Not what they were indicted for. Speaking of "Russian contacts", please answer this:

Why didn't the Clinton Campaign, which spent $MILLIONS to contact the Russians for "dirt" on Trump, somehow, need the same "protection from the Russians" as the Trump campaign allegedly did, despite NO EVIDENCE ANYWHERE, of their APPROACHING THE RUSSIANS FOR ANYTHING?

One of the many hats the chief of staff wears is liaison between congress and the whitehouse. Trump wants congress to see what congress is entitled to, and has been requesting to see. It is departments within the executive that are refusing congressional oversight and the chief executive put his foot down, Kelly was there to make sure everyone complied with trumps orders, and, of course, report back to trump.

    Of course this bothers you.

LOL! If only that was running on the news chyrons!
Congress has their own powers and don't need Trump to put his foot down or issue orders for Kelly to enforce. Congress can use their Constitutional powers of Oversight, Subpoena, and Contempt of Congress to get any information they request. There is no need for Trump to interfere. Congress is an equal power to the Presidency, and separate from the Presidency, on purpose. Trump is not king or dictator.

It should bother everyone that the President inserted his Chief of Staff and a member of his legal team into a meeting where they lacked purpose and qualifications to attend. Trump sending them to the meeting can be seen as interfering with the investigation, which is obstruction.

Speaking of leaks, where are Gowdy and Nunes this morning? Surely, if there was a huge smoking gun in that briefing, one or both of them would have been on somebodys air mentioning that, even if they couldn't mention the specifics....

That's not leaking.... strange silence there... apparently, I'm not the only one wondering...

They liars of the Obama Swamp claim they were illegally spying on the Trump campaign, for "their own protection".

We see who is COMMTTING SEDITION.

    Where have you been?

Of course there was covert surveillance by a human asset. That's how counterintelligence investigations work.

Is it your contention that when there is evidence of a foreign country tried to insert itself into an American campaign, the FBI should look the other way and let that foreign country do as it likes?

The meeting was classified. There was no embedded spy. There was no evidence of an embedded spy. Schiff stated that there was no evidence shown of the spy who didn't exist. Big surprise.

Obama didn't tap Trump's phones, and there was no embedded spy. How much tax money should we continue to spend on Trump's fantasy goose chases? On the other hand and in the meantime, the FBI wasted time and resources telling the Gang of 8 and others that there was no evidence of something Trump made up, when we have an election coming in a few months that is still vulnerable to foreign meddling, and an active investigation to the meddling that happened in the last election. Yesterday's meeting was a distraction that blew up on Nunes, because there were witnesses to contradict any foolishness he was planning, like another misleading memo. Too bad. So sad.

Oh really? Why no "COUNTER INTEL" on the Hillary campaign? I mean the Russians were a 'threat' TO BOTH, right?

You bumped your head. DOJ has been caught redacting department embarrassments under the guise of national security, also accused of stonewalling and slow walking documents to congress. Congress officially asked trump for his assistance in enabling their constitutional duty of oversight, and he complied.
No, trump is not king, but he is the chief of the executive and its the executive branch redacting, stonewalling, and slow walking. Trump, Kelly, DOJ are all part of the executive. No lines have been crossed. Trump had Kelly roll out the red carpet from the DOJ to the halls of congress. What is wrong with that?

I’m getting the idea that you actually believe there is a there there, and you want it to remain there and not here.
    Amirite?

My guess is Nunes haz a sad that he didn't get to twist things without being contradicted… again. Even worse for Nunes is there is a request to investigate how the informant's name got leaked to the press, and whether someone violated the Intelligence Identities Protection Act.

In your sentence "Of course there was covert surveillance by a human asset.", based on what we know at this point, I question the words covert and surveillance...

This is the best timeline URL I've seen of Halper's contacts so far... none of it implies "covert" or "surveillance"... note where they are meeting, conferences and clubs...

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...igation/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.66cba9862c41

    SNIP
July 11 and 12, 2016. Page meets Halper at a Cambridge conference called Race to Change the World. It is focused on “the 2016 U.S. presidential election and the implications that this will have for future U.S. foreign policy.” The two continue to communicate over email.

Sept. 15, 2016. While in London, Papadopoulos has drinks with a woman who identifies herself as Halper’s assistant. He meets Halper at the Traveler’s Club. According to the New York Times, Halper asked if Papadopoulos knew about any interference efforts, which Papadopoulos denied — to Halper’s annoyance.

Frankly, if Halper came right out and ASKED Papa DIRECTLY if he knew about any interference, he's the Maxwell Smart of government informants...

My guess as to why there was no counterintelligence investigation into Hillary's campaign is probably because the FBI didn't get intelligence from allies that Russia was trying to insert itself into her campaign, like they did with Trump. I think it's pretty obvious that Russia was working against (read that as threatening) the Clinton campaign by releasing and hyping stolen emails. What evidence is there that Russians were trying to hurt Trump? Has Trump said a bad word about Putin yet?

