    Ah, OK. Sorry.

I didn't realise you admitted your cowardice.

    As you were then.

Youre living proof, The democrats of our parents time no longer exist....

Democrats used to be like this:
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLdA1ikkoEc"]John F Kennedy 'Ask not' - YouTube[/ame]

    Now Democrats are like this:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI"]Obama Is Going To Pay For My Gas And Mortgage!!! - YouTube[/ame]

I figure its got something to do with electing this guy:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmHtGQq-z_Y"]Obama No flag pin for him - YouTube[/ame]

Have you considered moving to France? Its illegal to send their military anywhere....

I wasn't right that your correction of someone's spelling was a desperate attempt to be right in a discussion where you are failing badly? I'm pretty sure I was right about that one.

Glad we established this. Now if only we can convince more leftists to just admit that they would be too scared to serve their country. It's never been about how wrong they view military actions. That's just the mask they wear.

    It's "you're".

You've been told twice now. Don't make me have to tell you again.

I don't believe the draft should be reinstated. It is wrong to force someone to fight in a war, especially ones that they disagree with. Given the history of our politicians rushing us off into asinine quagmires, I wouldn't blame any person for not wanting to serve.

However, reinstating the draft may be beneficial, but for different reasons other than what the OP stated. Perhaps these wars would have been over by now if a draft was reinstated due to dissent. Apathetic Americans would start caring more about our atrocious foreign policy that rush us off into quagmires.

Why does it have to be a mask? It's the same thing. Who isn't afraid to die for something they believe is morally wrong? Why would that be surprising to anyone? I'm not sure if anyone thinks they are hiding that.

I would hope that if you're willing to kill and die for something that you believe it is morally right to do so. Otherwise you're just a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing psycho path.

It's always about how wrong they view military actions.

    I know, because I'm a "leftist".

How do you explain your "opinion"?

    Hmmm?

I don’t think you are understanding what the poster is saying… It’s not that he/she’s against the military. It’s that they are against fighting for something they don’t believe in… The poster would become a Conscientious objector. Not good…

I have to shoot him if I stood post with the poster – send him/her home and get someone else who “wants” to walk the wall with me! :)

No, that’s the flag we should adopt if we institute a mandatory draft.

Here's a question for you, or anyone willing to consider it: What do you think of a mandatory conscription for non-combat military duty? Such as filling administrative, logistics, and specialty (e.g., technical) positions?

I'm not necessarily pro-conscription, but I do think it's detrimental that so much of American society is removed from the activities that our military is engaged in. Many people don't even know Active Duty members personally, so they do the same thing we all do with people-groups that we don't know: stereotype. The reverse is also true, that "jarheads," "squids," and "dogfaces" tend to associate in exclusively military circles.

I could see a benefit to requiring two-years of service where the draftees could opt for non-combat duty. Even in two years they would gain a new appreciation for how the military works and, to some extent, who the warfighters really are; and the military would also benefit from the increased diversity of background and perspective.

While you offer some good points, I am still ultimately against it for two reasons. The first reason is an ideological reason since I don't believe in conscription (unless our liberties were genuinely being threatened. Then I may sacrifice my ideology for practically). The second reason is that it is not practical. I could be wrong, but there are not enough non-combative jobs to be filled that require conscription. Therefore, the only to make conscription for non-combative roles feasible is to expand the government and create a bigger bureaucracy.

Perhaps single and able-bodied people who are on welfare should be required to do something like this. Even then, those people are far and few and these people have terrible skills that it may jeopardize the military.

That's not the issue. Even if you believed in the cause and thought that war would be the best course of action, you still would cripple yourself to avoiding going over there. It's just cowardice. It doesn't have to be more complicated than that.

The safety of my family and myself always comes first. If I felt the only way to do that was to fight in the military I absolutely would. But chances are I'd collect my family and drive as far away from the war as possible.

You may call that cowardice if you want. I call it intelligence. I intend to live as long as possible. And war tends to shorten your lifespan.

That's a good plan unless you get caught. If you get caught you might be treated the same way a horse thief was treated long ago.

Thats the problem isn't it ,everyone other than a tiny group of capitialist families ,billionaires own the country.the great mass of every NATIONAL Population owns bugger all of the country .

Sacrifices of the rich ,whats that?

Go ahead get the tearepublicans and the democrats move to Conscription ,the political Radicalisation of the 99%,who don't own oil Company's or who are not heroine dealers .[oil companies =iraq, heroine dealers=Afghanistan.]

yes ,its a gret idea to arm the masses of workers who will be armed with the most advance military weaponary,go right ahead serves my purposes.

but ,much more serving of my purposes ,would be a Socialist revolution developing out of a Mass anti-War movement .thus bypassing a protracted political and possibily unecessary campaign to recruit Soldier workers.

I like masses of soldier workers pissed off with their government.

either way the Government of the present form is finished,it just dosen't know it,like the emporer with no clothes we all see it as it is ,not how they want us to them.

Here we go. One guy snaps and suddenly the whole army is crazy.

There is a very simple explanation for why the chain of command wasn't aware of this guy's problem. Military culture is hard on those who confess to being anything less than 100% gung ho. It's gotten better, but if the military sent a guy home every time someone said they weren't 100% mentally, guess how many soldiers they'd be left with. Not many.

I agree with the OP. If America declares a war, the draft should be automatically reinstated. Yes, the rich kids will still find ways to avoid actual combat, but sending rich kids isn't the point. The point is that everyone who has a loved one eligible for the draft is gonna start PAYING ATTENTION to what the hell is going on in washington and start SPEAKING UP. The biggest problem in this country is NOT our government, but rather the complete apathy which pervades the majority of the American population.
