Well said... genetic predispositions to diseases are almost always based on a geographic region that you come from, rather than the color of your skin...

Which is why, presumably, so many people from the US display all the signs of very unpleasant madness.

If it's not directly related to the body structure or racial pros or cons -- for example, black people typically have a harder time swimming because of their bone density -- then I think it's unfair to group the entire race as one and determine if the races are "equal." You could take a various number of things -- say economic qualities. If you take the average salary of all black people and compared it to the average salary of all white people, the average salary of white people would be higher. Of course, plenty of black people are vastly more rich than many white people. If you're talking about abilities, leaving out unimportant things, again, it all depends on the individual. Some people are handicapped, making it much harder for them to get into a lot of types of work. Some people are not very intelligent, making opportunities not as good for them. I don't know the statistics of what percentage of black people are handicapped versus the percentage of white people who are handicapped, and I think taking such statistics and applying them to both races as wholes would be an unfair assessment.

In the end, the "comparison" (between Black and White 'strengths' and 'weaknesses') isn't truly worth the effort or time it takes accomplish. Exceptions and similarities ABOUND. We're talking about people (human beings). Better to simply study CULTURE, rather than attempt to pick-out who might be 'superior'.

The best of ALL people, is what we should be striving to spotlight and engender. And anyone who seeks to separate human beings via things such as "race" or "economic status", are likely a part of the problems which plague this world... not the solutions to the same.

Is salary an important consideration in equality?

True enough.... in the world of trivia questions, one that is commonly asked is on which island in the world are the most languages spoken? I think the official answer is Papua New Ginea. Because that is an official country.

I would wager that the REAL answer to that one is proably the island of Manhattan in NYC, although that would probably be hard to prove. I would think with the United Nations there, and the seriously diverse immigrant population it is true....

In the end, I do not think it is possible for all people to be equal, all of us have different strengths and weaknesses..I think the better question is do we all deserve equal rights, the answer is yes....

I don't think equality is an important consideration. The important consideration, like flounder said, is equal rights. People should not be denied equal rights based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

No. No two humans are equal. Some can run faster, smarter, stronger, taller, more attractive.... Ect, ect.. Until we can accept that everyone is not equal, we will always cator to the lowest denominator out of political correctness.

All races are genetically equal in intelligence and personality. Any perceived differences are due to environmental variables.

I interpreted the question as "Is there currently equality and fairness between the two?" to which I answer "No".

Why do we say that all individuals are equal? Well, one theory (of Thomas Hobbes) goes that that's because all (non-vegetable) individuals have, at some level of their potentiality, the capacity to end the life of any other. If we all have the capacity to end the lives of a person, we all have the capacity to render all other characteristics of a person void and meaningless. Therefore, the capacity to kill any other person is the super-ceding most fundamental characteristic of human existence, a super-ceding virtual infinite to all individual's collection of power points.

It is common knowledge to say " we are all equal, we are one kind ". Yes, we are all human beings, that said, there are different groups wich actually have some differences, and that's not only the skin color, it' s a more complex matter, and involves psychology, different view of the self, and that's very true, because one's physical features and appearence are determinant at how one will see himself and other people. There are probably small differences even in brain patterns depending on which group we fall in, but of course all those characteristical group differences tend to plain themselves in a situation of melting pot.

So what can i say, are we equal, are we not? I'd say we are actually a little different, but those difference will eventually disappear over time if groups will melt each other. I dont' know exactly what the result will be, someone even said that black genes are predominant over others, so by melting each other we will end up being all blacks? Hmmm... are there some expert genetic scientists over there? I would like to have an explanation on this.

Don't forget that equal is not being used in a scientific meaning. It is being used to highlight the concepts of equal under the law and equal cultural value.

Sure they are. There are the Cryps, the Bloods, the Arian Brotherhood, etc. Point being that I have friends, close friends, of both. I have also had the misfortune to have dealt with the very worst of them. It's like a Christmas gift. You really don't know whether there's anything good inside till you get past the wrapping.
    Enjoy!

I would prefer not to think in terms of races but in terms of individuals. Compare any two individuals to each other and you will find that no two persons are equal to each other. Starting with the premise that you can determine which person is better at .. well anything.. simply by looking at their race is precisely what racism is. If you are comparing Joe the Plumber to Dr. Ben Carson, you can objectively determine that the Doctor is better (much better) at medicine. Additionally, the Doctor is better for reasons way beyond any genetics (he CHOOSES to obtain knowledge, to increase his skill at being a surgeon).

I know right? He had it made into a plaque and mounted in all the Slave quarters on his Plantation, so they would be reminded every day that they are equal.

    Based on what criteria?

That is why mainstream science has abandoned the idea of race. because there are no clearly demarcated groups of humans. Fringe cross-breeding of human population has blurred the lines so much that you cannot tell exactly where one group ends and another begins. It is completely arbitrary.

Not exactly, humans are much or less all cross breeded but still there are groups who are fairly distinguishable. You take a nord european man with long nordic heritage, you take a black man with long african heritage, do you think they share a lot of genes? Of course they are both human beings, but there are indeed some differences, and i'm not talking only about skin colour, say physical shape, resistance to different diseases... different attitudes too, why not?
