Solar costs dropped more than 70% over the last decade, and Biden wants to accelerate the trend

Solar power in the U.S. has grown 4,000% percent over the last decade, but it still only accounts for 3% of electricity generation. The Biden Administration wants to change that, and on Tuesday said that solar could provide 40% of the country’s electricity by 2035 — if the government enacts supportive policies.

In order to meet this target, the Department of Energy said that solar’s growth rate will need to triple — or even quadruple — by 2030. That means costs will have to keep dropping.

The total cost of a solar system depends on variables including size, whether it’s purchased outright or leased and power prices in the specific location. Solar’s levelized cost of energy, which allows it to be compared to other forms of power generation, has fallen more than 70% over the last decade. But costs will need to continue to decline to meet these growth goals.

If true, dont blame it on man. Man made CO2 in the atmosphere in a year is only 7 parts in a MILLION. Look elsewhere.

The US has achieved the steepest emissions reduction in the world thanks to natural gas.

Hurricanes have effected TN before. This one shattered the rainfall record, consistent with the trend of more severe weather around the world caused by global warming.

A slow moving one can dump ridiculous amounts, a fast one (like Charley in 2004) very little, though the winds tore up this place.

Yes, but this is just one more example of the global trend towards more severe weather.

A hurricane is nothing new. Some years are more active than others. Just about the time climate alarmist say "See? Look at all these hurricanes".....The a period of relative silence for some years comes along.

Take the 2004 season in Florida, Charley was devestating, followed by at least 3 more major ones, right on it's tail. The alarmist were certain it was the "new normal" and well....to "get used to it".....Then a good solid decade went by with no major landfalls of concern.

    It's cyclical, always has been.

Extreme weather events are pushing consumers to solar and residential storage

Extreme weather events across the U.S. — from wildfires and drought in the West, to deep freezes and floods in the South and Southeast — have disrupted the electric grid this year. As a result, homeowners are buying solar and energy storage systems at rates never before seen, according to data from solar website SolarReviews.com.

As California faces devastating wildfires and record drought, the website saw a 358% year-over-year jump in solar estimate quotes requested by California residents between June 30 and Aug. 6.

The state has also faced numerous power outages over the past year. PG&E has cut the power on several occasions when dry conditions and high winds increase the risk of sparking a fire. The state has also had trouble on the power supply side, and the California Independent System Operator has issued flex alerts, calling on customers to cut usage when demand is expected to peak. In some cases, rolling blackouts have taken place when power availability comes up short.

That's why California has run up the white flag and commissioned five new natural gas-powered generating plants.
