Sure, when in doubt take from the haves and give to the have nots, it's the liberal way. But doesn't your suggestion already take place with the far, far higher taxes the have pay compared to the have nots? And what about Obamacare? It's the same thing. And it's always corporations, it's never the actors, athletes, and musicians you guys want to steal from, it's always the corporations...the corporations that provide jobs and you have your retirement invested in.

i think in the US, freedom matters more.

people in the US should be free to eat themselves into obesity as long as their not asking the taxpayer for a handout.

the private enterprises should be allowed to make unskilled, uneducated, oppressed workers labor for slave wages, because that is freedom.

also throw in the skilled workers who are educated, all their jobs went overseas for more profits, or are here but taken by foreigners with h1b visas, also due to freedom.

It is a little more complicated than that. This isn't the 1950's, and options are limited, even if you get a degree, you could end up working fast food or convenience store. There are college grads fighting over Wallyworld positions. Give me the old days when you could choose a good job that paid well, or at least comparable to the cost of living. Those days are all but gone for many parts of the country.

I took 10th grade, and a few more courses in college. Maybe that's where I learned that wages are a cost , not a price. I just went over how costs and prices are pretty much not really connected (that's Supply and Demand determines prices, I think that was 7th grade )

How do Democrat's use taxes to subsidize workers wages? Republicans do that by permitting employers to pay wages so low that their workers qualify for public assistance but Democrats want to put that onus on the businesses, which is where I think it belongs. How do you see that as being "altruistic" btw? :confusion:

I thought conservatives were all about people being self reliant. Why do you then want me and you to subsidize businesses, (and not just small businesses all businesses, WalMart in particular). That's really rather inconsistent, IMO.

Most democrats support higher taxes on musicians and actors too...Obama raised their taxes.

And as a trump supporter you also support higher taxes...what do you think tariffs are??

It's not exactly the wages, it's wealth redistribution in general. Any time someone gets something they didn't earn then someone else had to pay for it.

I had to pay $3000 for my son's braces, his friend got his braces for free or maybe something like $100. Somebody somewhere subsidized that kid's father with a $3000 tax free wage subsidy, wages he never had to work for.

Does this mean when I order a large black coffee the kid behind the counter who thinks he should get 15 bucks an hr will stop asking me if I want cream in it?

I draw a clear distinction between people who take entry level skilled jobs because they HAVE to, versus those thinking such jobs are all they care to aspire to, so why not force society to subsidize them to a higher wage. True it is not the 50's. If it were, one would hope people would have more smarts than they do now.

Actually, it's not just the tariffs, but by making iPhones in the USA by unionized workers they'll probably wind up costing around $2,500. It's going to be a tricky balance between jobs and higher prices if we bring jobs back here, I mean, let's be honest, there's a reason why our stuff is made in China and Mexico and it's so Company A can compete with Company B on the price of their goods. I support Trump but I'm surprised he hasn't been called out on this, although he did touch upon it briefly last night on Hannity, and Trump said the benefit of the jobs will offset the higher prices.

    In fact, they are.

Their entire goal... everything they do... is to create and expand government dependence, particularly amongst the poor. Government dependency is a locked-in voter base. If you do it right, so there is little hope of ever escaping dependency, you'll "have those [poor folks] voting democrat for the next 200 years." Politically, that's not just smart, it's genius.... at least until it implodes and completely destroys the country.

The one's that are left had better be prepared to stay in constant motion doing the work of 3 people or they won't be employed long.

Still simplifying a much more complicated problem. We have people who don't even try to work for gainful employment, and condemning those who at least do, will just push more of them under the government dependency wing.

You want them to work for what they cannot realistically live on, and eventually they will just stop working. Just human nature.

True. But being in a grocery store can influence people to maybe grabbing some apples, or at least a fresh that night dinner (costcos pre-made bake in oven meals are friggen delicious).

As to the quality of said burgers, I unfortunately, cannot relate as White Castle is not up here. My only experience is via Harold and Kumar. They look pretty awesome though.

Never underestimate the power of artery clogging goodness.

Obesity effects everyone. Higher Medical costs, Higher Insurance Costs, Lower Productivity. Just some of the factors that others obesity effects you.

And the kind of 'freedom' you suggest doesn't exist (thankfully) in the western world.

Costs and prices aren't connected? That's hilarious, and if it was true everything would be free.

    Public assistance.

They wouldn't be on public assistance if Democrats weren't forcing taxpayers to provide it. If it's not income subsidies, its ObamaCare subsidies, on and on. If you don't like it then stop supporting it.

And the onus isn't on businesses to get people to live within their means - that's up to the individual and the choices they make with their lives. No one is forcing anybody to work a minimum wage job.

