I partially agree (in that there were various factors that led to this, & the officer clearly bears the brunt of the blame), except I don't think the citizen's running can justify the pronouncement that his death is his own fault (had he been roughed up, in a struggle, one could say that he'd brought it on, himself). My indictment about the training, in answer to your blaming only the individual officer, is my feeling that, before they graduated this person, it doesn't seem, to me-- but I'll welcome your explanation, if I'm wrong-- that it would have been too hard to verify, or too much to expect, that every graduate is as familiar with the location & feel of all of their weapons so that mixing them up would be the equivalent of a person saying, "I meant to punch the suspect, but I used my leg, by mistake, & kicked him."

Maybe you should tell us exactly what YOU saw when you were there, so we can understand the issue. I just watched the vid, had she actually used the tazer that would have been perfectly acceptable.

It's amazing to me how many people on the left thinks it gives them the right to burn and loot!

It is amazing to me how many people thinks it gives them the right to burn and loot, regardless of their political lean.

Still does not change how many supposed "freedoms are everything" people think that Comply or Die is a good thing.

I am not justifying his death for being a complete dumb***, I am saying what he did certainly lead to it. We can play the "what if" game all day, but he initiated this incorrect response.

Why is it black people act like lunatics during police encounters more than anyone else? I don't know, but I have seen it. As far as I'm concerned the fact that we allow people who cannot physically do the job or mentally handle the stresses ( diversity hires for quotas) IS the real issue. We don't need diversity we need quality- no matter what the race or sex. On that topic a lot of woman get put into other assignments just to avoid these kinds of issues, when they get in a patrol car the problems can escalate.

I T-P'd as well. It was very fun. We weren't felons. One night my buddy got caught and another friend and I hid under a parked car. We could have touched the officers shoes as they walked by! You absolutely lie when you say in my view we would have been shot. Had an officer told me to freeze and keep my hands upI= I might have asked how high do you want them. Try something else. We respected the police. Perhaps you think being an American you should have disdain for them.

Oh....like in the Western pictures? Yes, and the officer should always just shoot them in the gun hand. I got that one!

Seems like there are a lot of sissy boys out there that can’t handle themselves either.

It's not as cut and dry as you may believe. In the heat of the moment or in tense situations like this it is very possible to make a mistake like that even as one with experience. One of the ways to mitigate that is to keep items of similar feel on different parts of the body so that when that muscle memory kicks in you lessen the chance of accidentally grabbing the wrong one.

You tell the hiring board that. It's not like we wanted people who couldn't carry their own weight back then. It makes more work for everyone else. Of course, when you have some entitled lunatic who is threatening the officers or looking for a lawsuit handout, what do you think is gonna happen? Ghetto lottery winners.

A couple times they told us to freeze and we ran because we knew they could not catch us on foot. The only time we did not run was the one time we heard the police dog bark! We knew our limits. We parked our car more than a mile away, knowing we could lose anyone in that distance. We were pretty fearless for a bunch of 150 pound kids!

Your view was that breaking from the cop and running means there is a good chance of getting shot, your words. Should the cop have shot at us?

I do not have disdain for all police, just the ones that abuse their position.

They ought to shoot with two guns blazing and the reigns in their teeth like John Wayne in True Grit....”Fill your hands you son of a bitch”....Todays policemen are a bunch of sissies...Like Derek Chauvin

Damn, you should have gotten some female Marines then, they know how to handle their weapons.

Were you doing that when you were 20? Was a car, (a possibly deadly weapon) involved? Did you have prior criminal records that involved guns? See, I think there is a difference.

    Why do so many
    Black men have to

make a Federal case out of a traffic stop?

I heard one report that an officer's gun should be located on the dominant side of the body and the tazer on the opposite side ie right handed officers should keep their guns on their right side of the body

They seem to feel entitled. Sort of like reparation.

Unlike the other officers shootings I'm more inclined to side with the police in this event. It was a terrible accident that will haunt the officer for the rest of her life. The victim should not have tried to escape

    I cannot argue with that.

There are definitely women who can handle their weapons, and some women who are solid BJJ/MT students at my mma school. Sadly, these requirements do not exist and people will sue to get a job they should never have.

Yeah I'm not sure if there is any sort of standard protocol for placement or if it's up to the individual. If there isn't some sort of department wide standard then I'm sure there will likely be after this. This was a terrible situation but one that to me looks like a genuine accident.

And the criminals come out to loot and destroy people's businesses, jobs and commerce. What will happen to those looters and arsonists? Hmmm??? I wonder what the criminal in the car was doing that required the officer to try and reach for her taser? Did anyone see the police officer in New Mexico who stopped someone on the highway and the driver got out hiding an AR-15 and killed the officer? Anyone rioting over this? Any coverage on CNN? 42 suicides by police officers over the past year. Any news on that? How about the 96 that were shot and killed in the line of duty? Any riots over that?

That sounds like it would be an awesome story from the perp's perspective.

During the press conference, Chief Gannon said, "we train with our handguns on our dominant side and our taser on our weak side". And as I understand it, that's a pretty standard setup in many departments across the country.
