The political union between the States is not the country. The country, America, predates the union.

Therefore, dissolving the union would not result in the dissolution of the country itself. To think otherwise is simply asinine.

Each side needs to get over themselves. We have gotten to a place where each side thinks their way is the only and 'right' way. We don't even want to listen to the other side anymore. We USED to listen to the other side. We still may not have agreed, but we listened and we didn't label them as traitors, racists, snowflakes, etc.

Just yesterday CA Supremes stepped in to keep secession off the ballot, sooner or later people will stop listening to courts that interferes with the will of the people and voting.

I'm just trying to get an idea of when exactly Americans were civil towards one another. I don't believe such a time actually existed, nor do I believe that it could exist. The US is simply too big and unwieldy for it to exist as a consolidated political entity. There has always been and will always be large factions who harbor irreconcilable differences with one another.

 

And polls show that the younger someone is, the more likely they are to support or condone secession.
