It depends on the level of escalation. If Israel's enemies all attack, a la 1967, the US will have to intervene. Obama will be told that we will back Israel. Huge ramifications for the Democrats if we do nothing. Those in-the-pocket Jewish votes will leave the party as well as millions of pro-Israel Democrats. The President can hold whatever opinions he have. He can even harbor disrespect. But when the chips are all-in, he'll be forced by his cabinet to back Israel's play.
