Why are Biblical scripture treated as a vague text?

  1. Because it is what it is

I think the problem is we do not expect a god to be like that too, that is why it seems to be written by men, not a god

killing everyone but a boat load of people and then gave us a rainbow to say sorry, wont do it again? doesn't make sense and science doesn't agree that rainbows did not exist prior to a flood

but it does sound like something man would say pre-knowing the truth

Bible is the holy bible. Sanctity came, and only belongs to God. If you want to understand it, be a saint. Because God is always close to the sanctity

Those who can not understand the texts have closed their hearts to the Lord. Those who think everything is open to interpretation are serving another lord.

A convenient excuse for your God. May be omnipotent, but cannot create a book that cannot be denied, right... Oh wait, that basically defeats the definition of omnipotent.

That is why men (pagans) invented there gods because the real God is not like them. Men's god can't and don't tell them that they should love there enemy. Pagan gods don't tell them to honor their mother and father and that children should obey their parents, because by nature people do not like to do those things.

If you read that part of the Bible you would see why He did it. I fail to understand how you skeptics are so hung up on a book you'll don't believe. What does it matter to you that we believe it? It’s not as if the Bible was written for you.

Do you want God to make you believe against your free will? But I don't got the idea that God is trying to convince people to believe. The Bible was not written to convince unbelievers, it was written for His people, whom God is actively and personally working with.

And then of course Jesus tells us we must hate our mother and siblings and follow Him.
It really is a fun book. Messes everybody up.

I thought about explaining what Jesus meant....but....it would be a waste of time so I won't bother.

I know exactly what he meant, but it doesn't dovetail well with "honor thy mother and father", does it?

Jesus did spend a lot of time fishing and partying. I got the references.

Boy this is why the Bible warns us about arguing over faith. Best let the fools burn than corrupt a weak Christian trying to convince the doubter of the truth.

Yes, the arguments are compelling enough to weaken those who have nothing but faith to base their beliefs on.

I would not put it like that but yes an immature Christian can cause those who may come to faith to be turned. All I have is faith but it has been tempered with time and proofs. There proofs can only be seen through faith. When one chooses to debate faith one should be prepared to present truths and have the common sense not to make things up that are not contained in the Bible.

Dinosaurs on the ARK? Nope. Why? Why are there no human bones mixed with their bones?
Oh shells on the mountains? Nope. Why? If you present this as a proof the question arises: Why are there no mammal bones on the high ground with the shells? Surely there were animals going to high ground.

Well if you read the texts you will find that there is reason to doubt the dogma of a global flood. We translate things into Globe that are not so. I submit this:
    Gen 6:1 Earth is
    1) ground, land
1a) ground (as general, tilled, yielding sustenance)
1b) piece of ground, a specific plot of land
1c) earth substance (for building or constructing)
1d) ground as earth's visible surface
    1e) land, territory, country
    1f) whole inhabited earth
    1g) city in Naphtali

    6:4 earth is defined as:
    1) land, earth
    1a) earth
1a1) whole earth (as opposed to a part)
1a2) earth (as opposed to heaven)
    1a3) earth (inhabitants)
    1b) land
    1b1) country, territory
    1b2) district, region
    1b3) tribal territory
    1b4) piece of ground
    1b5) land of Canaan, Israel
    1b6) inhabitants of land
1b7) Sheol, land without return, (under) world
    1b8) city (-state)
1c) ground, surface of the earth
    1c1) ground
    1c2) soil
    1d) (in phrases)
    1d1) people of the land
1d2) space or distance of country (in measurements of distance)
    1d3) level or plain country
    1d4) land of the living
    1d5) end(s) of the earth
1e) (almost wholly late in usage)
    1e1) lands, countries
1e1a) often in contrast to Canaan
Yet 6:20 where the animals were to be gathered from is back to:
    1) ground, land
1a) ground (as general, tilled, yielding sustenance)
1b) piece of ground, a specific plot of land
1c) earth substance (for building or constructing)
1d) ground as earth's visible surface
    1e) land, territory, country
    1f) whole inhabited earth
    1g) city in Naphtali

    On and on.

So we know scientifically that there was a flood, one big one at that. We know it was regional...

Who cares anyway? The point of the Noah writing is not a flood but about Gods dislike for wickedness. So why do immature Christian argue that the shells are proof of the flood? Because they have no faith. They have no understanding of the purpose of the texts. They still can not believe what they can not see and thus; may never see what can not be seen but has alway been there visible to all who open their hearts to it. They will not temper themselves with the wisdom that may be bestowed upon them because they are too busy trying to prove an idea. There is not really such a thing as weak faith. You have it or you do not.

It's a metaphor/parable...Yeshua is referring to if they are teaching you false doctrines and not the truth...leave their logic in the trash can. it's poison.as they should.

The basic premise of this post I agree with. What you don't recognize is that once you are looking for simply the essence of what the scriptures are saying, interpretation is inevitable and people of great faith will not come to the same conclusions. You see it in these threads all the time. Total devotion and faith in the interpretation that the believer has chosen, and inconsistent with another person of faith's conclusions. You may have faith or not, as you say, but if you do it won't necessarily lead you to the same conclusions about God.

SOme things I agree with but on others there is one interpretation and that is how it is written. The issue is people not studying the texts and spouting off what they heard at Church with no comprehension of what was really said at church.

It's quite possible to honor one's parents and not believe every little BS thing they say.

What Jesus was saying that we should love Him so much that in comparison to our parents it would seem as if we hate them. But such matters are way over the head of a skeptic. The only thing a skeptic does not question is his own beliefÂ…..the skeptic is his own godÂ…..there idol is themselves.

Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn 'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

    Matthew 10:34-37

    Pretty straight forward really.
Why so snippy and personal, sweety?

There have been people that have turned from their former religious belief in pagan gods or even other beliefs to Christianity that have caused friction and families to be divided. Even today, many Christians in some Countries that are predominantly Muslim have been murdered, even by members of their own family just because the converted to Christianity. That is what Jesus is talking about..... even in Paul's day pagans were angry at what Christianity was doing to their trade (Acts 19:21-41).

The voices of the martyrs always have stories of Christians being persecuted

What Yeshua is telling us in this verse is that he is coming back to fullfill the prophecies and Laws of GOD and set up the Kingdom of Heaven ON EARTH in righteousness, as he said he would and it will be bloodshed because Esau aka the Man of Sin aka the Son of Perdition, being led by Satan, is not going to go quietly.

This is happening now. the idealogical gaps within the families is erupting. families are split on whether to believe in GOD or be Atheists, kids are delving into witchcraft taught by their mothers at the detest of the father who may be a Christian. Muslim fathers are killing their daughters for marrying outside of their own people. False doctrines of demons
and twisting of truth is causing people to not believe in GOD or the Bible anymore.
