    http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/dod/du_factsheet_4aug98.htm

"...When fired, or after "cooking off" in fires or
explosions, the exposed depleted uranium rod poses an extremely low radiological threat as long as it remains outside the body. Taken into the body via metal fragments or dust-like particles, depleted uranium may pose a long-term health hazard to personnel if the amount is large. However, the amount which remains in the body depends on a number of factors, including the amount inhaled or ingested, the particle size and the ability of the particles to dissolve in body fluids..."

"With all of the medical and environmental concerns over DU, why hasn't DOD found a substitute for DU?

Each weapon system that uses DU has undergone extensive developmental testing and evaluation. As part of that process, DOD evaluates possible alternative metal alloys considering operational requirements and medical/environmental impacts. As improvements have been made in the "hardness" of armored vehicles, tests have demonstrated that DU offers superior performance to all other alloys."

Or, in other words, its not very likely to cause a problem, but likely enough that thousands of people firing millions of rounds is going to cause problems... but its armor penetrating capabilities are worth it.

...just not worth the DoD footing the bill to compensate victims or clean up afterward.

    "extremely low level of radioactivity"?
Depleted uranium is 60 percent as radioactive as natural uranium and a half-life of 4.5 billion years.

That is a myth. Radium is not what killed Marie Curie. Look it up.

She died of cancer. I ask again, why are your engineers so patheticly stupid to not be able to follow our solutions?

Your strongest cannon cant penetrate the russian armata tank with depleted uranium ammo. Our Rheinmetall cannon can destroy the Armata with tungsten ammo.

    What do you guys wrong?

Curie's cancer is now believed to have been caused by excessive exposure to x rays from those primitive x ray devices they used on soldiers back then.

The American Civil War was over 152 years ago. Back before Germany was even pulled together as a nation. But glad you admit to being a racist.

Depleted uranium is only slightly Depleted uranium if 40% LESS readioactive than natural unprocessed uranium. Unfired shells have metal coating around them that encases the carefull radioactivity.

Fragments from exploded shells are marginally harmful and the. DOD is studying thise effects on American and other NATO servicemen.

BTW using DU for ammunition does help in the solution of the hazardous don't you agree?

Wrong DU- depleted uranium is 40% less radiative as naturally occurring unprocessed uranium. Madam Curie had been exposed to radioactive material fir a long number of years.

Why do we see gigantic rise in cancer and birth defects in evry area where this was used?

As a cohesive nation. Not as a handy spot in central Europe for stronger nations to use as a battlefield.

war zones don't tend to be conductive to good health. That said I've never denied Depleted Uranium isn't toxic and you should avoid breathing it. Just it isn't a weapon of mass destruction and doesn't cause harm primarily via radiation.

Wrong again. The German Empire ruled much of Europe for hundreds of years. Emperor Friedrich for example crushed italy and made it part of our Empire.

The first German Empire lasted from 10th century to 18th century.

That wasn't the German Empire. That was Prussia. You remember Prussia don't you? It originated in that sliver of what is today Russian territory on the Baltic..

Germans should learn their own history.

I agree with you that DU works much better than other hard metals but it us a little bit radioactive. I absolutely approve of it's use for shells. Considering the topic you come across as foolish and uneducated with the flipant food additive food dye remark. That degrades the positive argument some of us are trying to make about the beneficial used of DU.

Wrong. You mistake Friedrich Barbarossa with Friedrich the Great.

The Holy German Empire existed from 10th century onwards to 1806. Prussia was a region in that empire.

Post a link for evidence then. As a history teacher I'm interested. The "Holy Roman Empire" was a loose collection of German states mainly.

But it wasn't an "Empire" (or Holy, or Roman for that matter).

It is true that radiation will cause many cancers and birth defects but we need proof that it was the DU that caused it.

The American government was never invited into Syria and Assad keeps telling them to get the hell out of there. Washington went under the pretense it was fighting terrorists, when its main purpose was to get rid of Assad and split the country up like the Balkans. That way they will always have friction with one another. It was Washington's present to the Syrian people, and Assad's present back was Vladimir Putin.

Whenever the Syrian government was winning, either Israel or the US would find an excuse to attack them so as to even out the playing field and keep the war going on... The intent was to kill as many Syrians as possible. Aren't we lovely, and then we wonder why they hate us.

Studies have been conducted of workers and other persons who have ingested or inhaled uranium, and there is no known association between low-level DU exposure and adverse health effects, including birth defects.

    https://hps.org/documents/dufactsheet.pdf

No it is not. The half-life of U-238 is more than 4 Billion years.

In addition to depleted uranium other war-related environmental factors have been studied and linked directly or indirectly with the increasing prevalence of birth defects. However, the reviewed studies and the available research evidence do not provide a clear increase in birth defects and a clear indication of a possible environmental exposure including depleted uranium although the country has been facing several environmental challenges since 1980.

I have news for you, Sobo might be obnoxious but he's right. An Orthodox saint said two decades ago, that without the US there would be no wars. We are not the nation our forefathers built, and which was looked upon as a saviour to the world. We have been manipulated by the worse elements, so that now we are a curse to the world... The best thing we can do is take our armies and butt out, and leave the world alone.

This doesn't mean I'm excusing Germany and Merkel's hard handed methods towards other nations in the EU. I don't expect the EU to survive because of it..

    Rubbish.

“Depleted Uranium (DU) weaponry has been used against Iraq for the first time in the history of recent wars. The magnitude of the complications and damage related to the use of such radioactive and toxic weapons on the environment and the human population mostly results from the intended concealment, denial and misleading information released by the Pentagon about the quantities, characteristics and the area’s in Iraq, in which these weapons have been used.”
    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-considine/us-depleted-uranium-as-ma_b_3812888.html

"... an extraordinary situation of congenital birth defects in both nature and quantity. The investigation demonstrated a significant rise of these health consequences in the period following the war... An overview of scientific literature relating to the effects of uranium and heavy metals associated with munitions used in the 2003 Iraq War and occupation, together with potential exposure pathways, strongly suggest that environmental contamination resulting from combat during the Iraq War may be playing a significant role in the observed rate of birth defects."
    https://www.theguardian.com/environ...health-organisation-iraq-war-depleted-uranium

“In regards to the U.S. responsibility for the depleted uranium, the Iraqi government has been put under pressure by the U.S. government not to publish too much information about it or to speculate on what it thinks has happened and to limit government resources to this issue,” Zwijnenburg told MintPress News, “as the Iraqi government still receives a lot of support from the U.S. government. Additionally, the Iraqi government does not want to scare off investment, particularly in the south, such as oil investors who may be scared off with talk of depleted uranium contamination."
