I thought threatening to shut down the gov't was compared with "terrorism", or "arson", or "kidnapping", or "holding hostages"?

Does this mean that Obama is everything that the progressives were accusing the Republicans and Tea Party of being?

The House keeps submitting spending budget bills and Reid and Obama keep threatening to shut down the gov't.

So, what do the voters do to such dangerous radicals like Obama and Reid? Well, Obama is president, so impeachment (after a mid-term election?) is the only possibility short of the military deposing him, if he keeps the gov't shut down for too long. Reid? He can be voted out of office or simply taken out of power by voters putting the GOP in control of the Senate. So, we may have to endure a shut down federal gov't until January 2014 unless Obama releases the American hostages.

Obama and Reid remind me of Iranian mullahs.

It looks to me like the Republicans in the house want to shut down the government by insisting that an act, passed by congress, be rescinded.

Their attitude makes me ask, why don't they want Americans to have access to affordable health care? If the ACA is so flawed what's their fix? Elimination is not repair.

let's ask a top Republican who will be responsible for a shutdown, shall we? Republican Senator: GOP Will “Fold Like Hotcakes” if Government is Shutdown Over Obamacare
    September 28, 2013 By Allen

You know it’s a sad day for the Republican party when fellow Republicans, who on many issues are very right-wing, are calling out other Republicans for being too radical. But that’s essentially what Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn did when he said that the GOP will “fold like hotcakes” following a government shutdown.

Speaking with reporters, Coburn said, “The only time you shut down the government is when you shut it down and refuse to open it until you accomplish what you want. But we’ll fold like hotcakes. You do not take a hostage you are not going to for sure shoot. And we will not for sure shoot this hostage.”

First of all, he basically admits that the GOP is trying to cowardly take Obamacare (and as a result, our nation) hostage. As I said last week, we’ve watched the Republican party transform from an actual political party to nothing more than domestic terrorists.

Secondly, he’s absolutely right. It’s something I’ve said countless times over the last few weeks. Unless Republicans are willing to go 3+ years without our government being funded (the time Obama has left in office) or even a full year (next year’s elections), then this whole spectacle is just that—a spectacle.

The backlash that will ignite following a government shutdown will be aimed directly at Republicans, and eventually they’ll do exactly as Senator Coburn said—-”fold like hotcakes.”

It’s just stunning how there are millions of Americans who simply don’t get this. It’s even more terrifying that there are actually elected officials who are willing to play partisan politics with the lives of millions of Americans just so they can claim on their next campaign commercial, “I shutdown the government because I oppose Obamacare that much.”

And that’s really what all of this equates to. It’s a group of right-wing radical tea party-backed Republicans pandering to the neanderthals within their party. The people who are so grossly misinformed about even the simplest of facts that you can’t even call them competent human beings.

Because at the end of the day, Senator Coburn knows the truth—Republicans can’t win this. They’re not going to shutdown the government for weeks and months on end and President Obama is in no way going to sign off on a bill which defunds his landmark health care law.

The keyword in that last sentence is “law.” This isn’t a bill up for debate—the debate is over. The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land. Republicans are simply using these desperate tactics as a means of last resort to try to delay the inevitable.

Because once again, like Senator Coburn said, when all is said and done the GOP will “fold like hotcakes,” Obamacare will be funded and it will continue to be the law of the land.

And at the end of the day, these tea party-backed Republicans will have ended up accomplishing nothing — except putting the lives of millions of Americans at risk to simply pander to their far right-wing primary voters for their next campaign ad.

I don't want to give you free access at my expense.

Obamacare is hurting more people than it helps.

The title of this thread is a bit disingenuous isn't it?

The republicans are not negotiating. They are trying to hold the President's landmark legislation hostage. It's the tactics of petty children who are still sore about losing.

If the American people wanted Obamacare repealed so bad they wouldn't have reelected President Obama. Period. Every single poll taken shows that the American people are not willing to shut down the government over Obamacare.

