Off topic since we are talking gay marriage, not homosexual sex.

It's possible that gay marriage can be detrimental to children raised in such situations.
Here's the result of one recent study done:

The project, known as the New Family Structures Study, was sponsored, to the tune of nearly $800,000, by two socially conservative funders: the Witherspoon Institute and the Bradley Foundation. In his journal article, Regnerus says it “clearly reveals that children appear most apt to succeed well as adults—on multiple counts and across a variety of domains—when they spend their entire childhood with their married mother and father.” In Slate, he notes, “On 25 of 40 different outcomes evaluated, the children of women who’ve had same-sex relationships fare quite differently than those in stable, biologically-intact mom-and-pop families, displaying numbers more comparable to those from heterosexual stepfamilies and single parents.

    http://www.slate.com/articles/healt..._parenthood_bad_or_is_gay_marriage_good_.html

Not the author of the slate article didn't simply accept the results of the study, but the stats are stats and he probably didn't want to accept the obvious.

By common sense, it always better to have two opposite sex parents raising children.
If only because it's a more fair and balanced approach.

If so, gay marriage is a big NO!

The government should not be placing a seal of approval on motherless or fatherless households
for children. It's just not fair to the children or in their best interest.

Huh? I'm guessing Pacquiao is worth alot more than you are.

By the way they had to carry Bradley out in a wheelchair after the fight with two busted feet.
The so-called winner couldn't even jump out of the way without hurting himself.

    Hi,

I'm relatively new to this forum and I'm definitely new to this thread, so bear with me. I'm a neuroscience, cognitive science, anthropology and psychology student and I can assure any non-believers that you DO NOT choose your sexuality. The various chemicals that are released after a person sees somebody attractive, is NOT something that humans can control as the various neurons and pathways that are all connected together in the brain were not designed to be messed around with to fit what society deems as "normal". Now, the only reason why people are against homosexuality is because the world has taken note from religion, so therefore, following religions idea that homosexuality is wrong, has created a society that portrays homosexuality as wrong. Now, when you have grown up in a world, being told and taught that something is wrong, you are not going to ever see that it is right because it has been ingrained into your mind that what you have taught is the truth. Now, this is cognitive thinking, but one cognitive thought that society is yet to throw off, which is a shame because very bluntly, people are being denied rights because of something they didn't choose. In a world where homosexuals are still abused and bullied (ect) Do people seriously, and genuinely think that a person would CHOOSE to open themselves up to that sort of emotional distress and sometimes, torture? No.
Now, this post isn't here to change anybody's mind, but it does ask that people have a bit of empathy and put yourselves into the shoes of somebody who has to face prejudice solely because of what their sexuality, gender, religion or race is. Would you like it? No, you wouldn't. Don't throw the words of the Bible (ect) around as a defense because the Bible says a lot of things that society has very, conveniently, taken a blind eye to (I've also studied theology, so please could people refrain from calling me uneducated)

Anyway, I'm going to wrap this up.

If you're going to respond to this, could you please keep it intelligent. Bigotry will be ignored.

    Thank you.
    CK

This study was highly condemned by peer review as it related to children raised by same-gender couples. To summarize the peer review the study mixed "apples and oranges" and didn't focus on couples raising children. For example, in this study the survey asks if the person's biological mother or father ever engaged in a homosexual relationship before the person turned 18. In many cases this occured while the parent was STILL married to the other biological parent! It also includes data on single parents which has nothing to do with comparing couples in a committed relationship.

Of course the social-conservatives of the "Christain Right" don't care that the study has failed based upon peer review and the "results" of this study are widely distributed but the study was still a failure as far as comparing children raised by same-gender couple and opposite-gender couples. It did not effectively address that issue at all.

First of all as a staff member let me welcome you to Political Forum. I hope that you enjoy the discussions.

As a regular member I will say that the criteria that "Bigorty will be ignored" is rather limiting because the opposition to same-gender marriage is overwhelmingly based upon religious intolerance and bigotry. The title of the thread itself reflects this religious intolerance and bigotry.

Sadly anyone that supports the Constitutional Rights of equal protection under the law and the First Amendment's protections that allow all individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs, to exercise their personal Religious beliefs has to deal with the religious intolerance and bigotry of those Christians that oppose same-gender marriage. By analogy it would be like trying to overcome racism but refusing to address statements made by racist.

The entire "battle" of equal protection under the law for same-gender marriage is all about overcoming religious intolerance and bigotry and it always has been. That's just the way it is.

It is identical to overcoming previous religious intolerance and bigotry where many "Christians" cited the following from the Bible as a grounds for banning interracial marriage:

    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+19:19&version=ESV

Religion is inherently bigoted and intolerant of other beliefs. It if wasn't then it would not exist at all.

