Aren't books and qualified teachers spending it on kids?
Aren't they their to get educated?
Some folks should've stayed in school for the full duration. Then they don't need talk shows to think for them.

I get it. Keep kids dumb so they vote RW and listen to talk radio. That is your intent.
The ole, if it was good enough for me, it is good enough for them.
Didn't you post just a few weeks ago, that a city in austrailia was in europe?
We need better educated kids, not worse.

NOTHING you posted proves any correlation whatsoever.... Nice reach though. I guess the closest you could come is saying that COUNTRIES that have a higher belief in a god, NOT Bible readers, test at lower IQ's.... Boy what a manipulation of data that is.... Can't make the data represent what you want here in the US, so take it world wide and compare non religious US citizens with 3rd world religious people... As smart as you may consider yourself to be, you would think you would have caught that....

Oh by the way, all but one of the links take you to a log in site...
Do you actually pay people to tell you that you are smarter than others?

As for the gun correlation.... It's very much the same on the religious side as well, you just won't admit your wrong on this and that you made a silly comment.

It seems better than one who says lets cut teachers pay to build shelters instead of raising taxes and paying for it themselves.

Have you been in a classroom in the past 10 years? Almost any teacher that is not in a school for the GOOD of the students won't be there long....

I actually agree with this 100%... It's easy to say take it from someone else but very seldom does one say "I'm willing to pay my fair share".

Sure, how silly of me to think that facts matter... Again those damn studies based on facts....

There is no facts and the links you posted all went to a site that required a log in.... The only one that opened was one that was an article about how liberals were smarter than the rest of the rest of the world....

Put down the pipe and look at it yourself. I have proven my point 100%...

And yes, I don't trust studies, have you ever taken part in actually doing any kind of research dealing with intelligence or anything for that matter? If so you would know what I mean.

Thank you for reminding us why we cannot allow republicans to destroy science in the classroom.

Tornadoes are freaky. The one that hit my midwest city when I was 15 only gave us a messed up yard, bounced across the street where a neighbor had a huge oak tree and split it in half, bounced a block away where there were 3 schools and picked up 1/2 of a school....after that it stayed on the ground and picked up everything - houses lifted from their foundation, vehicles upside down, trees uprooted, some just gone.... the mobile home area was gone - nothing left..... it looked like a war zone.

I was only 15 and not very bright. When I heard the news guy telling us to get in our basement NOW, I stepped outside to check it out and looked right up at the funnel - a heartbeat later I was buried in our basement.... and yes, it does sound like a million rumbling freight trains crashing over your head.

Of course it's a 10 month job. I taught for 8 yrs (1992-2000), I'm married to a career teacher as well. Yes, they work more than contract time, but so do all good professionals.

I know of almost no coaches that aren't getting a stipend. The average salary does not include principals. It does include locales where teachers are paid quite a bit (NYC, etc.)

Linked is the BLS website page with salaries for secondary school teachers. That does not include principals or even teachers of specialized areas.

    http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes252031.htm

    Mean wage is $57,810.

Industry Employment (1) Percent of industry employment Hourly mean wage Annual mean wage (2)
    Elementary and Secondary Schools 950,440 11.47 (4) $57,810
    Employment Services 2,780 0.09 (8) (8)
    State Government (OES Designation) 1,620 0.07 (4) $59,070
    Local Government (OES Designation) 1,390 0.03 (4) $48,630
    Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools 1,170 0.04 (4) $47,860

I don't personally expect Obama to do anything. No more so than when a nut goes into an elementary school and kills with a gun. It's up to localities to protect their schools.....and that involves putting armed guards in schools if they want to AND building shelters or safe rooms in known tornado areas.

it's all for the kids is the most intellectually dishonest statement in human history. Any suggestion that teachers get paid for a job is met with "you must not be in it for the kids" I prove I'm in it for the kids when I cash my check.

taking money from teachers to build schools for little johnny is the same as robbing peter to pay paul

Congratulations. I do not personally care what you think on the topic, nor does your post have anything to do with anything I have said or the thread topic. If i wanted to discuss gun control I would go to a thread about that.

if they choose to strengthen codes as a feel good measure.... that's all it is, feelgood legislation. You simply can not build a school strong enough to survive, and there is no way to financially build enough individual shelters, and it's impossible to build a big enough shelter/multipurpose room that is accessible in the short time you have to get 500-1000 kids in. How many kids can you get in a door, 2 at a time in 10 minutes.

I see.... You taught before NCLB.... Yea I can see how teaching was a 10 month job then.... Maybe you should talk to someone that teaches a tested subject and has ABOVE AVERAGE scores.... I'm pretty sure you will find that teaching is NOT a 10 month job.
As for 57k a year.... LOL I'm ready.... There isn't even a bracket in my state that allows teachers to make that much even if they have their PhD. and 30+ years.... So talking averages doesn't impress me much, and by the way, where do you see that the average you posted doesn't include administration? It says it doesn't include Career and Technical educators..... It says nothing about administration.
There isn't many jobs that require the employees to have at least a 4 year degree to make less than 30k a year. About what our state pays teachers with a bachelors and a few years experience.....
Yea there are higher paid schools in the state, but you have to carry a gun or end up shot at them so who wants to be there?

There has been a lot of changes since you were in the classroom, not to mention its a lot more difficult job in states that don't have a teachers union to protect them.

As for coaching... The head coaches get a stipend... yep all 3-4k dollars of it.... And the offensive coordinator gets 1200 at our school... I use more gas than that going to practice during the summer.
Not to mention if you sponsor a student organization such as FFA, Technology club, cheerleading, ect....

LOL not even close to 10 months.... I bet I work more hours than ANY average professional... It's not for the money, but I bet I do. I'd also say that about the majority of the teachers at my school.... But then we have one of the BEST schools in our state, both academically and athletically.

    QUOTE - CRUE CAB
Not sure what the school death toll is going to be.
One But why was the school built in the path of previous deadly tornadic events I would imagine the odds of another tornado taking the exact same path would be astronomical..

Two, why was there not enough safe shelters for those students and teachers. Oklahoma is a red state, they hate taxes and government, so likely not enough money for it.

Three, what is going to be done when building new schools? They will assign an armed guard in front of every classroom.

How much effort is the Obama administration going to put forth to save the children of other schools in the area? Why should he do anything? Republicans have been (*)(*)(*)(*)ting on him since day one..now they want a favor?

Which govenor from another state is going to call for stricter building codes for homes and schools in his own state? Not mine...unless it's a private school for the very wealthy.

Why was this allowed to happen to begin with? Too much federal funding for tornados, not enough laws regulating illegal tornado activity, and lax enforcement of existing tornado laws.

Paying the teachers a little less will not make the kids grow up dumb.

    We already pay high taxes.

Liberals do not understand the concept of limited resources.

You seem to think that the money supply for your pet projects is inexhaustible if we just raise taxes.

    But it ain't so.

You want a job done but you want it done on the cheap...so does your boss.

I guess I could always do something else, huh?

Unless I was desperately clinging to my public sector job and was afraid to let go.

Some of you guys ought sit on a school board for awhile. Building and salaries are too entirely separate entries in a school's budget. Salaries will not be affected at all by construction costs.

In other words , if you had $6M in your construction budget and a project would cost $8M you don't vote to take $2M out of salaries, that isn't how it works.
