Since race is a disproven concept, I voted yes.

You cannot say one race is superior to another as we are all apart of the human race. There is no other human race but the one we now have.

Basically the question itself is a bit off.

Are apples superior to apples? That's what your question amounts to IMO.

Sorry for nitpicking, but you could ask whether Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples are superior.
Since the two are mutually exclusive groups with different properties, one could claim one to be superior to the other, at least in certain contexts.

I mean really black people are superior at avoiding the problems of sun overexposure and white people are superior at absorbing Vitamin D. That's why the different pigment levels evolved.

Of course, in modern times, those differences are relatively pointless. And enough interbreeding between various human groups exists as to ensure a mix of all kinds of traits.

The idiocy of racism is the assumption that pigment (the only trait mutually exclusive between races as we construct them) is causally related to perceived maladies.
In the case of Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples, racism is like saying that Granny Smiths are more bruised and worm-infested (rather than the true and unremarkable statement that they are more sour in flavor).

Some golden delicious apples are sweet and some are not. Some granny smith apples are sour and some are not. So even within the same group, you have great variations.
Some black people are extremely light and burn just as frequently as some any white person.

My point, the concept of race is a fabrication, nothing more. A black albino is no less a black person because their skin has very little melanin... but why not? Wouldn't that by definition make them white? Why don't we have a measuring gauge that once someone crossing a particular threshold, they are deemed a part of the other group? I guess that would mean attributing "white" goes further than skin color. If so, then the concept of white or black is completely arbitrary.

Race is more like saying granny smith apples are better than granny smith apples as there are variations even amongst granny smith applies. It down to comparing the stems and saying that's what determines the value of the apple.

Having made that statement with such vehemence begs the question, do you?

    Curses.
Defeated by my lack of botany knowledge!

We're not in disagreement about race being a construction.
But keep in mind that race is not actually constructed around genetics but appearance.

So for all intents and purposes, a black person with light enough skin will not be recognized as black, so long as he/she is not put in the context of family.
It's the appearance of race that creates the repercussions.

So I'd argue that in some cases, light-skinned people of black descent are not black.
This demonstrates, of course, what you're saying: race is a construct.

    I'll accept that.

How many churches have you attended? Your statement would have sounded more neutral if you said blacks AND whites won't go to an all [insert race] church. That cuts both ways.

I have been a member of different churches in several different states(including HI) and they have always been multicultural, ALWAYS! I've been to a few all white and all black churches, and there is something different about those churches.

    I don't have a problem with seps as I've never ran into any of them. The thing that is offensive is when they can only see the negative in minorities, and talk about minorities as if they are animals as if they are subhuman. Then they want to turn around and make statements such as;

''I don't think we are superior'', I'm not dehimanizing them, etc. You start talking and thinking this way you will actually believe the view you create. Wasn't it in the 40's/50's when white ppl actually thought blacks had tails...hence the term porch monkey. They believed the perpetual myths.

Anyway, I agree we tend to assosciate with our own, but that transcends race, that includes class, likes, dislikes etc. If you ''purposefully'' go out of your way to avoid another race, and join groups that bash minorities all day long, then you are living in your own customized prison, IMHOP. Life's too short for all that!

My grandmother is/was capable of passing for white, but she's not white. Appearance takes a backseat to the social construct. No matter how white you look, once proof is found that someone in your family line is not white, you're black.

LOL, I'm sure we're on the same wavelength, but it was fun to hash over how ridiculous all of this actually is.

The fact that you actually believe that black people have IQs similar to a monkey tells me all I need to know about your own IQ.

This is why society ignores you people and why you have no power.

How did you determine who belongs to what race? If you cant define the exact characteristics of a race, how can you say anyone belongs to it?

Gee, I don't know, I suppose when I match my White face up against the black face of al sharpton, I kinda get the feeling that making the distinction between our two races comes rather easily. :omg:

I would like to point out that this is based in law, and not by inherent traits of the individual that they are born with.

What a horrible way of phrasing it.

Some definitions say that equality is to be completely indistinguishable, some say that they actually have to be the same object. In others, you have to specify to what extent they should be equal to be called equal.

Of course black people are not equal to white people, just have a look at them, some reflect more light than others. But are they dissimilar enough to be treated differently? I assume that's what the question really is.

There I'd have to say no (or yes if you follow the wording of the OP). I know it sucks to be treated worse than someone else for no reason. That's not a fate I would like to give to anyone and to give it to those who already are treated worse than most, it seems next to sadistic.

Sure, there are statistics that point one way or another, but when you treat Avicenna as less than Larry the Cable guy, your views are based on your own bias and not on any logic.

    LOL!

Which one of these people is black based only on skin tone.

Your criteria are retarded. So are the people who embrace your ideology, and this is an example of why.

Incorrect. No one is equal to anyone else. I reject the premise and voted NO.

Plus there are ethnic characteristics in every classification that illustrate there are differences across racial/ethnic boundaries.

I'm speaking in terms of nature. In terms of the law all are equal, or should be.

My grandmother could pass for white (she was frequently mistaken for white by whites), but she was born of two black parents. By your definition that makes her white... correct?

The contrast between that statement and the Noam Chomsky quote in your signature line is hilarious!

Pick one view and stick with it my radicalized and confused Irish friend!

Although you did give me a good laugh.

No. What's with you people here who can't simply read what's in front of your eyes without extrapolating into strange inquiries wholly disconnected from anything I said?

I'm not classifying who fits into what group. But any doctor will tell you if she has negro blood she is far more susceptible to sickle cell anemia than any other person who looks white, but was born of anglo parentage. The color doesn't matter but evidently the race does.

Now attack me for using the proper word "negro", and attack me for even daring to say SSA is a black disease.

    You are correct, Swensson.

We know from the history of man that black people were here long before white people appeared on the scene.

Perhaps the real question should be, "Are white people and black people equal?" since black people were here first.

I agree. It's kind of a silly question.

    This is true.

Nope, I agree with everything you said there.

Nope! To all those questions. So far as I'm aware, ethnicity plays no part in brain activity of any sort.

    I concur!

WTF is negro blood?! LOL... sorry, but that's ridiculous. Blood is blood. If you blood type is O, race is competely irrelevant. It's not like you can have negro O blood type. LOL!

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder, you can't be susceptible to it. You either have it or you don't.
