@alexa Jehova witness faced persecutions because of the nazis during the 30's because they refused to enlist in the army. Even if I disagree with them, I kind of admire sects of christianity like Jehovah witness, amish and the thoughts of ML King.

The like of Freshair stop there, I edited the message then and add content which with freshair maybe doesn't agree :

Edit : Jesus and Muhammed had two opposite strategies. If I remember well a crusader lord and a cheikh had that debate during the crusades. Christianity is extremly idealistic if yo uconsider what says Jesus Christ, "love your ennemy". Muhammed seems to have more seeked to codify violence and the dark aspects of societies. That's two opposite view on a problem but that make Islam a very stiff religion. Muslim countries where among the last one to abolish slavery, because Muhammed practiced slavery, and they never considered you could go beyon him.
About violence of christianity, I'm sometimes shocked of some similiarities for instance between slavery and exploitation of poor workers in some very poor countries. The vast majority of french population never worked for slavers during slavery time, the vast majority of french population never met a slave or a black individual. Slavery was forbidden in the french mainland, and slavery was ill considered. Slavery could happen because it was far away, caraibs was almost like work camps for slave like internship camps during WW2. Most people knew they existed but nobody knew what was happening exactly it.

But isn't it that different that when we buy extremly cheap clothes to people which get poisonned in horrible factories at the other side of the world ?

It's very easy for people today to condemn white people of the past for slavery when today, people of every colours do not much better.

You missed where I said that not all Christians follow the Old Testament. There are several other Christian Groups who are the same. It would probably be true to say that Jesus was nearer a Gandhi. There is a massive difference between Christians who follow the Old testament and those who do not just like there is a massive difference between current Progressive Christians and Right/Far Right Christians. They are not comparable just like Wahhabism is not comparable with suffism, Traditional Islam and other branches of Islam. They are as different as night is to day. I am sorry you missed that that is what I was saying.

@alexa I was not saying you were wrong. I edited my message since because I wanted to avoid to do some multiple posts.

Nice attempt at moral equivalency, but major fail. This guy didn't kill his family in the name of his religion. And what's with the "out of Florida" comment? The story, murder, and arrest all took place in Canada.

I agree with you... but... if a Muslim did that to their family, some would blame the religion? so it's good to point out.. may open some people to their own biases

Crimes like that occur in all religions... none are exempt

There is obviously a serie of religion motivated murder, there is imam which preach to kill jihad and there is a general trend among "french" muslims to consider non muslim as piece of meat. No that far from where I live, there were young muslims assaulting old gaul ladies to take their money.
The fact they're gauls obviously play a role in their absence of empathy toward them.

oh there will always be people that use religion to think of others as less, that blame infidels for their God being angry at them and punishing them, that is why we had the inquisitions, ect....

actually it does, can't re-write history

when science appeared to go against the teaching of the church, the Church sought to silence it

Yes, but just to says that Islamic violence in France is far to be limited to terrorist attacks, there is an explosion of "unmotivated violence" those last times, and even if you will not see it in newspapers, we know that a lot of unmotivated violences tend concern more a "ahmed" as an agressor and a "jean-pierre" as a victim. There is a global rise of violence in France. A good example of that is the "Marin" case, a young gaul man named Marin intervened when a young man called "Yassin" assaulted a couple kissing. Yassin beat almost to death Marin. Marin survived but at what price ? He was smart and beautifull and he is now severly handicapped for life, he as epilepsy if I remember well and PTSD.
I think they don't attack too much the black christian community because they know that if they do that, they will get war.
The chinese community of Aubervilliers knew a serie of attack of the "diversity", again not an information that you can know through newspaper as french law forbid ethnic and religious censing.

That's not impossible that the gauls will be tired one day to get their family attacked like that.

Maybe, if he did it in the name of "honor". Very sad story on 20/20 years ago discussed a Muslim girl who had become so entirely Americanized that she came home and excitedly told her father that she'd gotten a job at McDonald's and he told her she had brought shame on the family and killed her.

Violence occurs in all religions, but Islam is particularly noteworthy for it. It's the only religion that actually calls for killing people who disagree with the religion.

The inquisitions were a product of Catholicism. Christianity brought them to an end. Christianity continues to thrive while inquisitions have not.

    Catholics are Christians

Christians have a history of violence too, that is just fact

and of course Christianity could survive without violence as can Judaism and Muslimism..... will they always be non-violent from this point forward ... time will tell

That would be a long debate but the story of the inquisition is more measured than that. Even if all my ancestors starting from my grand parents are catholic, I'm not. The inquisition killed not that many people, most death was because of angry mob. There is document showing that only around 10 % of people judged by the inquisition were executed. It's very far of the inquisition sentencing everybody to death picture we have in movies. I think that if I had the choice between the angry mob and the inquisition, I would choose the inquisition by far. But let's go back to the topic or open a new thread.

It's Europe's only chance of survival. Otherwise, the predictions of "Eurabia" will become true sooner rather than later.

Europe is a bomb from an economical, morale or ethnic point of view right now. Every factor worsening that. It's important to consider that black christian, black muslims and arabic muslims doesn't appreciate each other. So it will be more complexe than eurabia anyway.

    http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/

    America is

    70% Christian with Catholics

    49% Christian without counting Catholics

It's pretty much the same with sunni muslims doesn't considering shia muslims as true muslims or sufis as not true muslims, or jihadists as true muslim and so on.
That's a classical sophism that I know under the name of the "true scotman".

Step 1 : Have a narrow definition of something, Step 2 : define everything that should obviously fit in the definition of the word as not a true one.

I'm not the one well versed in this, but another can speak of the differences.

There is much in the Catholic religion that is not in Christian text.
Invented solely by the Catholics to increase their power over the masses.

I think most of this started with Martin Luther.
The church could kill you as a heretic, it had a lot of power,
but the Protestant movement was too strong.
Then Henry the 8th, broke away and started the Church of England.
all, or most, the sects seemed to come from these.

Many consider Catholics to be Satanic.