I dislike defending the Clinton campaign here, but this misinformation and spin has to stop. The Clinton campaign did not pay Russians. A lawyer working for the Clinton campaign continued a Fusion GPS contract originally contracted by a Republican donor in the primary. Fusion GPS contracted Steele. Steele was paid by Fusion GPS and no one but Fusion GPS. There is no evidence anywhere that the Clinton campaign approached the Russian government for dirt on Trump, because, wait for it…. they didn't approach the Russian government for dirt on Trump. The campaign paid a lawyer, that contracted Fusion GPS, who contracted Steele, a former MI6 agent, known as their foremost Russian expert.

The problem with your argument is that every single person in Trump's campaign, transition, and administration who had contact with a Russia has lied about the contact. Lying indicates a consciousness of guilt. Why lie, if they weren't doing something they knew to be wrong? There is no reason to lie if what they were doing was legal, but every single one of them lied about their Russian contact. Every.single.one.of.them. Add that to the fact that our allies were picking up information Russia was actively working with the Trump campaign, and telling our intelligence agencies about the information. When friends tell you someone is secretly trying to hurt you, certainly have probable cause to investigate what Russia was doing.

You are really worried about who was there. What is your opinion of Rosenstein not being there? He is, after all, deputy AG. Fired? Recused? Embarrassed? Laying face down in bed recovering from the butt chewing he got from trump?

    Every.single.one.of.them.

Not to mention that "our allies were picking up information Russia was actively working with the Trump campaign" from somebody IN the Trump campaign.... why would you not believe that?? (even accounting for inebriation...)

My opinion about Rosenstein not being there is you don't know what you are talking about and can be safely bypassed going forward....

He was covert, only in that he didn't tell the people he talked to that he was there at the behest of the FBI. There wasn't full disclosure, but there isn't ever full disclosure in a counterintelligence investigation. He developed a transactional relationship with those he was questioning.

The word covert doesn't imply anything sinister to me, but I understand why you would question the wording. It's the same for the word "surveil." Halper was deliberately watching and reporting what he saw and heard. To me, that's surveillance.

According to Downer, the Aussie, Papadopolous told him that Mifsud said the Russians were going to release the emails to help Trump. Later, Halper asked if Papadopolous was involved in releasing the emails, and Papa denied it saying that would be treason. So it seems he did play a Maxwell Smart, bumbling role, probably by design. This wasn't his first time being a confidential informant.

Fun fact- Halper's father-in-law was once deputy director of the CIA. He's one smart cookie too- Stanford grad and two PhDs- one from Oxford and one from Cambridge. Worked as Assistant Chief of Staff to Haig, Rumsfeld, and Cheney- so, big time Republican connections.

I'm concerned about legal propriety. We're talking about a criminal investigation into the President of the United States, after all. Nothing improper should happen concerning that investigation.

The FBI is under the DOJ, so it is appropriate for the DOJ and FBI leaders to be present in a classified briefing to Congress concerning FBI evidence.

Rosenstein hasn't been fired- that's Comey and Yates. Rosenstein isn't recused, that's Sessions. Embarrassed and laying face down? That's your own hyperbole.

The 'collusion' has always existed within the DNC, the DOJ, the FBI and the Hillary Clinton campaign. In fact this ongoing 'collusion' was why Bernie Sanders never had a chance.

Rosenstein’s status isn’t public, but it is curious to say the least that he be absent.

Well, as our dear and glorious leader says (far FAR too often), we'll wait and see....

Speaking of Rosenstein and major announcements, here's some food for thought... Interesting avenues for Rosenstein and Wray to consider should Trump continue to push his ridiculous spygate claims... I post Step 1, but there's a lot more in this article. They've gamed this out pretty far...

    SNIP
So if the leadership of the DOJ and the FBI are asked to hand over such sensitive information for what appears to be a corrupt purpose, what should they do? Don’t cooperate. Don’t resign either, because that runs the risk of someone else cooperating with a permanently damaging order.

The first step is for Rosenstein and others to be ready to file for a declaratory relief in case Trump uses their refusal as a pretext to fire them. The more that they can show that Trump’s demand was in bad faith and serving to undermine the execution of the laws, their claim for declaratory relief against their removal is strengthened. Even though declaratory relief is not as powerful as an injunction, it would still offer legal and political protection.

Guilty of what? Any criminal activities?

The FBI under Comey gave everyone related to Hillary Clinton "Immunity" but has charged anyone related to the Trump campaign with anything they could. It's not surprising that all these '100+' indictments have never gone to trial.

Since when was seeking out 'political dirt on your opponent' illegal? Are you unaware of all the 'political dirt' directed at Donald Trump???

And what does it take to be a "Russian operative"?

This doesn’t originate as trump’s demand, it originates as constitutionally directed duty of congressional oversight. This came in the form of a formal written congressional request to the president. He obliged their request. Judicial interference into constitutional congressional duty is more deep state corruption which I see you condone. Trump isn’t going to fire Rosenstein, but Rosenstein stands between Wray and the public. Wray, in my opinion, is on the side of truth and justice, Rosenstein, not so much.

Now up to a 100 indictments and not one with anything concerning Trump Russian Collusion. Which is what the left was hoping on to cure their Butt-hurt-itis.

Of course now Hillary has helped the left with about a 100 excuses as to What Happened.
