Marlowe, the relationships with the Nazis goes a little beyond a simple meeting between el Husseini and Hitler. The Muslims in the Balkans, Turkey and Crimea always had an affinity to the German/Prussian war machine. Hey the Germans were not called Huns for nothing?

Of course there were people in other nations that sympathized with the Nazis as well, and there were even nations where almost everyone sympathized with them... such as Croatia. Anyway I don't know how the Arabs stood, so I'll have to take your word for it for now. Here's a few videos of interest:

Russia has more problems than we have. For one, it doesn't have to cope with a U.S. that doesn't like competition and wants to rip it apart.

If Putin wants a Nobel Prize he will just take one and walk off with it, like he did the Superbowl Ring. ;)

I can't think of anybody else who deserves it more at the moment.

In case you havent noticed, Syria is in a state of full scale war. And it was the US Congress who stopped a US strategic strike on Assads chemical weapon capeabilities. Not Putin. Putin has taken what would have been a quick removal of Assad from power and turned it into a civil war that is lasting for years.

I dont know what Gulag you are talking about but you cant serously suggest that its about the same in Russia and the US...., Gays are not allowed to hold hand in the street! that's insane, two singers were ARRESTED for making fun of Putin! I understand the importance of being fair to both sides but really.....the freedom in the US is taken to the extreme if you ask me.

    For Dixie . (wink)

President Obama has asked Congress to delay its vote on authorizing military force in "Syria"http://www.democracynow.org/topics/syria while the United States weighs a potential diplomatic breakthrough with Russia. In a national address from the White House Tuesday night, Obama said the United States will explore Russia’s proposal to place Syria’s chemical weapons under international control.

President Obama: "It’s too early to tell whether this offer will succeed, and any agreement must verify that the Assad regime keeps its commitments. But this initiative has the potential to remove the threat of chemical weapons without the use of force, particularly because Russia is one of Assad’s strongest allies. I have therefore asked the leaders of Congress to postpone a vote to authorize the use of force while we pursue this diplomatic path."

... If not for Putin the chances are Obama + co. having painted themselves in a corner would've bombed Syria - Gun-Ho style to preserve USA's "credibility " ??????

The gulag I refer to is Guantanamo bay, where untried innocents languish for their entire lives behind bars and get tortured.

The CIA also operate a network of black prisons around the world and torture people, sometimes to death, on Obama's executive authority.

I agree the sentencing for P(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) Riot was WAY over the top. Like I said, Russia does have human rights issues. But Putin didn't issue the sentence, and it was for disrespecting the cathedral, not Putin. We are comparing heads of state. And at least they got trials. Conversely, Obama does order the innocents detained without trial.

If you want to join my argument about Putin vs. Obama please itemize items specifically relating to Putin as I have done for Obama.

Well, Putin certainly helped Obama save face. Obama wanted to avoid being told by Congress that he didnt have authorization for the use of force.

It might be wise to see if the chemical weapon eradication program is actually carried out in Syria. Nominating Putin at a time when the program is taking its first baby steps is (almost) as bad as nominating Obama before he had done anything at all.

Well, the "gay propaganda" law is a perfect one for starters. Yes, he's not a legislator, but like our system, he can veto laws just like our president can.

Clearly, he's not against oppressing gay people.

This link gives a list of abuses: http://www.dailyartisan.com/news/putins-shocking-abuses-of-power/

This link mentions laws that Putin has supported against the freedom of assembly: http://www.economist.com/node/21559342

And then there is of course the case of Sergei Magnitsky. His death was the result of corruption in the upper levels of the Russian government. Clearly, Putin was supportive of the coverup in the way that his government reacted to the situation.

If you think the American government is cronyist, you should read more about how the Russian mafia and corporate oligarchs control things there.

It is the guano heads of Congress and the rest of the regime that are causing the war against Syria and making it a long drawn out war of attrition. The US regime is in cahoots with the Israelis, Saudis, Qatar & Kuwaite to destroy Syria.

If the USA told those gangs of thugs to stop their war on Syria, the war would be over very soon.

It was the USA that created the poison gas issue in the first place with that red line thing that was really a green light to the terrorists to use it. And President Putin and other men in love with Truth, Mercy, Faith and Peace stopped our rotten liar excuse to slaughter & maim more millions of people for democracy:

Putin took a way our liar colin powell excuse to bomb more millions of people, and he shot down 2 US missiles on their way to bomb Syria.
Years before that the Russians stopped our nice "cleansing" operation against South Ossetia and Abkhazi.
If the Russians had not stopped the US/Israeli Georogia attack on South Ossetia, guess who the USA would have nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
This is the kind of guy that the pseudo-men in Congress and the rest of the regime love, probably because he's much like them.
Who is more peace loving? The "American" people who have eagerly marched off to an un-ending stream unjust wars of aggression over and over for 200 years while yapping about their precious "Freedom".........freedom to maim and kill for 200 years?

Do you remember the US propaganda against Germany? They were accused of loving war for less than 70 years and we fire bombed almost every city in Germany and then starved millions of the survivors to death AFTER they surrendered.

I guess the American people want to have something similar happen here so that they can force Jesus to come save them from their lies, cruetly, hypocrisy and treachery against that which "nature's God" Loves, yes?

It is Cold in Moscow, but not nearly as cold as the infinite coldness in the hearts of many US politicians and officials.

Such a terrible waste and shame that America chose to worship war and ugliness.
Too bad we didn't choose to follow the national anthem of Belarussia:

Too bad we refused to be the Beautiful People that the Chinese once thought we were and so named America:

I guess it tends to be most "peaceful" in Belarus when dissenters are kept quiet.

Putin would hit two birds in one stone,
first preserving Russian interest in Syria,at Tartus,
and hopefully the coveted peace price.

While I would agree that America should spend less time bothering other countries and fix its own problems, I reserve the right to point out the flaws of other nations when they are being held up as an ideal.
