtful and intelligent matter but in the end it made zero sense. I still have issues with the abuse of the welfare and Medicare disability system. I honestly think that Democrats just for some reason I don't quite understand human nature.

We have enough people with trouble getting motivated, and plenty of poets. Hard pass.

 

A corporation tax is a business expense. Most likely they will raise prices to pay for it. Ultimately, we all end up paying.

The tax is on corporate PROFITS causing a rise in prices is SELDOM effective because it leads to LOSS of market share as consumers will gravitate towards the corporations that do NOT raise their prices. The latter will make up their tax losses from larger sales volumes while the former struggle to remain competitive.

 

Robotic drones can explore the surface of Mars and perform brain surgery and do maintenance on oil pipelines but they can't fix sewers?

Just because no one has put together a robotic sewer drone does not mean that is impossible. When no one wants to inspect, clean and fix the sewers they will build that robotic drone to do it.

I can't get a handle on how the OP has the workplace pays for the programs if you don't have to work. Now 50 years from now when the robot/computers are doing 1/2 the work being done now something similar will need to be done, maybe a 20 hour work week with a guaranteed base income.

But with help wanted signs flying and 10% of adults who have worked full-time not being employed now, I can't see where people would want to work if they did not have too. Now I had an aunt that hated being retired and went back to work after 6 months.

Even under Yang's plan, on which I do see the benefits, I can see 3 couples sharing a 3 bed home and just getting bye on the 60,000.
