Only one problem with your theory. In the private sector incompetent managers get fired. In government they get promoted.

As is proving out with Joe's Refusal to fire or demote Incompetent
Military leaders. Not one firing of any Military in charge of commanding
has taken place.EXCEPT for outspoken Lt.Colonel Matthew Lohmeier.
Who dared to make a podcast review critical of how this new Military
is behaving.Meaning highly political. He cited Critical Race Theory
    being used to Indoctrinate our Troops.He was summarily canned { Fired }
for addressing this New Woke system overtaking our men and women
    in uniform.

I'm good with that, if it's proportional ... the U.S. population has almost doubled in size since 1960. 8)

Your premise is that government programs are designed to fix problems that do not exist.

IN tha annals of history, no one is suggesting that such hasn't happened. I wouldn't go as far as yuo are in the assumption that all, or even most, government programs fall into that category. IN my view, to make that assumption is cynical. A government program doesn't have to make a profit and is thus likely to continue longer (if it's a bad program ) than if it were a company which had to make a profit from a bad product. However, corporations who control media can manufacture consent and profit therefrom, products bad or not, such as That particular Fox Pox called Donald Trump.

There are problems of your very complaint on both sides of the issue.

The population of the U.S. isn't the issue. Sorry. Incompetence and corruption is the problem. A smaller government can manage anything better that what we have today. The federal government has to focus on 4 basic activities, none of which they do competently today. They are defend the country, deal and treat with other countries, maintain a stable currency and resolve interstate disputes. Everything else belongs somewhere other than federal government. They need to combine this basic focus while defending freedom. We could cut 70% of federal government and have a better one in every way.

Of course some of us view those things as negative and bad for the nation. Some them are just hopes for the future. The one thing the administration did that I liked was to destroy the car bomb in Kabul with a drone. It didn't make up for the rest of the retreat but it did save lives.

Government can certainly force business to lay everything bare and punish them for anything they want.

Business has no ability to do that to government.

    Government IS force.

That is why government is the problem.

I get it.An Infrastructure bill that barely scratches infrastructure issues.
Plus if passed will literally bankrupt future generations saddled with
    catastrophic Unnecessary Government DEBT.
This Country was virtually built on rugged individualism and
a work ethic. All that was toppled with the Pandemic exercise.
People are slowly waking up as to why a Pandemic in the first place.
Because as Jane Fonda blurbed out ...
" Covid is God's Gift to the Left "
Making way for Authoritarian governance by ballbusting Blue State
Governors hellbent on disrupting Americana.Making way for a different
America.Where Lockdowns are deemed essential.Masks are required.
Even little school age kids are not exempt.Plus encouraging workers to
forgo work and stay at home and collect stimulus and unemployment.
That can only lead to a future Dystopian nightmare.Of the Franz Kafka
order.Americans have been forced into this position. Not by Priests,Rabbis
or men of enlightenment. But by simpleton Political toady's and those seeking
power for the sake pf power. As if some Arcade game gone rogue.

Of course it did. It destroyed a car bomb that was about to be driven to the airport crown and detonated. Common sense.

Common sense or gullibility? Evidently some need no proof just to believe everything government tells them.

Doesn't need to be proportional. The feds job isn't micromanaging the country.

The government doesn't sell auto insurance.

I disagree with the premise. A smaller government can manage a smaller country, but there is no evidence a tiny government can manage a country as large as America. No one is suggesting there isn't room for regulatory reform, efficiency improvements in government, but this idea that the almost utopian tiny government that libertarians and conservatives lust for is just fantasy. America is a huge country, it's problems are complex, and this idea that free enterprise is the panacea for all society ills isn't a valid premise. History tells us that this isn't so. This history of capitalism is fraught with as much corruption as anyone can attribute to government. Some businesses have to be big, such as auto industries, aircraft manufacturing, oil refinery engineers and construction, military industrial, etc. It takes a big government to tackle the complexities of a vast society like that of America.

The government does a lot more than 'defend the country, deal with and treat other countries, maintain a stable currency and resolve interstate disputes.

The list of things the government does, that list would fill a book and most of the items on that list are actually needed. Not all of them, of course, and no one is suggesting there isn't redundancy, or unneeded departments, and no one is suggesting there isn't room for considerable improvements, I'm just arguing against the 'tiny government' that conservatives and libertarians fantasize to such a point they cling to the idea almost feverishly, such that they think the only valid activity for congress is to do nothing, which explains precisely why republicans are the do nothing party. They are driven by this false idea.

Yes, corruption is a problem, but like crime, the best that can be done is to put a dent in it. Crime will never vanish completely. The whole concept conservatives are driven by is that 'free enterprise' is the panacea for all society's ills, and thus government is not needed, no where near to the extent it currently exists.

Well, there is no evidence for that premise, it's just, well, almost a utopian idea, not in the purist sense of the word, but it's, well, let's just say it's utopian-esque. In other words, conservatives are not as pragmatic as they claim to be, they are actually, in point of fact, much more ideological in their approach to policy than liberals are. For example, many conservatives oppose the stimulus. Liberals and moderates support it because it is the pragmatic thing to do given how a vast segment of society was harmed financially by the virus. It's their ideology which drives them to oppose it, not the common senseness of it. Democrats and moderates are not doing it out of some ideological view, they are doing it because there is a great need for the government, in such circumstances as a pandemic causes, to act. Frankly, conservatives perplex me. Methinks they have no common sense.

No, that's not why government is the problem. Let's scrutinize your logic, which is terrible, by the way.

    You wrote:

Business has no ability to do that to government.

And a cop can give a citizen a ticket, but the citizen can't give the cop a ticket.

So, what is your problem with the arrangement? I'm sorry, but someone is always above you, and that is life, get over it.

Life is filled with 'being forced'.

You work for someone, you do as the boss says, or you are fired. That's force.

You see a stop sign, and if you don't stop, you get a citation. That's force.

If you don't pay the fine, or challenge it in court, a warrant for your arrest is given. That's force.

So what, you are suggesting anarchy? Is that your solution?

Whatever it is you are alluding to, you should just come out with it, tell us who you really are.
