If you can't understand the only reason for this law is because the federal government isn't enforcing its own laws on illegal immigration how can we have a productive debate? The only reading comprehension problem is you. You said you were not comparing the two. I didn't disagree with that. I said you were equating the two. Please read more carefully next time. Again to what you ducked, explain to us what motivations you perceive have to do with the law the people voted on? What goes on in your head that thinks your perceived reason for enforcing current law makes any difference? Since you are clearly lacking the understanding of basic words allow me to show you the difference. xeno·phobic adj. A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples. Saying Americans and not people here illegally should have jobs is clearly not xenophobic. You really need to get a basic grasp on words before you use them. So in your world the very concept of nations is obsolete. Thats your premise. Wow. If your entire argument is based on the fact that you believe nations are no longer necessary not only do you not understand basic history but current history in the world must also allude you. Do you believe we should all live in communes and become one with the flower people? Clearly you have not thought this through. How exactly would we pay for all of these new people you would let in without reservation? Have you looked at the debt in this country? Please, explain how we could finally absorb anyone and everyone who wants to come here. Go right ahead. And since you ducked it again, where in the law does it say only illegals that are not white are subject to this law? Explain your BS racism charge. This from someone who wants to abolish all nations. Right, I'm the only having a problem with reality. Simple if you have no understanding of the word xenophobic whatsoever. Since I've already provided the definition and how laughably you are in your misuse of the word I wont harp on that. It is good to see you backing off your moronic bigotry charge though. Hey genius, we are talking about your moronic argument that all illegals are Mexican. a glimmer of light fights its way to shine through the ignorance. The stupidity of your charge is basing it on the theory not fact. If they attack all illegals regardless of skin color you can't claim racism. BTW, your numbers as is your arguments, completely and utterly laced with ignorance. Oh and the source is NPR just in case you want to attack the credibility of the link. 90% lol http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4703307 Enjoy your fail. Again. Obviously far more than you do. And I am stunned by your unbelievable ignorance of basic words in the English language. Back to school I see. In simple terms, a free market is a summary term for an array of exchanges that take place in society. Each exchange is a voluntary agreement between two parties who trade in the form of goods and services. In reality, this is the extent to which a free market exists since there will always be government intervention in the form of taxes, price controls and restrictions that prevent new competitors from entering a market. Just like supply-side economics, free market is a term used to describe a political or ideological viewpoint on policy and is not a field within economics. Same question: Where does it say in free market economics which you clearly have no idea what that is does it state free market is defined as disregarding national sovereignty? Of course it doesn't. Even free market principles are governed around a society. You want to abolish nations and the society they create. Next time don't skip ahead in English class. Stay for the whole lesson.
Detained for the safety for the people that are here legally. If it is proven they did nothing wrong then they will be on their way.
Well fine. Why don't you open your door to some illegals and let them stay a while. See how you like them around.
Then they won't have a problem proving it. A finger print on a telegraph now carried by many police would prove it in minutes.
If Alabama really wanted to sign a tough immigration law, it would recognize that the 14th ammendment was never meant to apply to the children of illegal aliens, and it would cease to recognise the children of illegal aliens as being real citizens of the USA. You people need to recognise that the REAL problem is not the illegals themselves, but all the children they have once they get into the USA. Simply dealing only with the surface of illegal immigration is not addressing the real problems illegal immigration is going to cause. Yes, the "tough" immigration laws are going to make it more difficult for Alabama and Georgia to compete with the other states that have access to the cheap illegal labor. But at the same time, this temporary cost is like an investment, as it will save the states from later having to take care of the children the illegals will have. No employer would willingly hire illegals if the company had to pay to costs of educating the illegal's children, and of paying for their medical treatment in emergency rooms! The big success of Texas's economy from the cheap illegal labor actually comes at the direct expense of other states, who do not have nearly so many cheap workers. Of course, these "cheap" workers are not really "cheap" at all, as the state of Texas will slowly begin to realize after it is too late.
