People have been enjoying the prosperity and peace of the after Reagan years, and forgot the economic woes and nuclear fears of the before Reagan years. It's a pity!

I was a director of finance for a few years. Supervised 13 employees.
I always told my employees - if you want a pen or some other office products (and I always ordered superior pens because I like pricier gel pens) I was telling them - come up to me and if you want to take something home - talk with me. I even gave away new laptops. But I always told them - steal from the company (even a pen) and I will fire you in a second because if I cannot trust you with small stuff, how can I trust you with real cash? Never had a stealing employee. Workplace theft is a bug that needs to be crushed when born!

Nuclear fears that never amounted to anything.

While the "missile gap" was overstated, there was a real threat of nuclear war. We had just 15 years before ended the War in the Pacific through the use of nuclear weapons on civilian populations.

The Reagan Admin. began in 1981 and ended in 1989.

Some 36 to 44 years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The "missile gap" was in the 1950s and 1960s. Also well before the Reagan Admin.

I thought you were referring to the missile gap. But, there was still a mutual threat during the Reagan years as well. It was Reagan's threat to develop the anti-missile missile protection system (Star Wars) that forced the USSR to either agree to nuclear arms control treaties, in order to avoid having to develop a similar system.

Pretty hard to be humorous when dealing with partisans. They take politics far too seriously.

Germany has also many poor like any western nation. Some countries (like Germany) hide them behind social laws and measures. But many of those people will never get along without help. No matter what the government does for them. They're actually lost in the maze called socialism.

The US is truer than your country. She's not ashamed of her people. They get help to learn how to help themselves, not only welfare checks just to survive next week.

I was thinking this very AM as to why Democrats despise Trump. As the Executive, his task is to the Feds only. Such as executive orders delivered to the various agents of the Fed Government. They can't conceivably get hurt since they live in States subject to state rules. Take CA, they will penalize a cop for trying to arrest an illegal for crossing the border. That to me is a lot more vital than Trump chatting with a foreign head who measures the funds of our nation to such foreign operations. Impeachment over this is ignorant and will never result in any conviction. Democrats are blowing smoke up people's skirts.

True and this is also true. If I ate fish daily for all meals, you bet your bippy I would reach the point where I would barf back up fish. Some fish to this day is hard to eat for me. I am one that does not like crab meat either.

Stagflation imposes poverty on millions. Reagan cured it. It still has not returned. And of course we do not imagine daily our populated cities vanishing in a burst of light and severe blasts of air. prior to him it was a common fear even expressed in newspapers and on TV. We used to see the doomsday clock. Trump is keeping it at a good level too. Do we see any fear of North Korea? Not at all.

If we allowed them to, Democrats would not allow the missile Defense that was set into motion by Reagan and to this day is still working and still being improved. Democrats want that killed off.

In regards to Germany and their education system, IIRC Germany has an apprenticeship program that serves to delay by several years when Germans graduate from college. Most Americans that obtain bachelors degrees get them when they are 22 or 23 years old (I got mine when I was barely 21). Yet IIRC (and this is from about two decades ago but I haven't heard of it changing) most Germans obtain a Bachelor's degree (4 year college degree) when they are about 29.

I spent decades in a major Real Estate operation. From 1971 until June of this year. It was a membership corporation. We had as many as 3500 members when I was one of the Directors. I also was a director of the state of CA realtors group. Directed around 135,000 members. My pet peeve was directors who did a lousy job representing members.

As to customer service, I campaigned for members to be treated like owners rather than customers. Believe me, it was not as easy to do as one might think. But I did make it happen at least locally.

When I was in Germany (62-64) I was told by Germans that their system segregated students into two groups in general. Group A got taught a trade. Group B was educated to do fine in a college there.

My highschool did it too. We had a huge part of the school devoted to trade education but in my group we were slated to go to a college.

I don't think millions existed in India. I recall reading once that the population according to the first census in India was only 60 thousand. The British were also Christian and did introduce certain humane practices like stopping Suttee. I'm sure there were others, so when we think of Britain, we must look at it in the context of the times. Regardless of their prejudices, they were probably the most humane nation in the world and were superseded only by the US later on.

I recall when the colonies gained their freedom after WWII, that the only ones where the people were educated enough to maintain a government, or at least for the short term, were the colonies under Britain.

As for the American colonies, they had the highest standard of living in the world, so there was really no reason for them to declare their Independence - but they did. I guess they didn't like the German king. As for winning the war, well it's very difficult for armies to cross water. Hitler had never managed to cross the English Channel, and it's a lot smaller than the Atlantic ocean.

Well the American colonists were annoyed at British regular troops and mercenaries being stationed here and having to pay taxes to support them. Though given the French-Indian (Seven Years) War just a few years earlier their presence was perfectly justified.

Note that the issue of having to provide shelter for troops was a big enough of an issue that it actually made it into the Bill of Rights just a decade or so later (3rd Amendment IIRC).

I'm sure C-Span picks and chooses.

Actually we should fear today, because the doomsday clock has just reached the point of no return - but unlike then, the MSM are owned by the same corporations that control our government - so we are told nothing.

Our foreign policy must be run by fools, or their self serving interests are superseding their common sense. They are trying to repeat Reagan's policy of an arms race to break the economy of the Russian Federation, (no doubt to rob Russia like in the 90's), and instead they are destroying the American dollar and destroying us. I'm sure their own pockets are being padded though.

Last month Putin said they will not be dragged into an arms race, and even though they spend less on military than the US, China, Saudi Arabia, the UK, France and Japan, that Russia enjoyed “unmatched military capabilities” because they have focused their research on priority areas. Monday he told a government meeting that they are now able to cut down on defense spending since they have reached the peak of their planned initiatives to ensure Russia's security.

I agree completely. Reagan had nothing to do with any favours for Germany. He was an opportunist simply PR-ing his career. The same for "Ik been een Balina!" Kennedy. He was bombing the shyt out of Vietnam and then acting like he was a lover of freedom.
