I suspect that you are also 'programmed' to hate. I kind of feel sorry for you. If you regard another as your enemy on the basis of non-threatening criticism then you may want to re-examine your own attitudes toward others.

 

There does indeed extremists in every religion, but not in the same way as it does with Islam. We don't see buddhists blowing up schools and beheading people in buddhist lands do we, nor do we have buddhists flying planes into infidels? Perpaps there are some small atrocities like that commited by other religions but mostly it's Islam, being terribly overrepresented. I'm not blaming this on Islam per se as this kind of terrorism is a modern phenomena. I think it's just the conservative forces reacting to the modernization of these societies by going into super hardcore reactionary mode.

I agree with the OP, but I would also say that until the moderate Muslims stand up to their extremists they will deserve the bad name the extremists give Islam in the eyes of the rest of the world. For evidence, I would point to the Pakistan election a little while ago where the extremists terrorized the electoral activities of the moderate parties, ensuring that an Islamic party won big. Where was the push back against the extremists when Pakistan needed it?

Need I remind you we didn't used to hate Islam. We (or at least, atheists) used to just see at as another crazy myth that a couple billion people were gullible enough to believe. Nothing new there.

Then they started blowing people up. Demolishing buildings. Suicide bombers. Crashing planes. Calling for the destruction of entire groups of people (Jews, Americans, etc). You don't see extremist Christians doing this sort of thing almost at all - we haven't fought a war to suppress Christian terrorists, only one to suppress Islamic ones. You can point out all the bad things America has ever done, it doesn't excuse the behaviour of the conservative elements of your religion.

Not to mention the public beheadings for things like being gay or being raped.