The republicans are shooting themselves in the foot here and its (*)(*)(*)(*)ing pathetic to watch. Obamacare is the law of the land. It's time to get the (*)(*)(*)(*) over it.

    - - - Updated - - -

And what expense would that be exactly?

The GOP seems to have this ridiculous idea that everyone who enrolls in the healthcare exchanges will get their healthcare for free and that the conservatives will be paying for all these free loaders directly out of their pocket.

The Dems think America's young people and lower wage-earning working class are going to give up the latest electronic gadgets or family entertainment in order to afford payments for health insurance.

Without participation by these currently uninsured folks, Obamacare fails. Guess the question is how large the IRS penalty will have to be to convince these formerly free citizens that its now mandatory to buy health insurance?

Yet libs accuse cons of being out of touch with reality. AFTER you've sold out our freedom.

Republicans are doing exactly what we elected them to do... stop Obamas ridiculous spending. if Repubs get blamed for shutting down the govt, only people who hate us already will care. Their voting base will still be intact. Not a bad outcome. Esp compared to the disaster waiting to happen, Obamacare.

So because democrats don't want to negotiate or compromise on anything a government shut down.is somehow the fault of republicans? That's a new level of moronic right there. If the government shuts down it isn't due to one party, it takes both. Only a partisan idiot would think otherwise.

The democrats aren't willing to negotiate or compromise on the Affordable Care Act. That doesn't equal "anything".

The GOP would rather bang their broken record against the wall then move on and try to come up with a real compromise that doesn't have anything to do with Obamacare.

Most of the spending in the ACA is mandatory, so "defunding" wouldn't actually work.
Back in the 90's, the congress had already passed a number of spending bills, so the "shutdown" was relatively minor.
There have been no spending bills passed. Government spending ends on Tuesday, no paychecks, no benefits, no payments to contractors, you trigger a recession if you do this. The GOP is going to fold, the question is how much damage will they do before they fold.
All the Democrats need is a handful of house republicans to cave, and they already know who that's going to be.

This is a huge gift from the Teaparty to the progressive wing of the Democratic party, fundraising has been huge.
This could pretty much eliminate the "off election" advantage that the GOP was expecting in 2014.
    Nice work GOP....

I love how the Edit/Unnecessary/Baiting conservatives are projecting this onto Obama when it is in fact the Republican lawmakers who are threatening the shutdown.

It's more on the republicans bro. Obamacare was voted into law. Republican lawmakers are mad they don't have the power to repeal it, so they are using what little power they have to threaten the doomsday scenario.

Saying this is the fault of the democrats would be like saying that a negotiator is to blame for not convincing terrorists to refrain from using a nuke before it kills everyone. The terrorists created the situation - not the negotiator.

The DNC has a adopted a my way ot the highway kind of attitude. They're obstructing just as much as republicans if not more. You may not like what they're doing but at least the GOP is willing to play ball on other issues. What are the democrats in charge doing, crying because they may not get everything exactly as they want it?

Again, the only thing the GOP aren't willing to negotiate on is healthcare. Everything else is free game. The DNC aren't willing to negotiate on anything.
    hey want it their way.

Really? Care to provide a link that the DNC is unwilling to negotiate on anything else?

Hmm, let's see here. More people? Check. Crowded doctors? Check. Lesser hours? Check. Have I made it clear why Obamacare's a failure yet? Dems want to say that it's not Obamacare's fault. IMO, the best you can say is that it hasn't hurt or helped. If that's the best you can say, that proves to the law's "ineffectiveness", as the president boasted that somehow this would create jobs ROFL.

Don't take my word for it, look at Britain, Japan, etc. Look at how underpaid their doctors are.

You might be able to create a synergetic HC system in states or provinces. But an entire country is a different end game.

Not only does it not work as well as the idealistic liberal would hope, but it is the first time in this country that our nation has been subjugated as subjects at the hands of a government. The Founders would never consider a bill like Obamacare, ever. It would have morally disgusted them just as King George did the same things.
