Trump makes — and loses — overnight bid to block Jan. 6 investigators

If you blinked you missed it.

Former President Donald Trump filed an emergency request to a federal judge late Monday night to prevent the National Archives from sending sensitive records to Jan. 6 committee investigators by Friday. And just after midnight, Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected it, contending the request itself was legally defective and “premature.”

The unusual exchange, which happened in a span of two hours, comes as Chutkan is already considering an earlier request by Trump to prevent Congress from peering into his White House’s records about his attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Trump sued to block the National Archives from turning the records over last month, after President Joe Biden declined to assert executive privilege on his behalf. The Archives indicated it would turn the papers over to lawmakers by Friday, unless a court intervened.

Don is spending the money he fleeced from duped MAGAbots after he lost the election on blocking the Jan. 6 investigation.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol issued subpoenas Tuesday to 10 Trump administration officials, including some of former president Donald Trump’s closest advisers who were in the White House that day.

Those subpoenaed to provide testimony and documents include John McEntee, the former White House personnel director; Ben Williamson, a former deputy assistant to the president and senior adviser to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows; and Nicholas Luna, the former president’s personal assistant.

Others close to the president who were subpoenaed include Molly Michael, the Oval Office operations coordinator to Trump.

Michael still works for Trump and was in the White House for much of Jan. 6.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Casting a dark cloud over the select committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, congressional Republicans protested, in no uncertain terms, the panel’s “utter lack of rioters.”

Leading the charge was House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who called the commission “little more than a gussied-up festival of anti-riot propaganda.”

“Nancy Pelosi’s handpicked Democratic panel members all have one thing in common: none of them took part in the riot,” McCarthy said. “Without an equal number of rioters on the panel, we’ll never get to hear both sides of this thing.”

Yet another another foolish political witch hunt.

Federal Judge Again Rejects Trump Effort To Block Jan. 6 Committee’s Subpoena

Former President Trump’s attempts to stonewall the Jan. 6 select committee have failed for the third time in two days.

The National Archives intends to provide some materials to the committee as early as Friday.

In a ruling late last night, U.S. District court Judge Tanya Chutkan said she would refuse to stay her decision the day before, which denied the former president’s request an injunction that would bar the committee from accessing executive branch records created during his administration.

Can we "audit" the 1/6ers for being homosexuals?

One of the q-anon leaders has a prior arrest for molesting a male child. Jacob chansley, the q-anon guy with the Viking hat, he lives with mommy at home and does not work and is a failed actor, no evidence of wife, kids, or girlfriends at age 33...

Is q-anon really a fraud run by left wing homos pretending to be trump lovers?

We will find a shocking statistical ANOMOLY if we audit this group for being gay. Less than 1% of GOP voters are gay.

Those instigating the charge to the hill were homos in MAGAdrag, frauds who pretend to be activist republicans but are really homosexual leftwing frauds used to push the 1/6 hate hoax.

    AUDIT The 1/6ers for homosexuality

And the left's lies get exposed just as they are now about Russia...

Federal grand jury indicts former Trump adviser Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress

(CNN)A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against former Trump adviser Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has been under tremendous political pressure to indict Bannon since the House referred the Trump ally to the Justice Department for contempt on October 21.
"Since my first day in office, I have promised Justice Department employees that together we would show the American people by word and deed that the Department adheres to the rule of law, follows the facts and the law, and pursues equal justice under the law," Garland said in a statement Friday. "Today's charges reflect the Department's steadfast commitment to these principles."

This CANNOT be allowed to happen again. The only way to keep this from happening again is to bring to justice those at the very top who were responsible for the failed Coup.

Trump ally Steve Bannon surrenders on contempt charges over Jan. 6 Capitol riot probe

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon surrendered Monday to federal authorities in Washington, D.C., where he faces criminal charges after defying a subpoena from the lawmakers investigating the deadly Capitol invasion.

Bannon, 67, was charged with two counts of contempt of Congress following his refusal to comply with demands to produce documents and sit for a deposition as part of that investigation.

QAnon shaman’ sentenced to 41 months for role in Capitol riot

Jacob Chansley, whose brightly painted face, tattooed torso and horned cap became a visual icon of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced Wednesday to 41 months in prison by a federal judge in Washington. His lawyer had asked the judge to impose a sentence of time already served, basically the entire 10 months since the insurrection, during which Chansley attracted more attention for demanding an organic diet while in jail and giving an interview to “60 Minutes.”

The sentence of roughly 3 ½ years is equal to the longest yet handed down to a Capitol rioter. Of the roughly 130 people who have pleaded guilty so far, only 16 have admitted to felonies, and Chansley is the fourth felon to be sentenced. The other three received terms of eight, 14 and last week a man who punched a Capitol police officer also received 41 months.

Jan. 6 committee subpoenas Roger Stone and Alex Jones

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol is charging ahead with subpoenas on some longtime denizens of Trump World: InfoWars head Alex Jones, self-described dirty trickster Roger Stone, and rally promoters Dustin Stockton and Jennifer Lawrence. The committee is also subpoenaing former President Donald Trump’s current spokesperson, Taylor Budowich.

“The Select Committee is seeking information about the rallies and subsequent march to the Capitol that escalated into a violent mob attacking the Capitol and threatening our democracy,” Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement. “We need to know who organized, planned, paid for, and received funds related to those events, as well as what communications organizers had with officials in the White House and Congress.”

While the Jan. 6 committee goes about its business the cable station many conservatives rely on for their news continues its propaganda campaign to whitewash the coup.

Reeks of desperation not justice, as the Dems try desperately to redirect Americans' righteous wrath away from the abysmally incompetent and lying Whitehouse team that can't seem to get out of its own way.