I do want people to be responsible for themselves, and providing them with handouts left and right doesn't accomplish that - it accomplishes the government dependency that Democrats encourage for their own benefit.

Bottom line, if you're making minimum wage, that's on you. There are plenty of jobs out there that pay above minimum wage, but that requires you to possess the education, skills, effort and in some cases experience to earn the higher value that you bring to a company and earn in return.

And let's cut through the bull(*)(*)(*)(*) - what Democrats want is to the ignore market value and impose artificially high wages on low-skilled jobs for their own self-aggrandizement. Instead of coming up with plans that will encourage economic growth, they come up with politically-motivated stunts like this, and there are consequences for ignoring market realities.

It means there won't be a kid there. Mass unemployment is coming and it's going to get ugly. It's not going to just be the kid behind the counter either. I saw a brick laying robot the other day. The trades have providing a good living for many Americans but i fear their days are numbered as well. Sure true craftsman will always find work but the average guy will have a hard time and those craftsman will become harder to find.

It won't just be labor either, why have 6 accounts when you can have one and a computer program. Lawyers, paralegals, doctors all will be impacted. It's been happening for some time but it's about to breakout into a full sprint to automation.

Don't get me wrong I'm prepared for the shift but a lot of people aren't. Most of my family will be devastated from the shift and they think I'm crazy for telling them to prepare. A lot of people will suffer and I hate it for them.

Grocery stores have tons of unhealthy foods.

Who says they will buy healthy foods at the grocery store?

Just remember, something has to be done about wages one way or the other. We cause our money to lose value over time, the system has to be kept up with and is not static.

We have raised minimum wage before without economic collapse, so I dont see why some people attack the minimum wage and adjustments to it. The MW is a function of the past and for our protection. I have yet to see anyone support an increase but admit this may be taking it a little to far. all or nothing right>

Another problem we have is that people are still living with the expectations we had back during the post-WWII Golden Age when much of the industrialized world lay in ruins and developing economies were in the embryonic phase. Back then, America had little competition to deal with and our economy and social programs reflected that.

Needless to say, those days are gone. The countries that were laid to waste in WWII have rebuilt their economies and industries and developing countries are adding to the competition. Add to this the automation you're talking about and we've got some serious problems facing our labor force. To make matters worse, our government acts and spends like its still the 1950s and 60s. I'm not the pessimistic type, but I don't see the halcyon days of our past in our future.

Think about it. Not sure we have many 1%'s who would agree with you, and its the goal of any capitalist business to have the lowest cost to price of the product regardless of actual value of the product. If you can take trash and sell it to people the price is directly connected to your ability to apply value to trash, picking it up may seem like a hobo thing to do but if you can manage 100 dollars a handful then you have become a capitalist who wins.

Yes, but they also have an equal amount of healthier choices. I'm not saying people won't, but I'd be a lot of people go to fast food like WC because it's easier. If they go to a grocery store, they might be more inclined to grab a bag of apples. There are whole sub-sects of psychology applied to the way Grocery stores stock foods to entice people.

    http://online.notredamecollege.edu/psychology/the-psychology-behind-a-grocery-store%E2%80%99s-layout/

Smelling produce will entice people to buy it. Same with the bakery etc..etc..

I'm not saying it's a catch-all solution, but options will help more then they hinder.

I agree, most article even point out that other industries that are not mention are going to be using automation which will take jobs like it did in the factory. Talking about minimum wage I suppose is a way to ignore those truths and assume a machine cannot do what you can. In general the higher paying the job; does not always translate to more difficult and stressful positions. They have been talking about using computers in the board room for about a decade now and have new innovations in AI every year.

I also agree to your point that draw backs will be before replacement, and will start to get heavier as it will be easier to use AI and automation like your example with the accountants. When you needed 10 you will need 2 in the future. And these are not the bottom level MW jobs I am referring to.

If you can't afford to pay enough for a burger so the person serving it doesn't have to work 3 jobs to survive then too bad.

Funny that some burger places, including McDonald's in Australia, can pay well and their world doesn't come crashing down.

Doesn't work that way. Countries with low wages are poor, plain and simply. Countries with higher wages are wealthier, plain and simply. Higher wages lift all boats.

yeah, last I recall, reheating in the wrapper or according to directions in the box, results in buns overly dried. I love those mini burgers so I experimented until finally finding out how to reheat them properly, but nothing beats eating them fresh cooked within minutes at White Castle.

Hell, since we are going with STEREOTYPES, most countries that have higher wages are homogeneous and WHITE... Name a country that has higher wages and wealthier; and are NON-homogeneous.. I can't...