Looks like a federal judge let the majority of the law stand. http://mobile.al.com/advbirm/pm_29179/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=GiJKO3Lj
How tough do you want? Probably over half the illegals have already left. It is now against the law to hire an illegal for any job lasting over 24 hours...or any job that requires a contract. The law is hard enough.
Federal Judges upholds most of the law. http://www.al.com/newsflash/index.s...-immigration/23925d3b6ce84bbda258f42eadf5473a
You carry your papers all the time, I'm sure. Your Driver's License and/or State ID. When you drive, you also have your car registration and insurance papers. Nothing out of the ordinary. What's the problem?
You do know that legal immigrants and those on temporary visas are required by federal law to have their immigration papers and visa on them or available at all times?
Obama Administration Seeks to Block Alabama Immigration Law: ATLANTAThe federal government asked an appeals court Friday to halt the Alabama immigration law, saying it could have dire diplomatic consequences abroad, invites discrimination and forces illegal immigrants into neighboring states. The motion, filed in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, claimed Alabama's new law is "highly likely to expose persons lawfully in the United States, including school children, to new difficulties in routine dealings." A federal judge earlier upheld two key provisions in the law that allow authorities to question people suspected of being in the country illegally and hold them without bond, and let officials check the immigration status of students in public schools. Those measures have already taken effect and will remain in effect while the appeals court weighs the Justice Department's request. The provisions help make the Alabama law stricter than similar laws passed in Arizona, Utah, Indiana and Georgia. Federal judges in those states have blocked all or parts of those measures. Alabama Republicans have long sought to clamp down on illegal immigration and passed the law this year after gaining control of the Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed it, saying it was vital to protect the jobs of legal residents. The measure has already had an immediate impact. Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home from school. The appeal said parts of the new law conflict with federal guidelines. Requiring police officers to report people who are suspected of being in the country illegally, it said, "unnecessarily diverts resources from federal enforcement priorities and precludes state and local officials from working in true cooperation with federal officials." It also said the attempt to drive illegal immigrants "off the grid" would negatively impact diplomatic relations with foreign countries and disrupt immigration policy across the nation. "Other states and their citizens are poorly served by the Alabama policy, which seeks to drive aliens from Alabama rather than achieve cooperation with the federal government to resolve a national problem," it said. If the federal government did cooperate there would be no need for the law to be passed. The fed will not enforce their own laws. All the federal government wants do do is give them all amnesty. Nice try...no cigar.
It's election time. Obama needs to expand his base. That is the only sane reason why he kisses illegal butt.
But what if you're a legal citizen? Why should they have to carry papers? I wonder how many Canadian illegals they will catch with this new law...
It is the law..a legal immigrant must have his papers avalible at all times. And why in the world would a Canadian enter the U.S. illegally...so they could make less money and buy health insurance?
I'm not talking about legal immigrants, I'm talking about legal citizens who cops will "suspect" are illegals. Why should they have to carry papers?
As I stated before because it is the law. One good reason would be to tell who is here with permission and who is not. Legal canadians in this country have to carry papers also. But there are not millions of Canadians here working without permission. And anyone can be stopped if they are suspected of being here against the law. But we do not have a Canadian illegal problem...we have a Latino immigration problem...It would not make sense to stop Canadians. If a person can not even speak english it is a good bet that they were not born in Alabama...or in the U.S. for that matter. And check out the Mexican immigration laws before you get up on a high horse.
Because its the law? Is the law always just? And I don't see too many Americans rishing to get to Mexico.
Is it just to enjoy the benefits of a country without obeying its laws? Is it just to invade another country? Beacuse ...if you do not have permission to be here you are an invader.
Legal citizens already have "papers", and generally carry them on their person or in their car when driving - driver's license/state ID, car registration, insurance papers, and if you are a resident alien or green card holder, you are required to carry those papers. Nothing out of the ordinary.