An Indiana man charged with carrying a loaded firearm to the Capitol on Jan. 6 told investigators that if he had found Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “you’d be here for another reason,” according to court documents posted over the weekend.

Mark Mazza, 56, is the latest of about half a dozen Jan. 6 defendants charged with bringing a gun to the Capitol. In this case, Mazza allegedly carried a Taurus revolver known as “The Judge,” which is capable of firing shotgun shells — two of which were in the chamber, along with three hollow-point bullets. A Capitol Police sergeant obtained the weapon after allegedly fending off an assault from Mazza.

Jan. 6 Committee Subpoenas Far-Right Groups

The House January 6 Committee sent subpoenas on Tuesday to a series of far-right groups and their leaders whose members were involved in either the Capitol insurrection or the rallies beforehand.

The Proud Boys, its leader Enrique Tarrio, and the Oath Keepers and its leader Stewart Rhodes all received House subpoenas.

The panel also issued a subpoena to First Amendment Praetorian and its founder, Robert Patrick Lewis. First Amendment Praetorian provided security for a rally on Jan. 5 at Freedom Plaza, according to a permit for the event and its organizer, Cindy Chafian.

The subpoenas come one day after the panel signaled that its investigation into the rally on the White House ellipse on Jan. 6 had expanded, with demands for documents and interviews going to far-right provocateurs Alex Jones and Roger Stone, but also to people involved in organizing the rally behind the scenes.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/january-6-committee-oath-keepers-proud-boys-subpoena

My guess is the committee is gathering all the info it can before issuing a subpoena to the Orange Insurrectionist.

A panel of D.C. appeals court judges may be setting the stage to throw out former President Trump’s Jan. 6 records case.

In a Tuesday evening filing, the D.C. federal appeals panel told lawyers on both sides of the case, in which Trump is trying to block Congress from accessing White House records relating to Jan. 6, to prepare to argue over whether the court even had a basis to weigh in on the question.

    NBC first noted the filing.

In the order, the three-judge panel said that attorneys for Trump, the House Jan. 6 Committee, and the National Archives needed to be ready to argue over whether the court had jurisdiction to decide any of Trump’s claims.

It’s a threshold question that may signal skepticism on the part of the court towards the lawsuit. That skepticism would be echoed by many experts in the field, who told TPM last month that Trump’s claims in the lawsuit were absurd enough to allow the courts to reject the suit on threshold questions alone.

the person who opened this thread bas taken no time to look into what FBI has already investigated..

This is clearly another political scam, this congress will not find anything that hasn't been looked at by FBI already. The main goal here is keep talking g about Jan 6th, keep lying about it being an insurrection (not just a riot by idiots like the shaman), keep lying about it being a group of white supremacists... all to try and win elections. It's disgraceful...

House Jan. 6 committee intensifies focus on law enforcement failures that preceded Capitol attack

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol is increasingly focused on law enforcement failures that preceded the insurrection, scrutinizing in particular multiple warnings of possible violence that went unheeded by the FBI, according to people familiar with its work and individuals who have been contacted by the committee.

Donell Harvin, the former head of intelligence for D.C.’s homeland security department, said he has met twice in the past two weeks with committee investigators, who he said appeared intent on understanding how information was shared between agencies in the weeks before the attack.

Harvin — whose team was in charge of assessing threats to D.C. — said he told committee investigators that he did not learn of the warnings received by the FBI in advance of Jan. 6 until months after the Capitol siege. “I told them that I think there needs to be a big discussion about how we look at domestic intelligence, because right now, it’s fragmented,” he said.

Capitol riot suspect’s court hearing turns to potential criminal charge for Trump

Could former President Donald Trump be charged with a crime for urging then-Vice President Mike Pence not to certify the electoral vote tally?

That appeared to be the thrust of a question U.S. District Court Judge Carl Nichols posed on Monday at a court hearing for one of the hundreds of Americans charged in the Capitol riot.

Roger Stone, an ally of former President Donald Trump, claimed this week that former Trump aide Katrina Pierson was "deeply involved" with the violence of the January 6 attack targeting the U.S. Capitol.

Posting to Telegram early Thursday morning, Stone appeared to suggest that Pierson deserved a great deal of blame for the pro-Trump attack against the legislative branch of government. Stone also seemed to be unaware that Pierson—like himself—has been subpoenaed by the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack.

"Given what I know, I am perplexed as to why the January 6 committee has not issued a subpoena to Katrina Pierson, in other words, someone deeply involved in the violent and unlawful acts of January 6, rather than me, given that I was not there and have no advance knowledge or involvement whatsoever in the events at the Capitol That day #Jan6Cmte," Stone wrote in a message to his Telegram channel subscribers.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who serves on the Jan. 6 select committee, on Sunday suggested that the panel plans to take action against former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows this week if he continues to defy the panel’s subpoena.

Appearing on CNN, Schiff was asked whether his suggestion earlier this month that the committee will “move quickly” to refer Meadows for criminal contempt charges after he refused to meet with congressional investigators is still likely going to happen.

Schiff replied that the committee will likely make a decision this week regarding actions taken against witnesses who have defied its subpoenas.

“I think we will probably make a decision this week on our course of conduct with that particular witness and maybe others,” Schiff said. “I can’t go into what communications that we’re having or haven’t had with particular witnesses. But we are moving with alacrity with anyone who obstructs the committee.”

""This CANNOT be allowed to happen again"" ""to keep this from happening again"" is to hold the people accountable that were derelict in their duty to provide the necessary security at the capitol after having a budget for the Capitol Police more than most big cities in America.... If a few hundred people can disrupt our government then we are in bad shape. Pelosi has Ashli Babbitt’s blood or her hands.
