No, they were not. Or the Articles of Confederation never would have been fully titled "Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union" nor would the Northwest Ordinance in both iterations say that states join in perpetuity, when you join, you stay forever.

The wealthy are not stupid. They really do know that their wealth depends on the middle class and even the poor being able to support economic growth, and for that they need money, and if a meagre help from the government can help to keep the products flowing out of the warehouse, they know they benefit from that as much as the poor!

What is always surprising to me, is that the wealthy do not get sick that a big chunk of their taxes goes to worthless wars that make NO ONE but the war contractors rich, instead of their tax dollars going for INFRSTRUCTURE developments that would support their ability to be more competitive with countries like Germany who does use the higher tax money collected from their citizens to assure a good life and good safety net for ALL, AND great, forward infrastructure and alternate energy developments instead of a war machine!

If anything, you guys are threatening a civil war. You won by a small margin, most tea party candidates retained their seats, and yet your side is planning to govern as if you had a mandate.

 

Not at all, no one seriously thinks that any state will secede. But its a way of showing our frustration with an incompetent and intrusive federal govt, just the thing that the founders were most worried about.

No, it has more to do with the fact that Republicans went apecrap on the rape comments, acting like rape babies are a gift from God and that women's reproductive functions can magically stop impregnation from rape, and that no women die from medical complications due to pregnancy because we're so medically advanced (and that's why abortion should be illegal). State legislators compared us to breeding cows and tried to pass laws that prevent D&C even in the case of ectopic pregnancy or a miscarriage. (If D&C is not performed in these cases, a woman can literally rot from the inside out.)

Abortion and contraception wasn't even on the radar of women in swing states until the Fluke incident, and was solidified with the Akin and Mourdock comments. I don't get how Republicans think they can win votes by talking down to women and pretending they know best for us, even in opposition to established medical facts. We're not stupid.

I certainly won't be party to a civil war to keep you in. Might I suggest some of the Western land regarded by our forefathers as not quite good enough even for Indians and then we can pass a removal act and you can wander off on your own journey of tears to a country worthy of you.
