Not a joke, it's time to cut our loses. southerners fear and loathing of scientific, economic and social progress is holding the country back.

Alas, if only they had the initiative to do more than talk about it.

Yes. . .BUT instead of VUT!

I don't know about you, but my I-Pad is really bad for typos! I guess I'll have to invest in one of those mini-keyboards that attached to it to limit this kind of typos!

    Sorry!

that's what i was saying, plus i like how it feels to say, "but vut"

What does this even mean? Do you honestly think that if a US state dissolved its ties with the US Federal government that all of sudden that state would cease to exist or function? People can survive and prosper without the centralized nanny-state regulating or subsidizing everything they do, you know. So you can crack wise about state and local sovereignty, but they form the basis of our Federalist system of government and if you don't believe me you can read the Ninth and Tenth Amendments. Stop being so petrified of freedom and communitarian government. The glue of society is not the blasted criminals in Washington DC. If anything, they are a serious impediment to human advancement.

No, "this" was not "decided" in 1865. States rights did not die then; they were suppressed, violently, but they were not dissolved. The Ninth and Tenth Amendments clearly assert the rights and powers of localities, states, and individuals. Those Amendments are still there, despite Lincoln's tyranny.

If you really believed that, then you would support legislation to that effect in Washington DC. If "liberals" really believe their progressive model is superior, then they can devolve the power to the states and let free people decide for themselves which government is best. Of course, you would never allow that decentralization of power because progressives crave power and money above everything else.

Yes, I would agree. The state legislature must decide that.

I think this is already happening to some extent. People are moving away from places like California and Illinois to do business in places like Texas. I want a residence in the south someday, maybe Kentucky or Tennessee.

The only people who would be willing to kill southern Americans for seceding from "the union" are progressive nut-jobs, and everyone knows that progressives are beta-males who cannot fight, so I think the south would be just fine.

You act like the south as a whole is some kind of parasite on the north but that is just delusional. You cannot use net tax movement as the only indicator of what they contribute to our "collective" good. For instance, our military has many people from the south. You ready to give them up, too?

Like South Dakota. I don't think they're talking about secession here, but that's good - they're a bunch of corn and soy farmers who are very much dependent on "farm bills" to subsidise these lazy old dudes, and so by extension the entire state. They would have to do some major retooling to survive independently, and I expect this is true of most states in the union.

No, we are not "giving" California to Mexico. California is a strategically important piece of land with tons of natural resources and human capital. They should remain as a US state if that is what they want.

No one has yet to mention the fact that Louisana also has one of the largest ports in America. If the Fed was bounced out, it would have to clear the Navy out. That would open even more shipping opportunities. Just sayin'....................................

I think the Dakotas might be the only states that could survive without the hand outs they have been getting.
There is less than a million people in each, they have some oil, and tons of open land to grow their own food.
You could live off the grid in the Dakota's pretty easy...most of the population already is.

Trouble is, is living in the Dakota's really 'living'?

Why does it seem the only war liberals want to fight is against their own countrymen?
