Among the foremost criteria: Australia has a population total of only 24 million. The U. S. has a population of 323 million! Australia has almost an entirely racially homogeneous population, where (guess what?) most people actually like each other. The U. S. is made of many different racial and cultural groups, nearly all of which distrust and think badly of each other. And that's just the beginning!

Based upon population, what would your mass shooting rate be? If the Aussies had to share borders with other countries, what would their crime rate be?
