When you ask for something, sure. That's called a contract.

Well now, lets look at reality. Do you want to pay that person's $500,000 for what their costs will hurt or expense the plan you are in? That is what he will cost, so why should I pay for his preexisting condition? Everyone should pay the risk that they are. You are saying the 19year olds should pay your way when you get older. I see you are a member in good standing for the Ponzi schema, let someone else pay for your lifetime of smoking, doing drugs etc.

Actually, you are on the verge of communism. Your whole idea of working together to create stable communities includes theft of private property, and that my friend, is the essence of communist twaddle.

Ya see, if you had distinguished between communities working together without lumping private property in with your communism, then you could have come out of this clean as a tin whistle. You didn't, so...

Yes, an 87 year old with cancer will give you back something, a outrageous bill to pay.

Lets get on center. What IS theft? Definition? Lets ask Golem. Golem, what is theft? Please be specific.

Theft to me is "taking anyone's duly earned or owned property without their consent by use of cohesion or force.".

You're free to get into the definition of is, but I assure you, it's not going to work. You'll end up with a bunch of questions in lieu of an easy to understand answer.

Great! Then I come out clean. Because I have not uttered a word about private property.

    Thank you for your endorsement.

You don’t understand how insurance works do you? More specifically you don’t understand how underwriting works. First off, when you pool thousands of people, someone with $500k in claims cost is insignificant. The more people, the more the risk is spread out.
Are you on an insurance plan through your employer? You have always been ‘paying’ for coworkers who smoke, do drugs, etc. That’s how insurance works. If you don’t like how insurance works you can always opt out and pay as you go. Good luck with that.

So you would just leave him to die. You're obviously well away from 87. From your comment, I would estimate that you're probably about.... 80 years away...

You were answering a question about theft of private property. I know you're not going to come right out and admit it, instead relying on nonsense like a social contract.

Don't worry. Debating lefties who don't particular care to be specific is something I'm used to. Your lack of specifics is not necessary, so long as you give me enough rope to tighten the noose, which you did.

I thought I was answering a question about Medicare.

Funny that on this thread, after your previous comment, you should use the word "nonsense" to describe anything other than your own words. Ironic, actually.

Karl Marx is usually given credit for the phrase "to each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", but it actually originated in the New Testament:
    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.atheism/eCvJc4tDVLc

Many conservatives on this forum use "communism" and "socialism" as scare tactics to gain converts to their own agenda; the truth is that ALL government institutions are socialized entities. . . . Our executive, legislative, and judicial systems, fire departments, Postal Service, public utilities, regulatory agencies, etc., etc., etc. . . . Are you in favor of privatizing these, also.

I am BY NO MEANS a socialist, as you imply. I believe that capitalism provides the incentive necessary for a nation to prosper, but it inherently fosters greed, which leads to exploitation of the less endowed. The purpose of government is to serve as an impartial mediator or to expedite services necessary to the public that have the potential to be corrupted. . . . Do you REALLY think that medical costs will stabilize THEMSELVES without SOME KIND of regulation???

Don't expect your life, liberty, and property to be defended exclusively by your Second Amendment rights without government in some ways involved. . . . And of course, I'm sure that you wouldn't refuse government assistance if your family was in dire need.

You were answering a question about medicare being funded by something other than theft, which makes the question fundamentally about theft.

but don't worry. I'm used to debating with lefties. There's always that bit of disingenuousness which is your calling card.

Insurance is based on risk, or a communistic approach when it is forced. Allow insurance companies to decide who they want for a risk, and how much they want to charge you for your specific risk plus profit. You can dilute poison in a drink, but it still kills. The insurance company decides the risk, who to take and how much each will pay based on circumstances if their (here come the word you liberals hate) CHOICE. I know how you liberals just hate that word, but choice = freedom.

Now, will you please define "theft". I did, now it is your turn Golem, or doesn't fit your vocabulary? How about others here, want to take a stab at it. I defined my interpretation, now your turns. We cannot argue this honestly without defining the word "theft".

you won't get a definition worth the price of admission to a public toilet.

Honestly, I think they're trying to play with Chamberlain because he was a lot easier to fool than Churchill. The sooner we realize that we're not dealing with honest people, the easier this upcoming battle is going to be. They've decided that lie lie is better than war war, while we're trying to gab gab.

Honesty? That flew out the window years ago.

Theft is the taking of property from unwilling victims WHEN NOTHING IS OWED. Taxes on wages are mandatory, therefore they ARE owed.

Medicare and Medicaid are funded by taxes and in some cases partially by personal contributions of the insured. . . . YOU are not actually paying medical expenses for ANYBODY; the government is.

Are the President and members of Congress stealing from us when they collect their salaries???

No, that's a commie idea. Nothing is owed if nothing is agreed to. When did taxes become agreed upon?

    ahh...

yeah well... I know you won't tell the truth.

Ya see, commies don't care about voluntarism. You guys only care about the state, and more power to the state is more power you think you can exploit.

Taxes are inherently commie. Yes, we do have to pay taxes, and that's communism. Now I know you would like to say I'm wrong, but you have to admit that according to my defintion, I am correct.

So your problem is trying to explain how the state can take something from people without being commies.

    and you can't.

The Articles of Confederation were replaced by the U.S. Constitution to enable the government to collect taxes. The 16th amendment validated federal income tax. Your citizenship, unless you revoke it, implies your acceptance of this responsibility. Refusal is subject to penalty of law.

You really don't know how insurance works. Employer based insurance has ALWAYS....as in ALWAYS, covered low and high risk members and they all seem to be making plenty of profit. You cry for these insurance companies but they are doing quite fine.
So...I'm a liberal because I understand how insurance works? Um...ok. And I have to say...it's funny for you to talk about 'choice'. Curious...are you pro-CHOICE when it comes to abortions?

Nope. Tax deductions are a way of the government allocating more benefits to people who pay taxes while making sure those same benefits do not accrue to the poor who don't pay taxes.

There does however come a point where spending does have to come under some degree of control. Hugh spending for healthcare in the last moments of life is probably not the best use of limited resources.

And I do favor doctor assisted suicide.
