Hillary is a pathological woman who conned this country many times with foreign influence. If Trump's character flaws disqualify him as president, Hillary's also disqualify her. So get me a different president.

Ahem... We don't use that metric for the sole purpose that 48 other states don't need CA and NY making our decision. That's the whole reason the winner of each state gets a certain number of electorates. The path is groomed and clear cut for the democrat each election year but Clinton sucked so bad and spent so much time pandering to the minority instead of the working class that the democrats epically failed.

The majority of voters in the majority of states picked Trump. Thanks for the luck, I'll keep it in my pocket so we can win even bigger next time.

I doubt it since conservatives boast they never riot; only liberals would riot in the street so all will be safe.

Well, I'd be pretty upset if America voted for Trump and the electors took the election from him. Am I to assume you'd stand idly by in silence if they did the same to obama or clinton had she won?

Here's the thing, had Hillary won the election and republicans refused to hand her the presidency(in whatever way they could)and they began rioting and marching against her, I would have to take a stand against them. I truly dislike and despise Clinton but we are a nation of laws. And while I may not be or ever have been a member of the armed forces, I would play whatever role was necessary in order to defend our laws and nation.

Same with Trump, I only dislike him a little bit less then I do Clinton but I will take a stand if it came to it. We had an election. Trump won. It's not a matter of whether we like the outcome or not, it's a matter of celebrating our opportunity and freedom to cast that vote. Not every nation has that right and it's important to recognize that no matter who wins an election, we are all free.

Your statement, once again, assumes that winner-take-all for each state is the only option. Every time you say "the people chose" or "America voted," you aren't talking about a majority. You are talking about a state-by-state system that informs the electors before the electors vote, and each statement of "th people chose" and "America voted" presumes that the electors are obligated to vote in a winner-take-all fashion.

I'd say the same thing I'm saying now: it would be unwise, but the hypocritical reaction is amusing.

What would it matter? All that would do is force the election to the House, who has to choose between Hillary and Trump. Do you actually think that the reps from states Trump won are going to vote for Hillary?

The people in each state vote for the candidate of their choice. Whoever gets the most votes in all but Maine get the electoral votes. It gives all of us a voice.

If, say, California wanted Trump and gave their electoral votes to Trump even though the majority of California voted for Clinton, it would be a different story. If it's up to the 538 electors to choose who the president is, why do citizens bother voting? Why don't we just do away with all of it and let the SCOTUS vote for the president? LOL...

I had no idea there were this many routes to winning an election that your candidate lost... But leave it to America's crybabies to find every last one of them. Imagine if they'd put this much effort into Clinton's scandals instead of pushing them aside and ignoring them.

Why I remember when Dems were worried that Trump would try to contest the election results. Now, in their desperation they have marched and rioted and burned and looted in various "Not MY President" marches, beaten and threatened Trump supporters, issued death threats to Republican electors, attempted recounts in certain states that had close outcomes, are trying to suborn electors to vote opposite of their commitments, pushing fake news about Russian intelligence swinging the election, and in general behaving like sore loser children overturning the Monopoly board.

Nope. Electoral college voters were designed to be independent votes to protect the country from con men, charlatans, and foreign influence.

Alexander Hamilton described the framers' view of how electors would be chosen, "A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated [tasks]."[28] The founders assumed this would take place district by district. That plan was carried out by many states until the 1880s. For example, in Massachusetts in 1820, the rule stated "the people shall vote by ballot, on which shall be designated who is voted for as an Elector for the district."[29] In other words, the people did not place the name of a candidate for a president on the ballot, instead they voted for their local elector, whom they trusted later to cast a responsible vote for president.

Some states reasoned the favorite presidential candidate among the people in their state would have a much better chance if all of the electors selected by their state were sure to vote the same way – a "general ticket" of electors pledged to a party candidate.[30] So the slate of electors chosen by the state were no longer free agents, independent thinkers, or deliberative representatives. They became "voluntary party lackeys and intellectual non-entities."[31] Once one state took that strategy, the others felt compelled to follow suit in order to compete for the strongest influence on the election.[30]

When James Madison and Hamilton, two of the most important architects of the Electoral College, saw this strategy being taken by some states, they protested strongly. Madison and Hamilton both made it clear this approach violated the spirit of the Constitution. According to Hamilton, the selection of the president should be "made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station [of president]."[28] According to Hamilton, the electors were to analyze the list of potential presidents and select the best one. He also used the term "deliberate." Hamilton considered a pre-pledged elector to violate the spirit of Article II of the Constitution insofar as such electors could make no "analysis" or "deliberate" concerning the candidates. Madison agreed entirely, saying that when the Constitution was written, all of its authors assumed individual electors would be elected in their districts and it was inconceivable a "general ticket" of electors dictated by a state would supplant the concept. Madison wrote to George Hay,

The district mode was mostly, if not exclusively in view when the Constitution was framed and adopted; & was exchanged for the general ticket [many years later].[32]

The founders assumed electors would be elected by the citizens of his district, and that elector was to be free to analyze and deliberate regarding who is best suited to be president.

Madison and Hamilton were so upset by what they saw as a distortion of the framers’ original intent, they advocated for a constitutional amendment to prevent anything other than the district plan: "the election of Presidential Electors by districts, is an amendment very proper to be brought forward," Madison told George Hay in 1823.[32] Hamilton went further. He actually drafted an amendment to the Constitution mandating the district plan for selecting electors.[33]

What I see is the highly populated areas of our country(California and New York). I mean let's face it, Trump wasn't winning either of those states. All 3 million of those votes counted, in their states. When 30 states don't vote for you, they continue to keep republicans in congress, the senate, and state legislatures and governorships throughout the country, I'd say there is a mandate.

So your position is that people in populace states who don't support your position should get to vote?

No mandate when you get 3 million votes less than your opponent.

It's so what to you because you think the popular vote matters.

Nationwide vote: 30 states to trump, 20 to Clinton.