Hi CaptainKasko and welcome to the forum. I agree with you. Why would anyone in their right mind choose to be part of a group that is maligned, mistreated, hated, despised and made fun of? I didn't choose to be heterosexual, and I'm sure that those here contending that homosexuality is a choice didn't choose to be heterosexual either. Using the Bible to back their hatred is really ignorant.

    Hello Shiva_TD & Mertex,

Thank you for the warm welcome and the pleasant replies, It's nice knowing that there are still people about on this thread who aren't bigoted.
I completely agree with the point about religion practically being based on and advocating bigotry, there seems to be more *interpreted* hatred than words of kindness thrown about these days because of religion.
I put the word "interpreted" between two asterisks because that is what modern day religions and their various offshoots rely on nowadays - interpretation. The Bible, for example, was apparently written/documented over 2,000 years ago when the English language was nonexistent, so the words translated in the Bible may not mean the same things as they do today, and that includes ancient terminology.
Jesus Christ spoke the language of Aramaic, which is now a lost language, and so this almost certainly proves my point that what one could interpret as hatred and wrathful commandments, could have probably have been intended as a rule, or a social guideline implemented at the time.
    A few examples:

The book of Leviticus (the book in which most of these anti-gay and, well, pretty much anti-everything/everyone quotes are "extracted" from) was a book written as a guideline book (not a rule book, but a guideline to holiness) for Israeli priests and monks, and even more so for the laity (people such as nuns and lay brothers) which condemns childbirth (because it is deemed as uncleanliness and uncleanliness is not "holiness"), tattoos, polyester clothing (and the mixing or two different fabrics), and the consumption of shellfish.
So, why should these "Christians" adhere to the ""You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22) rule, but not the others?

My second example is a bit of a simple one which, again, backs up my statement of (mis)interpretation.
As children, we were all taught the sweet and lovely nativity story in which Mary, becomes the mother of Jesus Christ, through a virgin birth. Now, unfortunately, because of the different terminologies, the virgin birth as it has been portrayed in modern times (that Mary was an actual virgin when she became a mother, thus implying that Jesus magically appeared inside of Mary), is another mis-translation, and doing a bit of history will prove this. Also, Mary has been said to have remained a virgin for the rest of her life, which contradicts the earliest scriptures of the Bible which states that Mary and Joseph had, at least, four sons together. Now, this makes more sense because Mary and Joseph were Jewish people and it is part of the Jewish religion to "go forth and multiply" so why would this otherwise, ordinary married young couple, ignore that?

I am not an Athiest, and despite what I have just written, I do hold a respect for all religion and believe the age-old "live and let live" and the only reason that I have written what I have, which discounts much of what these Christians believe, is because if they want to spew hatred in the name of their Lord but not know the true and historical origins of their holy texts, then I guess somebody has to return the favour and deliver them a little helping of humble education.

Thanks for reading and thanks again for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to like it here.

    CK.

Possibly, but if you believe in evolution theory that is taught in US public schools
normal would be a man attracted to a woman or visa-versa. Normal is what propagates over
the long-term as in survival of the fittest.

Gay marriage has no future based on evolution theory even if Obama thinks
he evolved on the issue. It's a man-made concept that is illogical
    also.

One should consider the children of gay parents and their rights to be raised in an
optimal situation with parents of the opposite sex. Both God and evolution theory are against same-sex parents. Sadly, gay supporters usually ignore this fact and the children.

Evolution is against same gender relationships being able to procreate, but parenting is different. Wolves have nurtured non-wolves. Cats have raised pups. Nature provides all creatures with nurturing characteristics.

Where there is love there is family.

    You are so right!
I would only add: And some dogs and cats kill some of their off springs, or reject them so they would die, unless another (either human or another dog or cat) adopt them and keep them alive long enough for them to fend for themselves.

Roughly 30% of same-sex [gender] couples are raising children and they provide the same nurture and love in raising those children as any opposite-sex [gender] couple. These same-gender couples deserve the identical treatment under the law as opposite-gender couples.

100% of same-gender couples merge their financial income, assets, libilities and pay taxes identically to opposite-gender couples and they deserve the identical treatment under the law as opposite-gender couples.

The legal institution of "marriage" is far more related to the financial situation of a couple than it is to raising children as virtually all government benefits relate to taxation and financial matters. There is literally no difference between same-gender and opposite-gender couples related to the financial partnership they create. For the few issues related to child-rearing the simply fact that such a large percentage of same-gender couples are raising children also demand equal protection under the laws of the United States.

This has absolutely nothing to do with religious beliefs and everything to do with equal protection under the law for couples that are in literally the identical situation sharing identical responsibilities. Religious intolerance that violates the US Constitution's protected Rights of the Individual has no place in American.

That's only true if you believe that homosexuals are normal people.

    I don't.

