She shot the wrong man and made him a paraplegic. Probably used the gun she kept next to her bed. Odd huh? She is protesting against guns, but sleeps with one, then she shot someone.
http://www.tincher.to/mmm.htm After helping to organize the Million Mom March, and even speaking at the event, Barbara Graham was convicted of shooting an innocent man. Now he is paralyzed for life. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>pawned<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
One woman - and you are willing to paint everyone with the same brush??? I am not even bloody American and you are accusing me of being the same? So nice way to derail a thread - actually all the threads here have been derailed by A) not addressing the original post b) ad hominems c) introduction and focussing on side issues d) running away from actual researched statistics and talking points I have a "don't bother reading" list because life is too short to spend on people who are not willing to debate honestly and openly
Read back. There is more then one. Seems there lots of people who are anti gun ownership yet have guns.
You asked who should not own guns. I responded with a list of gun control advocates who should not own guns. You just didn't like the answer.
well, there's one person that agrees with me, you and I agree that you should never ever own a firearm you are a fine one for accusing someone for painting with a broad brush.....double standards? I did notice that most anyone who has disagreed with you and your fantasies has ended up on that life altering DBR..gawd all of us that are on that list are so shattered You do not debate anything. Your desire is to see Americans give up their guns. That won't happen in our lifetime. That mostly lies in the fact that you really have no idea what really makes Americans tick. That would really require you to come live here, and I suspect that will never happen so you are lacking susbtance to your so-called "expertise" and you will remain thus. You plant no seeds of doubt within the pro-gun community. You might consider focusing your attention elsewhere...maybe in another forum? You have opened 4 threads about this very subject and have failed each time. There are no converts, you lied about that .......dispel myths, that's funny......btw, where are your converts now?
Wife beaters, the insane and the psychopath? No limit? Golly, its good to see gun promoters willing to admit their position
Seriously mentally ill and minors should not own guns. I am unsure about criminals, but I think those who commited a serious violent crime should also face some restrictions.
Agreed Obsessive compulsive - one of the more obvious mental health problems - possibly the least likely to misuse a gun (and the black humour in me would say because they would be too busy polishing it to fire it) Schizophrenia - trouble is that is now being seen as a "spectrum" disorder with slightly whacky but brilliant people one end and full blown "listening to the voices" the other Paranoia - Now this is one group that is a definite danger with a gun however paranoia and more especially paranoid schizophrenia can be very abrupt with the first sign being a paranoid "outburst" of sudden violence on a somewhat lighter note there is some research saying holding a gun can make you more paranoid http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/thinking-tech/study-carrying-a-gun-can-make-you-more-paranoid/10875 (not going there anymore than the simple reporting of the research)" Depression - now you might say that depression would be one mental health issue that would not negate you owning a gun except that there is a much much much higher rate of suicide by gun among depressed people - and the problem with that is that unlike taking something like a valium overdose shooting yourself in the head has very nasty consequences http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/means-matter/means-matter/risk/index.html
if it's a constitutional right... then everyone if it a privilege, then we can restrict those privileges
Let's just say there are certain neighborhoods where I do not want people under the age of 21 owning a gun. But in other areas (without all those inner city social problems), I think it is perfectly acceptable for a 17 year old to own a gun. Just because someone has a "criminal history" should not mean they should never be allowed to own a gun for the rest of their life. A lifetime ban should only apply to repeat thieves, and criminals who have committed extremely violent crimes.
Gun control does not cure suicidal depression or any depression. Owning a gun does not cause depression or suicides. Duh.
Oh! it cures it if they are successful! And why argue with me? I just quoted Harvard - thought they were one of your premier universities?
so are cutting edges ( knives, razor blades) rope, bridges, traffic, and since you are medical profession as you claim, PILLS. Guns are not the only means of ending your life. How about suicided by cop or protest through starvation?
The empirical evidence shows that, unlike other suicide methods, guns do not have perfect substitutes. Those arguing otherwise are simply scared of reality.
..or her DBR list. DBR list (Don't Bother Reading) gawd, my world is shattered beyond recognition because I made her list.... but she still fills my ad hom list to completion.....so satisfying........
A very good poll, and a very tough question. Since I grew up in the American West, I see things the way they do. We hunt, we shoot, and we protect ourselves. Someone growing up in Sydney, Australia or London, England would likely have totally different views. It seems like some observations are self evident -- - guns will always exist - guns will always be easy to get even if you live on an island (Australia, Ireland, and UK etc.) - to successfully defend yourself you cannot let yourself be outgunned - everyone has a right to self preservation on this Earth. Those are all self evident, and therefore those all support the proposition that everyone has a right to a gun or guns.
If someone wants to commit suicide, you are not going to be able to stop them simply by taking away their guns. Where I live, there is a very famous bridge, the second most photographed object on this Earth next to the Eiffel Tower only. People, male and female, jump off it all the time. It's a one way trip, due to the height of the fall.
