Do you think the crime of letting their cows eat grass for free warrants that kind of reaction?

    Taxcutter says:
A US Marshal with a court order would have sufficed.

A court ordered Holder to hand over documents? Link please.

If you're talking about his dispute with the House, then you'll know that dispute is entirely political, not legal. The House wants Holder to turn over "internal deliberation" documents related to Fast And Furious. Holder has pointed out, correctly, that such documents have a long history of being covered by executive privilege. He has also argued that some of Issa's requests are outside the scope of the subpoenas they accuse Holder of ignoring.

The House, in response, voted to hold him in contempt along party lines -- the first time in history a sitting Cabinet member has been held in contempt of Congress. That's a first step toward trying to have a court overrule Holder's assertion of privilege -- but no court has so ruled, nor does it appear likely to happen any time soon.

A primer on privilege as it applies to this case:
    http://www.propublica.org/article/the-facts-behind-obamas-executive-privilege-claim

Thus your attempt at false equivalency fails.

Sharpton is under investigation by a U.S. attorney, has been attempting to pay off the debt, and is in negotiations with the government over the debt. The IRS slapped him with liens in recent years.

Contrast that with Bundy, who simply ignores court orders and refuses to recognize federal authority.

Thanks, It is a good thing when people w/ differing opinions can discuss matters in a reasonable and productive way.
I do not like government overreach and bullying any more than most thoughtful folks.
I just do not think that this is the case here.
This guy is ranting about "Negroes" on welfare, while all the time he has been freeloading off of the federal government for over twenty years.
If anything the feds have been patient and have been showing restraint.
They pursued this matter through the courts and prevailed.
The armed agents were brought in only after Bundy started making veiled threats.
They backed off when it started to look ugly.
I am glad that no one has been killed over this so far.
But we all do have to abide by the rule of law.
There is an old saying that goes "Choose your battles wisely".
I believe that it applies well in this case.
    Cheers

A lien would not get the cattle off the land.

    "Was probably"?

Regardless of the rationalizations you come up with, what is the BLM supposed to do when they want to remove cattle owned by a guy who has vowed to defend himself with his arsenal of guns? Should they just drive in unprotected and see if he really meant it?

    - - - Updated - - -

Want to say the BLM move was excessive? Fine, have that discussion. But treating Bundy like a patriot and a victim is bat(*)(*)(*)(*) crazy.

His views on race have no relevance whatsoever to the justness of his land claim.

It's time American political debate ignores the far right. They are not the future.

Right. Because Bundy has shown his willingness to comply with all those *other* court orders over the last 20 years.... :eyeroll:

First off this comes as no surprise at all. That said, it really has nothing to do with the issue of him not paying his grazing fees and refusing to remove his cattle for government owned land, the only thing his statements are good for are as further information on the guys character, or should we say lack of character. I doubt it will change one hardcore rightwinger, once they take a side on an issue they are not capable of changing their mind and admitting that they were wrong to support a deadbeat.

That is because Texans won their land rights by taking them from Mexico in 1836.

Sure, just like we're supposed to ignore what David Duke said about race, so we can talk about his tax cut plan.

    Heard that one DECADES ago.

That goes for the "progressive" Left, as well.

"Nature has given to every man the right to the enjoyment of an equal share in all property"

That was written by François-Noël Babeuf in 1796. Progs haven't had an original idea in 218 years - they are the past, not the future. ;)

"Texicans" wanted to keep their slaves, after Mexico had outlawed slavery....that was the real reason for the Texan Revolution. Not the b.s. John Wayne version of history from 1960.

They have nothing to do with each other. Bundy could be the biggest, racist piece of crap on the planet and it wouldn't change the legitmacy of his claims to the land one iota.

    Bundy said nothing racist.

The fact is that libs claim a monopoly on racial topics that conservatives simply to not recognize.

The only constitutional authority the general ( federal ) government has, is what the creating states gave it, and legally can take back.

No, I do NOT defend those statements.

BUT you know what? Cliven Bundy isn't running for any kind of an office either. You've got two very high up Democrat leaders whom I would imagine you support; namely Joe Biden and Harry Reid, who have BOTH made racist statements and yet DEMOCRATS put them in office and defending them? Care to apologize for supporting them? Care to apologize for helping put people like that in office? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. See below for a review of what the two said publically during the 2008 campaign:

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed during the 2008 campaign that a “light-skinned” Barack Obama spoke with “no Negro dialect.” Joe Biden, himself a candidate in that election, said of Obama that he was the “first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean.”

Care to comment as to why Dems would vote to put two apparent racists in high offices? Sounds like a double standard to me. .....since Dems voted to put two Dems in office who were "caught being racists" too.

Sometimes I think that if we didn't have deflection and false equivalencies, these threads would be only 10% as long.

All I get from this is that you have absolutely no idea what is really at stake here. None. Which, incidently, is not surpriseing for Obama voters that have forgotten what liberty and freedom is. I also note that leftists are not outraged by Odunber's racist comments about white people. Take this false duplicitous outrage someplace else.

These America hating progressive leftists accuse others of racism as cover for their own racism and pretend they have taken the moral high ground. And people are STUPID enough to believe that.
