And where in the US Constitution doe it express forbid a state from seceding?

Both New York and Virginia, as a condition of accepting the Constitution, held the right to withdraw from the union. And, a right held by one state is held by all states.

Pretty good. We made obama our beyoch by making him fabricate and display a birth certificate. And now I'll bet that he wishes he was disqualified for the office with that whole Benghazi thing.
I know of four people that would still be alive if he were found to be ineligible. Though, there would probably be hundreds more still alive without his mamby-pamby handling of Afghanistan.

How's that welfare working out for you these days?

I love this conservative fantasy about how they would "prosper" without the United States, as if you could just secede without incurring military retribution. But hey, i'm all for it, considering Louisiana costs the government more in federal spending because of all it's entitlement recipients than 42 other states (it ranks 8th total). Funny how the red states, which clearly can't support themselves, are the ones that have people signing petitions to secede. I think you all should just buy an island and move there.

No, if they're that treacherous to where they would secede, let them wallow in their own misery until they can prove financial worth to the US. That would take longer than 5 years. Louisiana would be a basket case due to its corruption and astronomically low bond ratings.

Nothings going to happen; within a few weeks the passions will subside and everyone will go back to being happy campers. Most of those states would last until the first disaster hit or they got invaded by some foreign entity and they'd be craving to re-join the union.

While I disagree with welfare, it's a bit silly to make a statement like that when 15 out of the 19 states who make a net contribution to the Federal government are Democratic.

Yep, 51% of the nation doesn't work.

Getting sick of posting this, but nobody seems to pay any attention to statistics.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federa...ble_of_Federal_Taxation_and_Spending_by_State

California: +$1,466. ie: each person in California gives the other states $1,466 of their money.

True, but it paints a picture of what the founders had in mind. This quite rightly influences how I view secession.

Please, please America let the red(neck), dirt poor, not paying Federal Income tax, trailer-trash dominated, backwater conservative states seceded from the Union.

Please can we have a USA dominated by the rich, creative, economically thriving, technologically innovative, Blue States and we never have to worry about an extremist USA emerging ever again.

The new United Seceded States of America would then be an economic and political irrelevance.

The problem is those darned liberals are too soft. Their commitment to looking after their deluded science hating, superstition loving, welfare claiming, fellow Americans in the back of beyond will surely be their undoing.

All you have to do is look how New Jersey is handling the aftermath of Sandy, and then look at how the Gulf States handle the aftermath of hurricanes, to see who is capable of independent living. With the exception of New Orleans / Katrina (and NO is not only the most corrupt town in the most corrupt state, but its also completely dominated by democrats, and they build a city below sea level and on the Gulf Coast so you know they are deficient in the mental capacity arena), the Gulf states do just fine.

Turn off the power for a week and those mega-rich New Jersey elites are squeeling for the Army to take over the power companies. Babies.

New Orleans wasn't built at 30 feet below sea level because of Democrats. It was a port city for the French in the 18th century to ship goods from down the Mississippi. Most major cities across the world are built near major waterways because for millennia the preferred method of shipping goods was by ship. (Believe it or not, pirates were far less common than highwaymen and it is easier to defend a ship than defend against an army of bandits.) It was also usually good for farming, which is why all the major ancient civilizations were located almost entirely in river valleys or along the seas (Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Roman, Indus, Chinese, etc).

Barring some major exodus, these port cities and fertile areas remain major cities. Some of the largest and oldest cities in the world are located on rivers and by seas.

These must have been the people who were NOT living on their rooftops with their dog and a bag of pretzels after Hurricane Katrina. :blankstare:

the ones that ended up on rooftops were the ones who were too stupid to evacuate when told to. Of course, our democrat governor and democrat mayor let the buses flood rather than work together to save the people. Katrina was a government failure at all levels. City, state, and federal. The flooding would not have happened if the federal govt (corps or engineers) had done their job correctly in building and maintaining the levees.

Its easy for you who were not there to take shots, but for those of us who lived through it, it was a massive government failure----and the same thing is happening today in NJ and NY.

Do you think those evil rich woudl live in a country with a 40% tax rate or a 25% rate? I know all libs hate the rich, but who's going to support your welfare if/when they all leave?

Hard to evacuate if you don't have a car.

It's also hard to evacuate when 3/4ths of the city evacuates. Houston's experience with Rita was just an enormous failure, and for nothing. Rita didn't even cause rain in some parts of Houston.

And it's hard to evacuate when it's far too late. Hurricane Ike was about 27 hours away from hitting when Galveston was under 4 feet of water. The meteorologists didn't even anticipate that. Ike was as big as the Gulf of Mexico and hit as a cat 2 hurricane when it had cat 4 storm surge.

all true, but they had hundreds of buses ready to go, and thousands more could have been evacuated if Nagin and Blanco did not hate each other. Remember, Nagin supported Jindal when he ran against Blanco.

and, if the levees had held, Katrina would have just been a wind event, and who was responsible for the levees? the federal govt--corps of engineers.

    Yep, that's government inaction.

And people can't say they didn't know. FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers did a tabletop exercise and a study surrounding a category 3(?) hurricane hitting New Orleans in 2001. They said that the levees would fail and thousands would die.

After they restrict who can get government handouts, where do you think all the welfare dregs will go?
Add to that the fact that they wouldn't be restricted in drill off their own shore. Within five years their economy would probably surpass the rest of the US.

And here we have the nutjob extremeist right winger circle jerk wet dream.

Please do it. It would be hilarious to see them all tear each other apart, fall to pieces, and then starve to death within two years time.