Homosexuals have chosen an abnormal lifestyle and it is wrong to impose their flaws on young children.

But the danger is expressed in the church scandals where the very priesthood once created in the name of the love and focused on the plight of the widow and the orphan became a gathering place for the wolves of homosexuals snow so entrenched after thousands of years that the least safest place for these poor souls is exactly the place publicly promoted as a sanctuary.

Today, there is no family for half of the nations children who are fatherless, their unmarried mothers living on Welfare and every abuse possible inflicted on that next generation because of sexual promiscuity and its encouragement by the Homosexual community.

They are suffering from a mental disorientation called the Oedipus Complex.

We can see this clearly in their drive to force their fathers to "swallow" (Horney/Fromm) the direct face to face outing by their sons who stand behind the mother as he and she acknowledge the bed room sex with other men and condone it.

By such behaviors they psychologically "kill" the father no matter what his pretense to the contrary.

    Point blank:

We are ALL human beings. We are now in the 21st century, surely the concept of ALL human beings, regardless of sexuality, gender, race and/or religion, being treated equally and fairly is not too much of a difficult one to grasp, is it?

You can't change somebody's sexuality so denying their rights to marry isn't going to make any difference to this generation or the ones after. Homosexuality is there whether society likes it or not, this is not a debate on whether it is an evolutionary error or whatever, this is a discussion on the rights to marry. Surely society isn't going to drag out the age of discrimination for another few decades, are they?

Really? Are they providing equal outcomes to those children?
The answer is no, certainly it's never been proven.

Isn't gay parenting unfair and unbalanced?

Common sense dictates the children would be missing a positive role model of the opposite sex
    at the very least.

But regardless, the Bible and religious teachings are very clear, gar marriage offends God!

In case you feel that something is wrong in the United States today, you aren't crazy.
Obama has sent the United States into a decline never before seen in it's history. More than 500K college graduates entered the job market in May and less than 69K new private sector jobs were available for them. You do the math!

"Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together." (Deut 22:11). Apparently, mixing fabrics also offends God too.

Portions of the bible should be examined in their entirety, their timeframe and in context where possible.

    Leviticus 19:19

    19 “ ‘Keep my decrees.

“ ‘Do not mate different kinds of animals.
“ ‘Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
“ ‘Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

From an agricultural perspective, when you intermingle species of animals to make hybrids like horse + donkey = mule. a mule is a hybrid that cannot reproduce - mules are sterile. Once a mule is mixed you cannot unmix the genetic code, nor can it reproduce after itself. Couples of the same sex are likewise sterile.

God is stating we shouldn't mix that what he created as separate to benefit or protect us.

Linen was worn by the priests. Ancient healing secrets revealed in the Holy Scriptures instruct that this fabric is considered Holy attire and part of the sanctification path. Wool was common cloth so why would you mix superior garment with inferior anyhow? That would be like mixing spring water with street gutter water.

The measurement of linen fabric measures 5,000 signature frequencies. How do other fabrics compare? Plant fibers like cotton and hemp are not a healing fiber when measuring its signature energy output. Standard bleached and colored cotton measures 40 units of energy. The good news is that Organic unbleached cotton measures 100 units of energy which is a ‘normal’ but not a healing fiber. The silk fabric measures 10 units of energy which would fail to support health in the human body. Could it be a low number because of its origin? Silk is produced from an ‘unclean’ insect. Could silk be also use of so many chemicals that it is an unhealthy fabric. Rayon measures at 15 signature frequency. Polyester, acrylic, spandex, lycra, viscose and nylon measure zero
and do not reflect light. Pure wool measures 5000 units of energy. For any individual desiring to be well the best recommendation from the instructions of the Holy Scriptures is to wear linen.

While not completely accurate (e.g. same-gender couples can reproduce through alternative methods such as sperm donors for lesbians or surrogate mothers for gays) the analogy is rather good.

A mule, while unable to reproduce, is an animal that has atributes that are generally superior to both a horse and a donkey. Gays and lesbians also have attributes that are generally superior to heterosexuals. Many "Christians" will deny this of course because they want to believe they are superior in all regards but in fact they are not. Gays and lesbians are far less likely to have bigoted sexual attitudes and are far more likely to support equality for all Americans as opposed to advocating discrimination. The entire same-sex [gender] issue pits those that seek equality against those the seek to impose discrimination which denies equality so the lines are clearly drawn of "right v wrong" when it comes to the Rights of the Individual to form personal partnerships between consenting adults under the law. In this battle over marriage the gays and lesbians are obviously superior to the "Christians" tha oppose equality.

"GAY marriage" is by definition discriminatory. Special treatment for gays because they are so special. Hate crime legislation giving special treatment to gays. Special treatment for gays when it comes to discrimination laws. No, gays are all about special treatment for gays.
