Hi Dr who - Sorry for the late reply mate. You're correct, i do not live in the US, i'm from the UK. I'm not part of the crowd who think you shouldn't own guns and i never will be. I'm not interested in the rights and wrongs of owning guns but i am interested in the reasons be they historical or modern. I get the original reason for being armed but wondered how the early reasons are reflected in modern times. Obviously everyone has their own reason for owning guns and this could differ depending on where people live but I've always been struck with the idea that many americans seem to like guns as much as a hobby as they do have them for protection only - Is this correct to any degree? Surely the thing about a gun is that you need to be holding it for it to provide any sense of protection? Or am i wrong on that? Please forgive me if i come across as just another clueless brit but we do have a morbid fascination when it comes to America and guns. The blanket view in the UK is that Americans should give up guns but i think that's a ludicrous idea based upon our relationship with guns. Just looking for some opinions to help me see beyond the headines. Cheers.
He reminds me of a guy that was a heavy smoker that said the same destiny crapola, he died early from lung cancer & heart disease. Sure, I know we are all to die at some point, I am not rushing it however, I do not smoke, I carry, and defend myself from armed assailants when necessary, I am not going to sit back and let bad things happen to Me, like an attack from a Rabid Animal or something similar, a Pro-Gun friend thinks My EDC is a bit much, I don't, experience has taught Me well, and I am a good student.
sadly, the only way to really educate some pillow headed pacifists is to have them experience a violent criminal attack. I have yet to meet a crime victim who was beaten, stabbed, shot or raped (and 30 years as a prosecutor I met a bunch) who was against being armed after their traumatic edification
So does that mean you are also against antibiotics and most of modern health care as well as guns? After all you have to die sometime, why delay the inevitable. Just shows your ignorance, which is part of why you are anti-gun. Mach 8 is about 9000 feet per second. A typical handgun bullet fires in the neighborhood of 1200 feet per second. A 5.56mm in the neighborhood of 3000 feet per second. (fastest commercially available round is at about 4400 feet per second).
Thats why I shoot 147 grain. Allows me to shoot a much softer shooting load, much less recoil and faster follow up shots. Its about 875 fps.
You are correct. Out of respect, can you see a bullet traveling towards you? I don't think i'd be able to. I'm not ignorant, I am just not a gun hugger nor do I care to know statistics such as that. I have better things to do with my time.
Quite to the contrary; if you don't like my answers, then you should consider not answering them back.
So if someone decides that they are going to murder you for whatever reason, you should simply accept it as being your inescapable fate, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it? And you seem to believe that the only ones who should have any say in the matter are those that intend to harm you.
Yes. Unlike many, I don't fear death. It's just part of the process that we all must face someday. If you are afraid of death, then I don't expect you to agree with me. I would make an reasonable attempt to call the police; if for nothing else in an effort to see that they get caught and answer for their crimes. Ideally they'll get caught; if not they'll answer for their transgressions to a higher authority upon their eventual death.
Since most everyone doesn't want to die at the Hands of violence, you are in the minority. We also don't want our loved ones die violent deaths either. Sounds like you are indifferent about losing members of your family to violence.
And if someone does not wish to die because they have a family to take care of, what is your advice to them?
To be fair to your family and loved ones, you should share with them that if their life was in danger, that you would make no effort to help them. Because after all, as you said... we all have to die someday.
So if a family Member is in danger of burning to death, you will not lift a finger to help them ? If a family member is suffering a heart attack, you will not call 911 ? If a Criminal attacks, you will not defend against said Criminal ??? What is more Sacred, Your viewpoint or Your Family ?
the only reason I would ever buy a gun is for protection, have never felt the need, but if I had some potential enemies I thought were a threat, I might buy one basically my fear of not having a gun would have to be greater then my fear of hurting myself if I had one... that just has not happened yet, but you never know, it could someday, unlikely, but I still want the right just in case I change my mind .
